Postgame Quotes-vs. Detroit 11/08/05

Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“We just ran into a better team. (The Pistons) starting five has played together for a while. They executed very well; they shot it very well. It’s a good defensive team. We just had two tough stretches in the first and third quarters. We just have to understand that we have to play better. We’ve just got to keep working at it.”

Regarding the intensity of the Kings:
“I thought that (the Pistons) executed very well. I think we were lax in some areas. We kept our head down and they threw it over the top. They ran out on us, and when a guy shot the ball he took off. Our first three or four steps back weren’t hard enough so they got a lot of easy baskets. 21 fast break points, and I would say about 14 of those were really uncalled for. If that’s intensity, we didn’t take a lot of easy things away from them that they got.”

When asked if the team got frustrated:
“Well yeah, you’re going to get frustrated. You’re not playing very well, you’re not executing very well, and they’re all over you. You can’t expect officials to make calls. You’ve got to play through it. (The Pistons) were the aggressors, they controlled the game because they were the aggressors.”

“(The Pistons) ran their offense…that’s what makes them such a good team. I think we were trying to see if we could take certain things away and we didn’t have an answer for this team tonight. That’s the way it was. They were definitely the better team in the first and third quarters… they played a very solid game tonight. We looked like a team that is inexperienced playing together and that’s what it looks like to me.”

“We started strong, Detroit made a run, and we didn’t respond. It was just a bad effort. As far as my game, I was really bad on both ends of the floor. We have to bounce back as a team. Tomorrow night we have a tough game in Denver and we need to play better basketball. Detroit plays good basketball. We didn’t play good enough defense. They were running and getting easy buckets that we shouldn’t be allowing. We have to regroup and do better tomorrow. We have to find out what we did wrong, and come back together as a team. Tonight, we just couldn’t do anything. Detroit is a good team; we expected them to play hard and they did tonight.”

“I don’t think we were playing hard enough, and we stopped playing. We have to play together on both ends of the court. They were making their shots. I was embarrassed, and I don’t like to be embarrassed. It was our first game at home, but we’ve got to bounce back with a better game tomorrow. Denver’s a tough team, and it’s tough to play in Denver. We’ve got to play like we did in Phoenix when everyone moved the ball and played together with a lot of energy. We didn’t play with any energy tonight.”

DETROIT PISTONS

Pistons Coach Flip Saunders:
"We decided that we were going to match-up Tayshaun (Prince) with Peja (Stojakovic). I think if we have a guy who is good on offense, we are going to make him work on defense. You can’t let him go off at one end and then not work at the other end. We made a conscious effort to get the ball to Tayshaun. He is playing with a lot of confidence. I think defensively, our big guys did about a good a job as we could ask of them. Everything Sacramento does is geared towards getting the ball at the elbow, and our big guys did an unbelievable job of defending the elbow."

Maurice Evans:
"Our guys played well and we played hard and executed. A lot of guys really stepped it up. Our team has good basketball IQ, and a lot of court recognition. If one guy gets hot we find a way to get him the ball and keep him going. The last two games it has been all Tayshaun; who knows who it will be next game. It’s great that we got this win. This is a great arena to come and play in and especially if you can get a win."

Chauncey Billups:
"I think we came out and played real aggressive. Everyone was able to contribute. A lot of teams might find that unexpected. They usually might think that our only options are Tayshaun or Rip (Richard Hamilton). It’s great when we can have everyone contribute. Rasheed (Wallace) came out and made some huge buckets. We are always much better when we all contribute."

In my opinion, Mike and Peja need to work on their personal pronouns, because in a lot of places I think they could have used the more appropriate "I" pronoun instead of the much less accurate "we".

I was just thinking the same thing.

I've actually seen a few quotes this season in which Mike steps up and takes a lot of the blame himself.

And, last night "we" was pretty accurate. Team sucked as a whole. Even the bast performances last night were brief flashes, rather than steady glows.
