NBA Draft: What Will The Kings Do?

Yeah, lots of options and we have a GM that's shown both an ability to gauge talent in the draft, and the patience to wait out a good deal.

I don't know what the heck is gonna happen weds, but I'm not really worried about it.

This is the 2nd time someone has mentioned Wednesday. What’s the significance of this Wednesday??

the one positive I’ll add is if Ivey and Fox can be some version of Dame/CJ and you add Sabonis and 2 defensive wings to that mix MAYBE you could build something special. You would need Fox and Ivey to shoot respectably from 3

Just remember, the college stats are there, the most prolific 3 point shooter from actual NBA range in the game last year was Ivey IIRC.

I just don’t think that would work at all, unless the kings can somehow snag the elusive 3 and D wing that they’ve been missing for years, and a stretch 5 who can also defend. Those are pretty big “if’s”

If Ivey is the pick, Fox or Ivey would eventually have to be traded, in my opinion. I just don’t see any way that you can have two non-shooting, non-defending players in your backcourt and expect to win. Not unless Mike Brown is some sort of coaching genius…

If the Kings can't get into the play in spot without this rookie then it's possible anything not nailed down and under the age of 25 is gone anyway. Monte better not ignore the real 50/50 possibility that he's kicking off a total reset at the deadline. I'd say starting it off with a Davion/Ivey backcourt is a pretty good option.

This point cannot be emphasized enough. The Kings are driving a seller’s market here, not trying to unload a toxic asset.

Yet despite it being well documented that several teams are vying to move up for Ivey, and the 4th pick has real value, every fanbase is convinced the Kings are desperate to give it up because of Givony’s stupid, unsourced “not preferred destination” trite.

Honestly, there are very few ways the Kings can screw this up.

One of the top 3 big men could fall in their lap. They could choose Ivey straight up and either try to run with it or put together a trade later. Or they could trade down for a better fitting player and some extra assets.

Now let’s all watch in shock and awe as they somehow manage to screw this up.

I've been firmly team Murray>Ivey (still am), but I'd be fairly upset if we took him at 4 with the reports on how many teams are trying to grab the pick. I have 0 issue with us wanting Murray; but find a way to make Indy or DET pay for the pick and the draft slot. Don't make the same Marvin Bagley process mistake; If you can get the guy you want lower in the draft, make someone pay for your draft slot (which apparently a bunch of teams want to do).

If we're to believe that all these teams want the 4 draft slot, this is where Monte can really show his big boy GM pants and leverage this pick into an incredible haul. And if nothing comes out of it, take Ivey and punt the decision down the line as we did with Hali.

Every notable pro analyst agrees this is a 4 player draft now. And a few think Ivey could even go top 3. Some have even stated he has the talent for #1 and could be best in the class. Half of the teams in the lottery are trying to trade up to 4 for Ivey, and only Ivey. They must see something too.

He can shoot, has a quick release and will get better. He'll get his.

I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt with some good coaching on defense. That's one of main reasons Brown was hired.
Ivey has the tools; speed and 6-9 wingspan is huge for a guard. His knock is he sometime snoozes and loses his guy. He actually mentioned he liked Davion Mitchell as example of D he likes.

I see it as Donovan Mitchell isn't known for D and we'd put him next to Fox no problem.
There is no way he is worse on defense than Buddy Heild.

There's a lot of grey area in today's world about what constitutes a "real journalist".

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if McNair threw that out as a starting point for negotiations.

Hmmm.... if we can swap out barnes for collins, and then add an actual solid wing I think that would be a good upgrade. For sac, I would never take the fools gold of potentially signing a meaningful free agent with cap space, over an established player under long term contract. I don't think of Barnes as an effective SF anymore, so if I'm thinking of both as a power forward next to Sabonis, I'd much rather have Collins at this point.

It's unfortunate Sharpe's stock took a nosedive because I think if Murray really is our guy - and I am not 100% sure I trust that isn't smoke any more that mock guys trying to make a name for themselves by picking what looks like an obvious fit choice bucking the consensus ordering - Detroit probably picks him. Not sure if that helps or hurts our chances in a game of chicken but I think they'd be pretty happy if they aren't forced into a trade.

Still I've been most critical of the Bagley decision for not doing what ATL ultimately did and I'd be disappointed if we don't make a trade if we aren't taking BPA.

If the drop off after Ivey is as steep as everybody seems to believe, then #5 and Bey is probably a bargain, especially with other teams also trying to climb in. The real trick is in determining whether the drop off is as big as perceived or not. If it is, we should hold tight. If it's not, we should squeeze every last bit of value out of the pick and trade high.

Pistons fans think Grant alone is worth a high pick because Portland was going to do something stupid. I would ask for a future first back if it was Grant because I think he walks after a year. I think the pick and Bey is pretty fair value given nobody has a crystal ball. It could be a steal for either team or it could actually be win win.

I think if that Wood trade set a lower value an ANY player in the league it's John Collins. They are pretty much one and the same except Collins really can't slide to either the 3 or 5. If Monte can get him, take Ivey, and only move Barnes you have to consider it. A future pick is sketchy but protection certainly would safeguard it.

Collins looks to me like a player than can switch on defense and hold his own defensively against most NBA players. He looks like a grade higher than Barnes in the athleticism department.

Collins is more athletic. Shooting is about the same. Barnes is a better ball handler and can face up and drive. Collins hasn't really shown that in his game. Value wise, they're about the same.

And Barnes is actually a stronger switch defender on bigs. Collins is like 210.
