NBA officials returning on Monday

Hall of Famer
Grant just opened his show by saying the NBA will also be returning on monday, which I'm assuming was a result of the meetings with KJ this morning. The NBA will be returning to look at things in a more detailed fashion. More good news.

Oh, and Webber is wearing a purple tie on the nbatv prgame.

Great news. Now someone needs to leak the information that ICON/Taylor is giving to the NBA officials so we can see what's going on with that all-important aspect. Supposedly they were to meet after the KJ meeting from this morning.

They're saying now that if we get another year, it will come with a March 2012 deadline for finished arena plans. One the one hand that's kind of scary if we look at history but on the other hand, things hardly ever get done without a deadline so maybe this will be the collective kick in the pants that Sacramento needs.

This potential move has already been the kick in the pants for the region. The fact that Sac's mayor, West Sac's mayor and the supervisors for Sacramento and Yolo county were all speaking to the NBA today on a joint basis speaks volumes for how much the political attitude has changed in just a few months. If we somehow survive this scare, the fact that this arena project has now become a regional priority gives me confidence that something will get done within a year, if not sooner.

Exactly. I always wanted just one last arena attempt and for the potential lockout to be in the rear view mirror before seeing the Kings leave. If a new arena can't happen now, it never will and I'll have a much easier time watching the Kings go.

I am encouraged. It depends on whether the NBA has the default position that a team stays where it is and there needs to be a substantial argument before a move is OK'd. In other words, for a team to move, there has to be a damn good reason and not simply that the grass appears greener.

The substantial problem would be if an arena is not built. Very honestly, I think that the NBA will wait as long as we aren't blowing smoke up their nether regions. They will wait for more than a year if the plan includes organizing as a multi-county entity to get the dang thing built. The reality is that these things cannot be done quickly.

Stern said that talk of building an arena was an "eye roller." Of course! Now his eyes aren't rolling and that is a huge step. A 6 letter word, "BURKLE," turned the tide for the moment.

In the meantime, assuming a substantial turn around of the team which I thoroughly expect, the arena will start to sell out again. Does anyone doubt that? If the arena sells out, even though it is inadequate by NBA standards, the Maloofs will make money and we really have to hope they make money. A modest success on the way to the build of an arena eliminates the uncertainty of a move and the huge expense and subservient role to a guy namd Samueli that this would be bring. I doubt if they want to be subservient to anyone even if it was for their own good.

As long as they are here, I think we should support them and the team. It does us no good if they stay and go broke.

I don't think whatever rift exists between the fans and the Maloofs is permanently damaged except perhaps with the people who didn't like them in the first place. They seem to be nice guys in an emotional semi-bumbling sort of way and I like them. They made a decison that no matter how it was handled would have stirred the ire of the community. No matter how it was handled, the idea that this family would think of leaving this area hits a chord among most of us. Anger is the most prominent and I think the intensity of the anger comes from a complicated place.

Clearly there needs to be movement in the correct direction in a definitive, measurable way. Promises no longer have any weight. Even a talented, well spoken, and passionate mayor is not enough unless people rally around his energy. I don't question where the Maloof's heart is. I also see where their cold finance bugged brain is.

I cannot help but believe that none of this turn around would have happened without the fans, Mike in particular and whoever he hangs with. The political will is energized from the people and the people are speaking loudly and in purple.

The ultimate fate of this team is still in the hands of the area and it's ability to build an arena.

Very well said. Ditto! On a little side note, relavant or irrelavant. Some of us around here a long time remember loud call for the Auburn Dam to be built. All during mid 70s into the 80s and beyond, you'd see thousands of cars all over the roads of foothills and in Sac with bumber sticker that read, "Build It, Dam it!" Of course, it never happened and that's another story or fiasco depending on your perspective.

Maybe we now need a sea of bumper stickers (after hoped for reprieve on May 2nd) that shout out something like - "New Arena Means Our Kings Stay!"

