Postgame Quotes-vs. NY 11/13/05

Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“I just thought we waited too long to get into this game. In the first half we just never got anything going…I don’t know what the reason was – why we didn’t come ready to play in this game. Finally, in the second half, we got it going, but we were down too far. We cut it to about six (points) about three or four times. We had the ball and turned it over a couple times, missed a couple free throws – and we never got over the hump. It’s just a disappointing game, but after the other night, we kind of just took a step backward tonight.”

Regarding the amount of Kings turnovers:
“You can’t win. We had 21 turnovers tonight – that led to 26 points – that’s a lot of points. That’s just disappointing. I just thought that in the first half we just weren’t active. We weren’t intense enough – and then when we got down, we tried to come back.”

“We took a step backward. We wanted to continue to try to build on (the last win) and we didn’t do it. It was pretty obvious we didn’t do it. We came out and (the Knicks) were the aggressors in the first half, and they got the lead because of it.”

“Just because you have a decent game or a decent quarter, (you think) suddenly you’ve got all the answers, but you don’t…(The Knicks) lost three really close games, and they’re going to be hungry – but we should be hungry too. We’ve got to try to get something going and sustain it, and we just haven’t been able to do it.”

“I was trying to win the game and I thought that was the best combination (of players). They had two guards on the court, and I needed Mike (Bibby) on the court offensively, and I thought Jason (Hart) could do a decent job on (Stephon) Marbury. I thought we were playing pretty good, but once it got to be four minutes left in the quarter we got it down to six or seven. I thought that team gave us the best chance to win at that point.”

“This is very frustrating. There wasn’t any energy out there. We started out all right, and then we started giving up too many easy buckets. They were getting a lot of lay-ups and dunks. We weren’t making our shots. We knew New York was going to be a tough team and they were looking for a win. They got good players on the team and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We had no communication out there tonight. We need to work out our problems because I know they can be fixed.”

“New York kept making big shots. They came out and got their confidence early. New York was a team that hadn’t won (this season) and they were making their shots so their confidence is up. We didn’t start the game off with enough effort. They needed a win and we knew that, but we didn’t have the correct approach to start off the game. We got into a hole early and they had their confidence and their guys were rolling. It’s very frustrating. New York’s a good ball club, they got good players, but it’s frustrating that we allowed them to get their first win. We didn’t come out with the amount of energy that we needed to against a team that was fighting for a win. We weren’t losing our composure, but we were playing more desperate and that caused us to do things not in our character.”

NY KNICKS

Knicks Head Coach Larry Brown:
"It feels good. I always feel good after a team tries hard. We had a lot of guys contribute. To win one on the road against a pretty good team is a good feeling. Our team was great, all of the young kids were great, Jackie (Butler) gave us a couple of good minutes. I thought Malik (Rose) had a terrific game, the stats don’t show it. He guarded great, he was all over the loose balls. We had some crazy things happen to us. We missed a dunk, they hit a three, we had a three on none fast break and we turn it over and they come down and hit a three, we miss a one-footer and they hit a three. There were a bunch of crazy things but we held on and got the win."

Channing Frye:
"We believed in the system and we went out there and just executed and we played hard. We have to understand that we have to stay faithful to our system, and within each other. The Kings played us a certain way and it just so happened that I was open, and I just tried to knock down the open shots. I don’t care if I only score two points in the game as long as we get the win, I feel great. I can’t wait to go to Utah and try to get another one. We were just trying to create problems and speed up the game. With Nate (Robinson) and Trevor (Ariza) out there we can afford to gamble out there a little bit because we know we are so athletic."

Jamal Crawford:
"There was a lot of pressure out there building, we felt it, everyone felt it. We all felt like here we go again, the Kings are going to come back, but we stayed in there. We are all just trying to go out there and do the right things. We wanted to do the things that got us the lead and to keep the intensity up."
