New Trades Vs New Kings

I dont think either of those are going to happen.....Kings are gonna to be a few under .500 the remainder and the Lakers *might* be @ .500.

As of today I had us going 12-14 to finish the season. We have a tough road ahead of us. I would be fine with .500 and us finishing at 45-37 and perhaps drawing the 5th or 6th seed so we don't have to play in that play-in bracket for 7-10 teams. Never liked that. I hope we get Memphis in the first round. We seem to play pretty well against them and I could see a 7th game in a series like this.

We have the best road record (15-12) in the western conference which means our players aren't as affected by home or road crowds. We are 1 of 2 teams in the western conference with a winning road record. We have the 10th (yes 10th) best home record (17-12) in the western conference. The home record scares me a bit, because if we have the 2nd-4th seed and play the first two games at home we could get into a hole we cannot crawl out of. So I almost prefer going on the road for the first two playoff games.

We have also the 2nd best conference record in the western conference at 20-12 which shows we can matchup with anyone in the west.

You’ve taken lots of Ls lately. There were even more in this post, but this one just flat out wrong. Teams are tweeting,
Posting, commenting, etc. on the Kings. Teams don’t want the beam lit on their asses.

Lol taken A Lot Of Ls? That sounds cute coming from a Kings Fan. Teams fear us and the beam all of a sudden I get it. I hope your right, but fact is, teams are gunning from
Grizzlies Ja and his "I aint worried about the west" Comment -
Mavs, Adding Kyre,
Suns Adding Durant,
Warriors Being The Defending Champs,
Nuggets with the back to back MVP,
Lakers With Lebron James And Company,
Blazers With Dame Time, I could Go On,
Zion and his crew of over hyped players
Much More Than The Surprise Kings With the Beam - Everyone keeps mentioning being in 3rd without mentioning how close 3rd and 10th place are.

My Takes are not some hyped up craziness. Respect is earned. We are earning it, but we are not all of a sudden contenders because we played a half a season of good basketball. Thats why I feel we should have added pieces instead of acting like we've been there before

We have the third best record in the Western Conference right now, and we've been hovering up there towards the top for quite a while now. I think we have already earned that type of respect, and we did so at some point in 2022. I'm sorry, dude, but claiming that "we don't have that type of respect yet" is one of the most ludicrous, and unbelievably false, claims that one could ever make about the Kings right now.

As @macadocious pointed out, other teams are scared of us. They don't want to play us. They hate the beam. THAT in itself, my "friend", is what you call RESPECT...

You know the spurs and jazz started off as some of the hottest teams in the NBA at start of the season. You think teams started respecting them and thats why they are losing? In your prospective, who in the west is not to be respected? everyone is neck and neck, only a few games away from dropping from 2nd to 10th with one losing streak. We are no more respected than any of the other top 12 teams in the west.

They hate the Beam? Really? A team that hasn't made the playoffs in 16 years is now feared because we have the Beam lol. Where do we get this stuff from I swear. Our Top Guys didnt even get a All Star voting until someone was injured. No bro we dont have nearly as much respect as we should and we wont until we actually make the playoffs

Adding pieces sure, but not at the expense of the players that got us there. This chemistry wasn't built overnight, but it sure can be taken away overnight. Overall talent will lose to a better team, or else the sixers and nets would have owned the last few championships (bubble nonsense aside.)

Teams ARE gunning for us now, and we're not sneaking up on anyone. We're not mentioned among the best because we're the elephant in the room, and they're waiting for us to implode and fall apart. We ARE playoff contenders, just not title contenders (yet.) What you see is who we are - it's not a "hot start" like Utah and SA. The team as currently structured has dismantled a lot of great teams in the NBA. They have to learn how to do it in the last two months of the season and grow from it.

The rest of this year will be a fight to maintain our seeding, and I'm confident that Coach will have this team prepared. I agree that our bench could be a lot better, but I think a team firing on all cylinders in February and March is better than one trying to figure itself out with a bunch of new key pieces.

This franchise certainly isn't acting like it's been there before. In fact, it's building for a long run at the top while others are throwing everything together in a "win now" panic because their stars are on the tail end of their careers. The goal for this team was always the playoffs, and then add supporting pieces in the off-season.

Why? I'd say having the 8th best record in the league, 6th best road record, 7th best points differential and the #1 offense would disagree.

I mean, it would be strange to go from the pit to the pinnacle in a year. I want to see how they perform when defenses really clamp down. I will say that not getting any calls during the regular season will definitely help during playoff time, when the refs tend to swallow their whistles a little more.

I think there are some very generous Ls you've assigned to us there, I get that bad losses happen but so do good/unpredictable wins and I only see you giving us one quality win in this entire thing.

The Suns went from 34-39 in 2019/20 to 51-31 and the western conference finals in 2020/21
They did go 9-0 in the pre-playoff bubble, proving the whole thing to be quite pointless as they failed to advance despite that achievement.

Because you also have to play defense especially on the wings. What we saw Dallas game 2 was encouraging but we need to see more of that.