Hey, look who I noticed was also wearing a purple tie

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/21/3570120_a3570994/nba-reps-sacramento-officials.html

That's gotta be a good sign, right! :)

Holy crap, great find! Hmmm...might good ole' Clay be leaning towards our side?? I'm watching Fox40 news right now, they shows a Fox reporter in Seattle that was wearing purple and showed her support, and they also had one from Hartford, CT that was wearing purple showing support...I thought that was awesome! I think Hartford feels our pain, being a 'one horse' city that lost their only team. I'm wearing purple as much as I can until they announce the Kings are staying and an arena is almost a done deal. HERE WE PURPLE!!!!

I was getting excited until I realized this may be only a one year thing, if we get one year which it looks like will happen, what do you guys think the chances are we get the arena done and keep the kings permanently? the one year thing kind of makes it bittersweet for me but maybes thats because im underestimating the arena getting done? what are your guys thoughts? it would be horrible to go through this again next year

Maybe this pic says all after a day of the color purple in Sac region and across national TV by some obvious and not so obvious Kings supporters.

K.J. with his dominate purple leading the cheers, a*hole R.E. looking smug could care less about some purple tie, and Bennett with his OKC blue tie - or is it purple - not really.

My thoughts? This couldn't be more perfect for us. Our backs were/are against the wall and you see what just happened. I feel we get this thing done. Personally I hope we plop a Sports and Entertainment Complex in the Railyards. It just belongs right there and I think KJ/Us/Sacramento as a whole will make this happen.

That's how I felt at first but after I thought it over, i think the deadline is a good thing. i really think Kevin Johnson can do it. And if he doesn't, then it was probably never gonna happen anyways. At least not anytime in the near future. Unfortunately, we all know that without a new arena, the Kings will leave sooner or later. It sucks but that's how it is. Because if that, a now or never scenario may be the best thing that could have happened to us.

I think without a shadow of a doubt, that we'll know our arena fate way before then...this is the closest, and greatest chance we've EVER had to get this thing done, and I have a gut feeling that it will, knowing who all is working to get it done.

Here is the thing, its pretty simple! No new arena = No Sacramento Kings!

Just how long do you think the team can survive in the Acro Arena?!

The arena has been outdated for years and the need for a new arena is the #1 priority to keep the Kings in town. If Sacramento can't get the arena done, Kings will leave. They can't stay in the old, outdated Arco for ever.

I know that. i was asking what the chances of getting one are if we get another year

Longer than the Maloofs running the Palms !

If they stay for next year I predict a regional arena deal will be done before the start of the season. Season ticket sales will be way up with people wanting seats for the new arena and a team they know will be around.

Stern just released a statement that Crandell just posted real quick...I'm sure he'll tweet the whole thing when he's off the air in a few, but he basically said that 'if the Kings stay, it would be better financially to the team with the renewed enthusiasm. And it would also give US(meaning the NBA) time to get an arena deal done finally'

'US'?!? Didn't he just say back at the all-star game that the NBA was through with helping Sacramento get a new arena?? Now he's saying it would give 'US' the time to get a new arena done?? Wow...what a difference a couple months, an incredible mayor stepping up, and an incredible city banding together like never before!! KEEP IT PURPLE!!!!

If we do get one more year I'm 90% certain a arena deal will get done. Every politican and the business community will know with 100% certainty this will be the last chance we'll get. Have you guys seen the political and corporate shift and urgency that has occured over the past 2 weeks? It's night and day.

Yup...I think Sacramento has set a precedent for regional rallying together. Stern and everyone else, not only in the NBA, but probably the whole country HAS to be impressed with this effort. I can't remember EVER seeing anything like it!

And I think it took an awful lot of work behind the scenes, especially from our mayor, to orchestrate the possibility of generating that shift. Thank you KJ and those who jumped on board! Keep it up all the way to a new arena for Sac! :D

Supposedly the Ziggeraut, the CalEPA and the federal court buildings were lit up in purple last night. Did anyone see them or get any pictures?
