Nah. Middleton's health and whether or not he's "washed up" is irrelevant, in my Personal Record Book™. If anything, that makes it worse. I think that, if a player has done as much for a franchise as Khris Middleton has for Milwaukee, then the franchise owes to him to give him a "comfortable" landing spot, when and if they decide they don't want him anymore. Not exile him to basketball hell, whether that's the move that best benefits the team, or not. Frankly, the contrary opinion is a big part of why I'll never be a team-first fan again.

the best course of action would let him get healthy and play minimum this year and then the Wiz can trade him to a contender next year (assuming he is healthy). That wouldn’t be a bad situation for him

He still gets to cash that 30mil, and he can be a free agent after this season if he wants. I'm not against players looking out for themselves but to call trading a guy like Middleton to the Wizards 'criminal' is just insane to me. I think the Luka trade would make his point way more, because it literally cost Luka over 100mil. That could be construed as criminal robbery for sure.

For the record, I'm not down with pocket watching, either. That whole, "Well, he's still getting paid, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" mentality is wack to me.

The best remaining course of action, sure, but it won't change the fact that Bucks did not do right by him.

Oh, I stand on the belief that what the Bucks did to Middleton was criminal. I don't think that when teams do this to players that it's more or less criminal based on whether the player got his money or not.

I also don't think that how the Mavericks screwed Dončić has anything to do with this, nor does it make this an iota less bad. This doesn't need to be a competition.

101 games in the last 3 years. He also has sucked for most of this year. He has had maybe his two best games of the year this week so maybe he is turning a corner but a team with championship aspirations isn’t in a position to wait. I’m all for loyalty but it’s probably ultimately better for both players and teams to view the league through a business lens. I think this could be good for him, a flesh start after so many injuries.

Counterpoint: so? We're talking about the Wizards. Don't know if you're a fan of Bomani Jones, but he's fond of making the statement, "I'm [X] years old. The Wizards have never won fifty games in my life!"

I would perhaps be less bothered by the idea of "Well, maybe everybody should treat it like a business," if fans did not hold players to different standards than they do organizations. Like, "everybody" should treat it like a business, but only players get **** on for not being loyal. I do not abide.

I agree. I’ve shifted my stance on it over the years. I don’t expect loyalty from players for that very reason. I don’t like how Fox handled the kings situation but I’m not mad at him for wanting to be closer to family and play with a generational talent. Through a business lens it was the right move for him and the right move for the Kings not signing a guy long term that wants to be elsewhere.