It will be interesting to see how things go down the stretch. For years the Kings have won some meaningless games at the end of the season that only serve to worsen their lottery odds. For the first time in eons, those games will likely matter. And if bad teams go all in on the tank and good teams (I'm especially eyeing that last game of the regular season against Denver) rest their stars after securing their playoff spot, the Kings could reel off a few extra wins to finish the year.

It's also noteworthy that in most recent years the Kings also made late moves to try to push for the playin or 8 seed and it has almost never worked out. We win meaningless games after being eliminated, but in that weird period between the deadline/break and mathematical elimination we actually just go on a huge suck streak.

It will be interesting to see 1) if we have a suck streak during this period and 2) which teams that made huge moves have suck streaks of their own. There's just zero chance that all these teams behind us win because they are all going to play each other as often as they play us.

Maybe not quite - if we look at the 3-12 teams and see how many games they have remaining against 3-12 squads (including games going as we speak):
Kings - 18
Mavericks - 6
Suns - 13
Clippers - 14
Pelicans - 13
Wolves - 9
Warriors - 14
Thunder - 17
Jazz - 9
Blazers - 13

So we've got the toughest schedule left, at least in those terms. Of course, I didn't count the Lakers, though they might end up being as relevant or more relevant than some other teams by the end.

It's not exactly surprising that we'd have 18 when the median seems to be 13 or 14 because we have so many games in hand.

The Mavericks as the low outlier at 6 and our closest competitor does seem to be pretty directly concerning unless they have a lot of games against Eastern teams remaining (or Denver and Memphis?)

Yeah I think you can look at this a few different ways. It's tough that we have to go vs so many West teams, but it also gives us a shot to make up ground if we find ourselves in a 3-4 game skid at some point. There will be opportunities to gain on teams or put teams away.

Regardless, should be an excellent test and great experience for the guys down the stretch. The more games they get like this 2-game Mavs set, the better.

Mavs tough games I see:

@DEN
PHI
PHX
@NOP
@MEM
MEM
@MEM
GSW
@PHI
SAC
@MIA
LAL (Lakers are probably good fully healthy with their new additions)
@LAL

They do get 3 games vs SA, 2 vs CHA and 2 vs IND . They'll really need to clean those up because they really do have a pretty tough stretch

Wait now that Haliburton is back are those gimmes?

Also 3 with Memphis (2 away) and 2 with PHI definitely offsets the only 6 against the teams behind us in contention pack.

If Fox is playing I think you have to mark the Kings down as favorites at the very least. Buddy must pay.

Mavs were closing in on Minny, mostly on Kyrie's back and Luka dribbled off his foot. 3 pt game right now though and 15 seconds left.

AND AND AND:
THEY BOTH BLEW IT!!! (like directly, each nearly turned the ball over and then Kyrie made a bad entry pass inside even though they needed 3)

I have no idea what the hell that last Mavs possession was lol. Luka and Kyrie passing it back and forth 3 times before Kyrie throws it away. Hell of a comeback from the Kyrie/Luka's, but their supporting cast looked far more like it's supposed to this game.

Not just that, but as the playoffs get close these are the teams we might be playing in the first round. Good to have some experience against them after the trade deadline and see how we match up and where coach needs to modify the game plan.

realizing Luka had to take a few weeks off so this won't likely hold but right now Kyrie seems like the player you want in the clutch and so I just don't know how this is going to end.

Watching it a couple times - Luka is the type to jack up absurd shots in those spots so maybe it's showing respect? Similarly Kyrie had some looks but fumbled it trying to do too much. They obviously had nuts games otherwise with an impressive comeback

3 against Griz, so either Kings are gaining on Griz or Mavs falling behind.

Both Kyrie and Luka were being overly deferential in my opinion. They don’t wanna ruffle any feathers yet and give the impression that they consider themselves to be the “A” option over the other.

Probably best to count Lakers, Memphis and Denver

Largely agree. We need to make the playoffs, and even more, perform there. Winning a series would be awesome, but even stretching a contender would solidify the season to some extent.

West won't get any easier next year. Many teams have improved at the deadline. Some of the teams below us will be adding pieces. We might not enjoy the good fortune of health we have so far enjoyed this year (don't worry fellow fans: I burned sage and sandalwood to avoid any jinx), and other teams might not have it as bad as they had this year. We will need to do well this year, and the next few, to really earn respect.

Case in point: None of the buyout candidates considered us. Oh I understand that we don't have a roster spot, we didn't express interest, and likely everyone knew that we are not looking to create roster spots and add anyone. Doubt if we would have been considered even if the above were not true. While we are in the run for a postseason spot, teams like Suns, Ws, Mavs, Nuggets, and even Clippers and (hate to say it, but Lakers) are stronger contenders for a deep postseason run (not including Pels or Grizz, since they too haven't proved much yet, though clearly more than us). We might be better than some, and might actually beat them in a series. However, till we do so, we won't, nor should, get much respect.
