NBA Waivers after trade deadline

I have been thinking about this and I am having a major problem with it.

GP gets traded and refuses to show up only to get waived and go back to his old team. Does any of this sound kind of fishy to you guys? What impact can this have on the NBA? ZO did the same thing to go where he wanted to go.

I think it could have a big impact as more teams may be reluctant to trade during the season. Why would a team trade with Boston now? I almost have a feeling this was all planned out from the start. At least on the surface it seems that way.

Why did the Hawks release Peyton anyway? Why didn't they fine and suspend him for everyday that he refused to show. Instead they waived him? That makes no sense.

This sets a bad precedence in the NBA and I think Dstern should worry about this issue more then a min age a player has to be. This has the ability to get out of control if it’s not stopped. Each year it gets worse and worse. More players each year are demanding trades and now there is this joke of a waiver system/trade deadline.

I too am concerned that someone who has just been traded can immediately go back to his original team. What is up with that? I agree that something needs to be done.

I think if a player refuses to show up after a trade then the entire trade should be called off. Let the original team suspend the guy, but not get the player they were trading for. Oh, crap...........there is no easy solution is there?

Blame it on the teams that waive them. They are still paying their salaries even though they aren't on the roster.

I have a strong feeling this will be one of the things the owners/players union will have to address before the next bargaining agreement is reached.

My personal belief is that there are going to be some changes because paying waived players, paying players who can no longer play, and paying players at the end of crippling contracts has gotten way out of hand.

WORD!!

The Celt's Conspiricy Theory of the Day: I strongly suspcet that some of these buy outs were orchastrated and could well be financed by off the books transactions or agreements. This loop hole that you can drive a truck or Zo's contrat through, IS a problem. I'm not sure the players have any stake in changeing the CBA as the loop hole ALWAYS works to their favor. You don't like the team you were traded to Jimmy? just pout long enough. Want a bonus for palying in Boston Garry? put up with a little trade to team who is rebuilding and once they pay you off will give some more change to play here. I'm not sure the owners want to see it change either, sure it raises the cost of doing buisness a bit, but it's not like NO complained about JJ's one man strike and Atlanta did not seem to minde writing a GP a fat check. So the only ones who might be interested is the leage in some attempt to create parity, asuming of course the leage is interested in parity in the first palce.

any chance Christie can rejoin the kings with this "technique" ?
LOL I thought the same thing. Orlando could buy him out but it's a big multi year contract so I doubt it. But sure if they do why not.

Tony Kornheiser from PTI pretty much goes off about this whole deal everyday on the show...he calls the league "a joke"

i would have to agree...i mean between the whole "refusing to report" deal and the refs in general...the league as slowly gotten out of hand

but i think this is something that they will get to the bottom of before at least the start of next season...its something that the owners and the players union will definetly discuss

I hope your right, but if the palyers union and the owners don't see it as a problem where is the motivation to fix it going to comeform, Tony and his listeners?
