NBA Owners forced to choose between Maloofs and Sacramento- Aaron Bruski

It's true.. The Maloofs probably thought we couldn't come up with the funding or the arena deal, and when it was done they tried to find any way possible to get out of it and they succeeded.

That last paragraph nailed it. The Maloofs are barely wealthy enough to run an NBA club with the bare minimum of salary paid to players/coaches/office staff and they want to move the team to a place that will give them what would probably equate to the best deal out of all of the owners in the NBA. OR, force them to sell and everything gets done here in Sac and we keep an already successful market in the NBA. Geez tough choice..

I see some similarities to the situation with the Hornets -- scumbaggery on the part of an owner who didn't have enough money. As I understand it, the league took ownership from George Shinn and eventually sold the team to Saints owner Tom Benson. Did Shinn ask the league to take the team or did the league force him to give it up? I'd appreciate hearing from someone who knows more about this situation that I do.

It was for sale and no local buyers so the league stepped in.
