NBA Trade Deadline Mega Thread 2025

Think Monte really needs to take advantage of the trade exceptions at a minimum for depth purposes at PG and C. Not doing thmakes no sense.
He doesn't have to do that now though. He can wait until the summer and see if teams get desperate to cut some salary cap to enter FA. This is probably the smart play at this point.

Doesnt have to do it now but use these or pick assets now to try and win now. Deebo has a short window so we need to take advantage for both years
The Kings didn't do anything to diminish DeMars potential window with the Kings. In fact, Monte just might have made him really happy. Don't do something just because it looks good on paper because then you might actually shut that window on DeMar since then you have no other moves to make. The Kings starting 5 is set for the interim. Any move that gets made has to include that starting 5 otherwise you're just adding depth. Yes, the starters need to have some minutes shaved off, but that only has so much value. 2nds? Maybe. 1sts. Nope, not yet.

Deebo window is relatively short due to age….you have to have that mindset. I’m not talking about him leaving but aging out. It’s win now. And talking about reliable depth pieces. A better back up big and i guess a wing but I think a ball handler could come in handy off the bench as Carter is not getting the time nor is he ready to handle playoff basketball. Looked shaky vs thought TWolves defenders bringing it up

Rookies getting 3 minute stretches against pressure for the first time tend to. The Kings better not be just looking at this playoffs. This is the only mistake Doug is making right now. They have to be realistic, don't rob Peter to pay Paul both in terms of energy and development. They need to start prepping to make a run at the start of next year too and not just win the next 4 minute stretch of BBall. They better start giving Carter and Jones potentially the chances to fail a little more. The payoff of Carter being consistent would likely come sooner not having to look over his shoulder every time he doesn't make the right read and if it does the payoff could be massive as a rotational piece. Again, his leap will probably come in the summer like it did for both Keegan and Keon IF it's going to come, and this season might be more about getting his feet wet knowing he's almost in an impossible situation coming into the year so late. His defense, rebounding, and hustle is already there. His production is there. The Kings haven't totally been losing the minutes by much if at all when the bench has been in. Plenty of teams benches are just about holding the fort as best they can. People in Sac are so used to the Bobby Jacksons, Carl Landry's, and Malik Monks that they think you're screwed if you don't have some 6th man of the year candidate because they can score. Sometimes a teams 6th man is about hustle and defense, not scoring. That's why you see teams stagger in certain ways. Very few teams send in 5 man bench units and platoon. And the ones that do historically find out sooner than later why you don't do that.

Everyone assumed it was Fox that got DeMar there but I think we are seeing a) they weren't buddies and b) knowing that Fox was gone he may have been brought in to directly replace what Fox does in the final 5 minutes of a game. As a bonus Malik seems to be a pretty good #2 in the clutch.
