If Clips keep Brand, deal 1 gives them contender status with Baron, Kamen, Brand and Ron.

Bulls get rid of Hughes contract and get a legit center whose shortcomings they can cover for, Salmons fits in perfectly as well (no need to resign Gordon, save money and all that).

Meanwhile we get horrible players with horrible contracts (Hughes and T Thomas), potential lottery bust (Tyrus Thomas, bad attitude and complete lack of any basketball skills) and Thornton. Other then Thornton I don't want any of those guys anywhere near Kings locker room.

I'm still not completely sold on the Al Thornton deal if the intention is to make him the starting SF of the future - it's good value for an Artest trade and I doubt his value is much higher, but I just don't know about the plan to have two all-offense guys on the wing. Thornton played well down the stretch, but he's a streaky player and a bit of a one-dimensional one. I'd take it, but I don't know if he's a long-term solution at SF, particularly if Salmons is going to be traded.

And I actually think we might give up too much in the second (I had proposed this same earlier, but with Chicago giving another kid or pick). Miller and Salmons are both still somewhat valuable individually, but since Hughes doesn't really have a place on the roster (or shouldn't), it's a lot to give up for just Tyrus Thomas, who still has only shown flahses of potential but who could still yet could turn out to be a bust. I think Chicago might need to sweeten the deal a bit, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Possible. However, I strongly believe his value can be much higher around the deadline.

One never knows with Ron. He might completely kill his trade value with some stupid act. However, if he stays in control, some team struggling to make the playoff, or hoping to go higher might be willing to give up more to get him.

Phoenix in particular could be a potential partner. Shaq, Nash and Hill all want to win now, and after Marion's departure, they do have a hole at SF. If we could get some prospects/picks for him around the deadline, it might be better than getting Al Thornton from the Clips.

They wouldn't trade Kleiza for Artest, so I highly doubt they're gonna trade Melo for him and Miller

The first trade would deplete the Clips' bench--not sure if they are in gung-ho fully win now mode, seems like they're moreso in limbo, so trading away one of their young studs of an older player of questionable character (and that's an understatement) would seem unwise.

The second trade seems more reasonable, but I'm not a fan of Larry Hughes at all, and my interest in Ty Thomas is starting to wane because there's just something raw about him that I just think he won't quite fulfill. I don't know how else to put it...but I think he's been somewhat exposed.

I don't think Chicago makes that deal. They're trying to get younger, not win now. Taking in Brad Miller for two seasons doesn't really help them at all and they would give up a lot of potential in Tyrus Thomas to do it. Not gonna happen. If Ben Gordon leaves this summer they'll need Larry Hughes at SG anyway and he's a better player than Salmons.

Anyway, I don't know why people seem so down on Thomas. No he isn't the next great PF already, but he's super active on defense, runs the court better than anybody his size, and has a pretty automatic midrange jumpshot. I'd swap anybody on our roster for that guy in a second.

Larry Hughes being a better player than John Salmons is debateable in my opinion. I used to be a semi-fan of Hughes, way back in his Philly/Golden State days, but he's turned into an oft-injured tweener who has gone from team to team and never really contributed on a consistent basis.

At this point, I'd rather have John Salmons. And if we're moving Artest, I'd like to have John start over Cisco, since John is much more effective in the starting lineup, and bring Cisco off the bench.

I go all the way back to St. Louis University with Larry Hughes. I'm originaly from St. Louis and had friends that graduated from St. Louis U. I was a big fan of Hughes back then. My problem is, that all the deficenies he had back then, he basicly still has. He's always tried to get by on his athletic ability, and, I guess some would say he's done that. He's far richer than I'am. John Salmons can do everything Hughes can do, and he can do it cheaper.
