Aaaaaaaaand your words were spoken a little too soon...Wolves look like they're gonna stretch this series - I would've been surprised if swept

Imagine having Paul and Kawhi on your team and then the rarely play. Gotta be rough as a fan.
All that load management throughout the regular season, and both were still unavailable when it mattered most and the Clips lost in five.
Makes you so weary of emptying the coffers for a superstar. Has it really worked for anyone? The Lakers I guess for AD and the 2020 title. But with how much he's been injured and in and out of the LU, hard to say that's really worked out well for them. Especially if they don't win this year and LeBron is a year closer to being done.
PHX is absolutely on the clock in the next 2 years I'd say to go win while CP3 is still playing at a high level. But hell, who knows, maybe he hits the wall next season? And Bridges/Cam look like they could have been foundational pieces in a post-cp3 team for PHX with the bigger role they've shown in BKN. And while I don't think it's super likely, KD will be 35 next season with a ton of mileage and recent injuries. Not out of the question he hits a wall earlier than expected too or doesn't stay healthy.
-Bulls traded WCJ and 2 protected FRP for Vucevic. I'm not so sure the Magic would even swap WCJ back to them if they wanted to do a reset. Blown up in a big way
-Minny would do a reset yesterday on their deal
-Cavs are very likely still happy with Mitchell, but still, gave up an all-star in Lauri and a bunch of draft capital. They like there guy, but paid a huge price for it.
-LAC probably heavily regrets the PG trade at this point. Shai looks more and more like a top 10 player and they gave up a million FRP to get it done with him
-DAL didn't pay a huge price for Kyrie, but you better believe they already have buyers remorse. Honestly seems unlikely they keep him, given how their season ended.
-Hawks give up 3 FRP and a pick swap for Murray. Also basically give away Huerter to us as a result for a protected FRP back. They're holding tough with BOS so far, but nothing in their season indicates they're ready for a major jump with the Murray acquisition.
-PHI sold Ben Simmons at the absolute right time to get Harden. Probably one of the better superstar trades where the team getting the star clearly got the better deal
-Kings gave up a future (current) all-star in Hali to get one back in Domas, but kept our draft capital. Once you start looking at some of these other trades with similarly talented players... Kings got off pretty damn well.
You start looking through these deals and man... the recent history of emptying the coffers for a star just doesn't really bode all that well.
Makes me think we should just run it back without any huge changes and wait out the West.
.
Just add to the mix. If a clear and obvious opportunity to drastically improve a position presents itself, go for it. Otherwise, remain patient and continue to draft well.
That’s what Geoff Petrie did circa 1998-2002.
After the intial 1998-1999 season when they broke .500 during the short season and gave Utah a run, they signed Bobby Jackson, traded Corliss Williamson for Doug Christie to replace Abdul-Wahad, then made the big move of trading Jason Williams for Mike Bibby. They also drafted Hedo Turkoglu for more punch off the bench.
I could see McNair doing something similar over the next season or two.
This team is much younger and should have a much longer window of opportunity,
Steve Balmer really should've moved the Clippers to Seattle
Their curse will follow them wherever they go.Steve Balmer really should've moved the Clippers to Seattle
In that case, I think the call would be upgraded bench and big depth this off-season on the defensive end.
If there's an option for an upgraded starter, maybe Huerter down the line. Not that I think that will happen necessarily, but he's probably the most likely if they do. I would say Barnes, but I don't see an available 3 better than him. I think they bring him back.
I think a potential big swing this off-season could be moving Davion into the starting LU at the "2" next to Fox. Seeing his defensive breakout this playoffs as well as giving you something on offense is fairly eye-opening. And Huerter is flexible enough you can still get him to his 28 MPG off the bench in a super 6th role.
Kings just stuck in a weird place where you do need to make a change somewhere to improve defensively, but you also really don't want to replace anyone because of how valuable they are offensively. Making Davion a 28-30 MPG player would be a good first step to actually becoming passable on D.
I'd rather not force the Davion at the 2 thing, even though tonight in Game 5 I think that might be the best thing to do. He's obviously more valuable in the playoffs than anything, but if they're going to take a step defensively it would upgrading Huerter or Barnes into defensive wing specialists. Like a Mikal Bridges type starting 2, but of course we all know how expensive those types are.
