NBA All Star Weekend 2014

Apparently great minds think alike. (See my post directly above yours... :p

:p

The only "issue" perhaps is his speed in releasing each shot. I think taller guys like Korver/Belinelli who don't use much legs have the advantage in this contest.

There seems to be a general malaise about the whole evening. Of all the singers and all the songs that could have been done, that one certainly didn't do anything to rev up the crowd. Or maybe I'm just so totally not the right demographic that I can't even relate any more...

Okay, this format (for the dunk contest) totally and complete sucks. It's getting way too freaking complicated.

Shaq just about has to go with Ben, right? :)

Can't blame them for trying after the constant displeasure with the dunk contest the last few years. Let's give it a shot and judge it at the end

No. I'm going to hate it. I've already decided. :p

I'll never be worse than the wheel.

I'd prefer the wheel to what's going on this year.

And oh good...more stupid Cliff Paul crap? They really think that's funny???? Good lord. Gotta wonder how much money State Farm threw at them for all that. If I did have State Farm insurance, I'd cancel it because of the rampant stupidity and insults to the All-Star weekend in general.

As I've said before, I like all of All-Star Weekend, and the dunk contest just fine. But, the dunk contest will never be "back," until they can get the stars to come back.

And the stars aren't coming back. Dominique and Doc did a good job touching on it during the Open Court episode, I think: the stars have become too invested in their "brand," and take themselves way too seriously. Back in the day, they wanted to see who "the man" was, and I think 'Nique had it about right: guys nowadays are scared to find out they're not "the man."

Yeah but the same problems evident - his hands don't look good catching the ball... He has the hops, but the hands are a little more questionable
He reminds me of Steve Francis, in that regard. His hands might be a little too small to control it.

Like Lebron, who year after year claims he would win the dunk contest, but never actually participates?

Yep. And it's a shame. They showed LBJ putting on a dunk exhibition for his teammates in practice. I would almost even root for him if he dared to show up on ASW and do it.

Maybe next year they should keep a video record of all the dunks made during games and see if the players can match them. I'm just so much more impressed with real-life dunks.

Lillard certainly doesn't seem to be that good IMHO. And it looks like he landed awkwardly to boot. Certainly would suck for Portland if he came up hurt because of the dunk contest.

Okay, that was cool...the entrance but not so much the dunk. Do it right the first time or give it up...

They have no idea how lucky they are I am not a judge. My response would have been, "Well, neither one really impressed me that much..."

At least they're saving the best for last. Sure hope Ben can land that 720. It will bring down the house.
