NBA Live 06 - pics, rosters, discussion (MERGED)

NBA Live 06 was released today by EA and the reviews are looking very good. Shaping up to be the best NBA simulation game to date, the new super-star moves seem to add a whole new level of play. I just hope NBA Live 07 focuses on some of the niche things bench men and role-players do (also, I wish every player had a temper rating, the higher the madder they could get at bad calls, and if during a game you had a high temper player who got 2 or 3 bad calls in a game and you didnt take him out to cool down, he would get a T, maybe ejected, maybe even fight and get suspended....now THAT would add a whole new level of play).

So is anyone here buying it?

no...it's far too arcadish....according to the gamespot review, the superstar ratings make the game unrealistic...basically the superstars dominate and its far too easy to throw the balll of the backboard ala tracy mcgrady against a strong defensive team like the spurs....the live series is smooth and fn to control but its becoming more and more like nba street with 5 people...i personally prefer the 2k series in general although 2k6 seems to have its own flaws as well

I have NBA Live 2006 and it is FUN! If it is just a sim it will be boring. In real life players do nice dunjks, nice passes, shaq and amare dominante and scorers like T-mac and Kobe make tough shots! I think it is more realaistic with these new features. IGN.com rated it 9/10 but Gamespot always rates Live really bad. Thnis year they rated it 7.7/10.

I also went down to best buy today and bought the game. so far its is VERY fun, the superstar thing makes it a good game.

NBA Live 06 is pretty sick, I'm still getting used to it. My buddy is getting 2k6 so I'll get to compare. So far I've seen a lot of good reviews for live. SI rates it tops too.

I got NBA 2k5 (ESPN) last year, this year I read all the reviews about that superstar thing players in Live have and I thought that was so interesting so I got NBA Live 2006 this year. And wow, it does NOT compare to the 2K series.

1) Graphics are WEAK, even painful compared to 2K
2) Animations are choppy/unrealistic at times
3) Free throw shooting for 2K is sooo innovative, Live just honestly shows no thought
4) Granted most commentary isn't going to be perfect, but Live's commentary SUCKS. I think old school NBA Jam has more insightful commentary =P
5) Overall presentation 2K simply does a better job
6) EA sold out with the soundtrack, please no more MTV music
7) Character models suck! Pejas head is HUGE! Shareef's head is HUGE!

I mean i'm saying this all compared to 2K5, I'd imagine 2K6 will just run circles around Live. The 2K guys honestly put a lot more thought and effort in their games, with EA being the bully it is in the games industry (buying exclusive contracts) I say people should support 2K. =)

Overall I'm really not seeing much of a difference (I wouldn't say weak), except for the glossy skin tones. 2k has always had better graphics, but Live has improved a lot since 03.

I've seen some unrealistic animations in both these games. Player sliding still hasn't been adressed in Live. 2k6 still has some needs to adress its collision animations, they seem repetitve and choppy.

I agree with that. Live's stop on the square is too simple.

Commentary is always going to suck in both these games. ESPN has departed commentating in 2k series so now we're stuck with Bill Walton.

You left out the the games AI and defense, it's much better than 2k.

Last year 2k's defense was a joke. It was too easy to get 90% 3 pt% aqainst the CPU. Also, I've seen some very uncharacteristic moves done by the computer's AI, like the opposing teams center scrub stepping out to shoot the 3.

I been playing both these games for years and after all the slider tweaking they all start to feel the same to me. Both games have things that upset me. It's just all personal preferences, but from what I'm hearing people have been enjoying Live more these past two years than the 2k series.

How do u unlock the Kings' new alternate unis in the game. i have the game for xbox and they arent on the jersey select screen. also how do i get the new pacer jerseys?

They haven't released the codes out yet. When I find them I will post them. I have the game as well and waiting for them too. So far now lock until the codes are posted.
