New Trades Vs New Kings

The Wolves are operating on the assumption that if they can fix things internally their team will perform just fine, which makes some sense.

SO pretty much, the Lakers pose no threat to most of the teams they dealt with today.

The Nuggets-Thomas Bryant trade is kind of a sideways move with Bamba's acquisition. The Lakers obviously pose no threat to Denver.

Lakers and Utah are just 2 teams on polar opposite timelines. N the Wizards are in the east.

Lakers are kind of getting a bunch of hand-me-downs here too when you look at it. These players were all sorta drafted over/replacable.

Russel is no Hand Me Down. He Kills us every time we play him. He hates us for some reason, and now hes on the Lakers "Again"

Why cant we just play Quinta?

We can.. but he's on a two-way deal which means he'd need to be converted to a full contract to play in the playoffs...

Queta's presence here represents even more reason not to overpay to get rid of Holmes, because we have control over Queta n can tender a q/o this summer.

Queta stomped James Wiseman twice in the G-League this year. n Wiseman with his bloated deal still managed to return Saddiq Bey in trade.

If I'm going to grade our deadline, I'm going C-.

The fact Monte didn't feel the pressure to shove all-in and try to keep up with the Jones's is a good thing. PDX has a great word and Monte is very intentional with how he makes moves. If something isn't in his long-term vision he's not going to do it. We were the most active team at the deadline last year and did nothing this year. That suggests there's a blueprint in place and we're not deviating from that plan.

There's also something to be said that the Kings have their best team in probably 18 years and are the 3 seed in the West 54 games into the year. And from all accounts a team that loves playing together and loves playing for Coach Brown only 1 year into the tenure. That's very very good and worth continuing to build on. It feels like Monte and co valued the continuity of the current group over making minor upgrades.

The price tags on some of these role players were down-right foolish. 5 2nd rounders for Crowder?? 4 for J-Rich? I love GPII but FIVE 2nd rounders for him?? 5 for Saddiq Bey?? 3 for Thomas Bryant??? Like jesus christ, we're talking about 8th man+ type role players here. Probably the only 2 trades I'm really bummed on is the Bones for 2 2nds and Plumlee getting dealt for an expiring (no picks??) and then CHA just buying-out Reggie. That's the deal that hurts and really feels like if we offered our expiring package+ a 2nd or 2, we get Plumlee.

What are 2nds really worth though? The Kings have wiped off more 2nd rounders than we can count in the last 5 years or so and even up to last year are mostly $$$ for this franchise.

If a team got rid of Walls contract, then Holmes contract is like paying the water boy.

Any Trade can easily rejuvenate a team to stay on there freakin toes. Weve been real last lately going 5 - 5 against scrubs and losing 3 back to back team games is ridiculous. Trading someone would have sent a message. Especially after all the complaining Brown has been doing about defense and rebounds

Kenny Thomas and Jason Thompson. That's the future for Holmes at this point.

Sir its not desperation. Its trading while a player is hot instead of when he is down. What better time than this year has there ever been to trade Barnes. Hes not that guy, he's already shown that. Sabonis, fox and murray are the reason we are where we are with a shot out to Monk for sparking the bench.
I agree with the idea that Barnes could have been traded especially for someone who fits Kings timeline better , but I also think he had a lot to do with what our record is

Plus Barnes is 30, not 40, and has a game that is probably going to continue to age well.

There have been so many moments this season where HB has gotten a bucket and some FTs right when we needed them.

I like our team. It's crazy that we have the 3rd spot in the west. We need to improve our defence, especially our paint defence, and maybe we could've done that yesterday, but will still watch and enjoy the next game.

And beyond that, the Kings, while certainly are not old, don't have like that next crop of super young players coming up. Murray is going to be 23, Mitchell is going to be 25 next season. This team is essentially nearing the front end of it's prime talent wise. Mike Bibby and Peja were around that age when the Kings made the WCF.

I cant believe mitchelle is 25. He still plays like a rookie to me

Sir we are talking past this season according to many
Lebron is going to be 39. AD is probably going to be injured again. Half the guys they acquired over the last few months are either going to be off their roster/signed to expensive new extensions. Darvin Ham is still going to be their coach. D-Lo will have probably worn out his welcome by then yet again.
We really need to stop letting the Lakers mystique inflate our opinions of them. Getting Vandy was a smart move for them and Beasley is going to help them finally have a consistent outside shooting presence. The rest of it was… fine, maybe?

Laker mystique? They are getting guys for nothing!

You think that they are not going to attract free agents once Lebron is gone to play with ADand russle? Your living in a dream They world sir. They dont need picks or good managEment they are LA. How you think they got lebron? Draft?

And worse case for them is they trade AD for 20 1st. Life aint fair

PDX but we are not asking for Lebron and AD moves. Im asking for Barnes, and mid teer moves to possibly get a upper teir player. How is Moving Barnes Mortgaging the future?
Moving Barnes is just selling our present.

Who do you think Barnes was going to fetch?

You are obsessed with moving a guy who has low-key been a huge part of this run. And the word behind the scenes is he is an invaluable locker room presence, like a coach on the floor type. Moving those guys mid-season can be horrible.

He is also the only guy on the roster with deep playoff experience, and a ring.

Got push back for his “trade Huerter” take so he pivoted to “trade HB”. “Trade Sabonis” on deck for next Wednesday

Barnes was just dreadful to start this season, looked lost and uninspired - his response was to get back on form, and to be the guy that consistently seems to make a clutch shot to get us out of a run or mid-game slump. At any time he might be out there with Fox and Domas plus Huerter or Monk or another guy who on a hot night is the third option. Him and Keegan are sort of just there at times, but they are just there when the other stuff isn't working. And when everything is working sometimes they are just there being wide open for a dagger of a 3.

Move that for what?

it hasn’t worked for them over the last four years. The salary cap exists and these moves the Lakers made have actually made it so they have less money to work with going forward.

Phoenix’s unprotected first-round picks in 2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029, plus swap rights on the Suns’ 2028 first-rounder, along with wings Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and Jae Crowder for a 35 year old player.. That seems legit lol.. Suns just ruined their future with this trade for KD.

Depending on how you count championships before they were in the NBA they have 18 rings, and have been bounced in the playin, first round, and missed the playoffs 3 of 4 years with LeBron. They did win that elusive extra ring in a year nobody could attend a game. Would I take that as a Kings fan? MAYBE. I really think if it was a year fans could attend games and we could have a public parade, I'd trade one championship for missing the playoffs the entirety of the next decade. Lakers are an organization where missing the playoffs or a first round exit is a complete embarrassment on a level most fans can't comprehend.

Oh, and they're currently 2 games out of the final play-in spot in 13th place right now, down 4 with 4 to play.

So you want a trade just so you can say we traded something.. On a 3rd place WC team... Constant trades and screwing with the chemistry is all that would have happened if we swap Barnes for some other rotation player. Why do it? Seriously.. Why?
