do you think fatigue played a part in this?
Who cares? If he were wearing a Sacramento Kings jersey, and played like that in the fourth quarter, the line of people ready to call your post "excuse making" would be out the door. Why should I make an exception for Towns?

because that may be the reason for his poor 4th quarter performance

Maybe it is. But again, if I said the same thing about De'Aaron Fox, people would accuse me of making excuses for him. Would you say that you are making excuses for Towns?

And, alternatively, maybe Towns comes up small in the fourth quarter because he's soft?

not excuses, just trying to view the situation from multiple angles. Let's see how soft he is playing in Minnesota, he may very well be a ghost again or he may show out, two games to prove his worth

Maybe. You seem to want to extend a measure of grace to Karl-Anthony Towns, that I don't think he's earned. That kid's been in the league for eight seasons, now; we've seen his movies.

so players can't change 8 seasons in huh?
On the contrary, not only can he change, he has changed. That's part of the problem: from my point of view, he's changed for the worse. He's become softer, the longer he's been in the league. He continues to move further away from the basket, he continues to become a less effective rim protector. He was someone who was drafted in part on his promise/potential as a dominant big man, and all he seems to want to be is Dominican Ryan Anderson. That wasn't put on him, to change his game in that way: he wanted that. And I don't **** with it.

This is how I remember it as well. Needless to say if he was who they said he was they wouldn't have bankrupted their future for Gobert.

Yo, this cannot be overstated: Minnesota threw their future in the trash to get Gobert because, after seven years, they had finally made peace with the fact that Karl-Anthony Towns ain't that dude, ain't been that dude, and ain't about to be that dude.

what type of big was he at Kentucky?

I don't watch men's college basketball. My statement was based on what people who do said about him, at the time. According to basketball-reference, he only attempted eight threes in his season at Kentucky, and averaged over two blocks a game, so that would suggest that the people who said that had a point.

in what year of his NBA career did he begin to drift away from the basket?

Congratulations to Karl-Anthony Towns for actually getting on the board in the fourth quarter. Hit both (!) of his shots, for 5 (!!!) of his 27 points. One of those being a barely-contested layup in the final minute, after the game was out of reach.

I might be wrong about that dude one of these days, but it ain't gonna be today.

Chris Finch prob getting canned in the off-season. Doesn't really deserve it but Wolves have looked a mess without an identity and theres no other button they can push to sort it out

agitation is not the way to have a conversation mister Citrus
Neither is incessantly asking questions for stuff you can look up yourself. People don't like always doing your research for you when you have a question. Put at least a little effort in on your end first to see if you can be a little more self-sufficient and less like a toddler completely reliant on others.

And he's not agitated. If he was agitated, you would know it.

the questions are necessary to figure out the thinking behind mister Citrus' thinking. That's not something I can garner from an internet search engine. I need to ask the individual himself to garner the information. Once again you have a tendency to come in and make snark comments when you can simply read them and move on.

The question wasn't necessary. Look at his shot charts. Check his shooting stats. Do some research on your own instead of peppering everyone with questions for once. It's like you are a freaking chatbot sometimes - unable to look up anything on your own.

I found KATs shot charts with a simple google search. Try it yourself if you are that interested in seeing how his shooting patterns have changed over the years. We aren't your personal librarians or researchers.

And my last comment wasn't snarky. This one is a bit more snarky. It's kind of a sliding scale.

I am not an expert on KAT - he was drafted in 2015. I think that is more or less when the transition to modern bigs playing small began (first year Dubs won).

Even in 2018 when we drafted Bagles, the Suns went Ayton over Luka, JJJ was there and Bamba was supposed to be a stud, we were going to see a resurgence of traditional big men. Arguably the only one to achieve individual success in this class is the only one with a reputation for playing defense. He will probably be a DPOY candidate for the next decade if he stays healthy.

We drafted WCS in this class. Another guy that all we wanted was to be a defensive complement to DMC and instead he wants to be an offensive superstar.

People expect bigs to play defense. If they don't do that they are no longer lottery picks when it used to be "oh look giant guy, I'll gamble the 5th pick on him".

Well, they might still be lottery picks, but they're definitely not Top 3 picks in the "modern" NBA. A seven-footer who's taken in the Top 3 is expected to be dominant on both ends of the court.

What do you consider to be the cutoff for the "modern" NBA? It's true that you can look back at a great big man like Bill Russell and say he was primarily a defensive player, but he was drafted way back in 1956. I'm not a big expert in the NBA pre-1990 or so, but the two big men that immediately come to mind (Wilt 1959; Kareem, 1969) were obviously superstars on the offensive end.

I went back through the 1990 draft (so, 33 years, 99 top-3 picks) and the only big men - not strictly looking at height - that seem to me to have been selected top-3 without any hope that they would be dominant offensive players on top of whatever defense they bring were Hasheem Thabeet, Tyson Chandler, and Shawn Bradley. You might suggest some others (Emeka Okafor? Had great college defensive numbers but was probably expected to be a good offensive player too?) but it seems to me that we're at least 30 years into the era where it's uncommon for a purely defensive big man to go high in the draft.
