This is a subject very near and dear to me. Late this summer, I became very ill and was diagnosed with severe dilated cardiomyopathy (http://www.heartcenteronline.com/myheartdr/common/articles.cfm?ARTID=428). With the right combo of meds, diet, exercise and support (including our own VF, 6th & Slim) I've been able to regain normal heart function and size. In the course of educating myself about my condition, I realize how seriously at risk we all are to develop heart disease, and this risk is increasing for women in particular. A woman's odds of developing breast cancer is 1 in 8 - everyone's odds of developing heart disease is 1 in 3.
February 4 is Go Red For Women Day - wear something red, or call 1-888-myheart to receive a free red dress pin. Or better yet, click the link at the top of this post and donate to AHA.
