National Go Red For Women Day

This is a subject very near and dear to me. Late this summer, I became very ill and was diagnosed with severe dilated cardiomyopathy (http://www.heartcenteronline.com/myheartdr/common/articles.cfm?ARTID=428). With the right combo of meds, diet, exercise and support (including our own VF, 6th & Slim) I've been able to regain normal heart function and size. In the course of educating myself about my condition, I realize how seriously at risk we all are to develop heart disease, and this risk is increasing for women in particular. A woman's odds of developing breast cancer is 1 in 8 - everyone's odds of developing heart disease is 1 in 3.

February 4 is Go Red For Women Day - wear something red, or call 1-888-myheart to receive a free red dress pin. Or better yet, click the link at the top of this post and donate to AHA.

I, too, am glad you are doing better. Thanks for the information. I will be wearing red and will be passing to others as well.

arwen, my dear friend, you know how thrilled I am that your health has taken such a dramatic turn for the better. I want to also thank you for putting yourself out there to call attention to the dangers of heart disease to others. I will mark my calendar for Feb 4th.

Hi Arwen. *hug* Thanks for the link. I've already told a few others about this because you mention it. :) I'll make sure to wear Red on Feb 4th.

I'm very glad to hear about your success, dear arwen.

I own nothing red. I will be purchasing something to make sure I have it to wear on Feb. 4.

Thanks for sharing your story and helping others become aware of this potential killer.

Thank arwen for passing on the news!! I will surely do my part...

Glad to hear you are doing better. :)

You have our support here at Kingsfans!!

Glad you bumped it, I didn't see it, as I don't hang out in the Lounge nearly enough.
Let me add my relief that you are doing better to the thoughts already expressed by others here.

I'll be wearing red tomorrow!

I, too, am very glad you've recovered so well, arwen!

:D

arwen, the Governor of Illinois has asked all state workers to wear red tomorrow in support of "Go Red for Women Day".

I sent the link to everyone in my office. I know most of administration will wear red, including me. :) I also sent it to my friends and family.
