NBA Market Watch: Sacramento Kings

Dont know if this has been posted before, but it was an interesting read.

They have some graphs as well, which is why I didnt just copy and paste the entire thing.
But, here is an excerpt from the article:

Francisco Garcia got the most playing time of any of the team’s young prospects, but didn’t do enough to be considered a trade asset. Garcia looks like he’ll eventually be a solid rotation player, but it’s still uncertain if he’s got enough to become a quality starter. Freeing up some roster space to get him more playing time should make this clear by the end of next season.

Quincy Douby is another interesting player who doesn’t have world-beating ability, but showed flashes of developing into a scoring threat. Douby can shoot off the dribble and can get a quality shot off at some difficult angles. Kevin Martin is a very good teammate for him to emulate, though no one expects him to reach that level. Douby has no trade value, but should get some more playing time next season to show what he’s learned from year one to year two.

Justin Williams is a very interesting prospect who may be a little off the radar for most. Williams per-minute statistics were pretty impressive and anyone who saw him play during the pre-draft process and into summer league should be aware at how superb an interior help defender he can be.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Here is what I found worth some conversation.

Neither Bibby or Artest are going to fetch an established star in return, but they could add some quality young talent and possibly a draft pick. New York would probably part with Channing Frye and their draft pick for Artest, considering that Sacramento would have to take on another undesirable contract to make it work. The deal isn’t world-beating, but Frye has potential as a 3rd scoring option and would probably be an apt replacement for the declining Miller.

I absolutely do not want to take on any bad contracts, but if we can get rid of Artest and get a pick out of it, then we need to see what we can work out. The other contract that would be needed: Jerome James or Jared Jeffries. Jeffries has better defense but both are equally worthless. I would lean towards James because his contract ends a year sooner, in 2010.

There are other options. The obvious thing to consider is that we would probably need to move either SAR or Thomas if we bring in frontcourt help.

Kenny Thomas and John Salmons are in a similar boat as Abdur-Rahim. Both have some solid skills, but underperformed relative to their contract value. The Kings are going to need a stable system and solid production from all of these players if they’re going to move any of them.

This is my main concern. We need to get something going and find any sort of trade partner for some of our bigger contracts. It is not going to be easy, maybe playing up-tempo Phoenix style basketball might give some of our guys untapped value. I'm thinking Kenny is the best bet at being able to play run and gun effeciently.

Since this is obviously headed towards another discussion of potential trades, I'm moving it to the Personnel Moves forum.

:)

id rather have bibby and artest feud and bring some drama than bring in jerome "garbage bag man" james.
Isiah was deeply in love with Artests game and that is where I would find the leverage. We should be able to get Frye, pick, and another guy in exchange for Artest. If only they would trade David Lee.

EEEWWWW....No Artest for Frye.

We have enough softie bigs that dont rebound or play defense thank you very much.

for those of you who have everyones salary on memory,
would frye, pick and crawford work for artest ( idk why but ive always like crawford) or even Qrich

No it wouldn't work...HOWEVER, if you add Kenny Thomas and Malik Rose into that same deal, IT WOULD

or the:

Steve Francis
Channing Frye
#23

for

Artest
Thomas

deal works as well.

I'm not as low on Frye as many are...yes I think he was overhyped as a rookie and yes I know he struggled as a 2nd year player...but i think he'll bounce back and be a solid player for any team and get solid bigs is a MUST have for this team.

It's not that bad of a deal for either team. Both sides would have positives and negatives from it. There are a couple of other ideas that I presume are fan generated, that from a Kings perspective, I like better but this one does seem reasonable and possible.
