my new rotation:

kupman

Starter
This may sound a little unconventional but maybe Reggie should give this rotation a try when everyone is healthy:

Team A (the future):
PG - Beno/brown
SG - Martin
SF - Garcia
PF - Thompson
C - Hawes

Team B (the past, with the exception of donte):
PG - Jackson
SG - Salmons
SF - Greene
PF - Moore/ Williams
c - Miller

Team A starts the game and plays the first 8 minutes. Team B then enters the game to play the next 8 minutes. Team A then re-enters the game to play the final 8 minutes of the half.

Repeat for the second half.

The future gets 32 minutes per night to build with each other. The past gets 16 minutes per night to let the future rest. Donte gets 16 minutes per night to start proving himself.

Nobody gets yanked for bad play.

I would love to see team A play together for 32 minutes per night. I am not sure that having Salmons on the court with Team A is good for anyone's development. He is a very good player, but the ball pretty much disappears with him. Also, I think our chemistry stinks with Martin and Salmons on the court together.

I would switch Salmons and Garcia only because I think that Garcia has more of the characteristics of a great 6th man and sitting Salmons on the bench is going to kill his trade value. The man just won't play well coming off the bench. Of course Salmons starting would only be temporary until he gets traded(which he should). I would love to see JT get the start. I think that everyone should play the position they should be playing(Hawes is a center, JT is a PF.) Why Miller hasn't been relegated to the bench yet is beyond me.

On the surface looks nice. However, the reality of mixing best progress and development of the kids along with winning some games will require Miller and Salmons to be key starters along with Beno and Hawes. Cisco in the 3 works until Kevin is 100% then as Arkitect says "Garcia has more of the characteristics of a great 6th man" and his energy off the bench replacing a 1, 2, 3 or 4 depending on matchups is more valuable in the long run.

It'd be a pity to kill the trade value of all of our vets at once by seeming to say that they were no longer good enough to be starters.

How about trading a few for enders and picks, then:

Team B (the past, with the exception of donte):
PG - Jackson
SG - Some ender
SF - Greene
PF - Some ender/ Williams
c - Some ender

I'd feel just fine about that.

Nothing unconventional besides the minute distribution, whihc isn;t going to work. But lineup wise? You've pretty much hit upon exactly what anybody wanting to accelerate this rebuild has been begging for. Play the kids. Ignore the vets. Better yet, trade the vets and let's ignore this whole Team B stuff.

We need to find a young PG who can shoot and defend. Beno isn't going to cut it IMO. I know everyone wants enders, but I'd rather look at trading for another piece to build with. There aren't so many great FAs this year anyway.

I wouldn't mind that a bit, but we seem to have this idea that everyone who has finished their initial rookie contract is entitled to MLE. And it's hard to find youngsters making close enough to MLE to be a legal trade unless they were top 3 draft picks. Nobody's going to trade us someone like that for Salmons or Mikki. And if we take 2 players back, then we end up waiving a youngster to take on an oldster again, and that's kind of self-defeating.

So I'm fine with the theory, just a tad pessimistic on the practice.

Won't happen because Salmons would sulk for the rest of the season, probably shoot 30%, get 1 reb a game, stop defending. His trade value would go down to zero. Management should trade Salmons now before they even have to deal with this problem. Isn't there a team out there that needs a "Kobe-stopper"?

Everybody wants a PG who can distribute and defend and the Kings would be way down on any PG's list. Beno is the PG and Bobby Brown is the rookie in waiting. Beno just needs some time in the starting slot now having benefit of a training camp.

Keep in mind that to get assists, the players being passed to have to shoot with max of one or two dribbles. Spot up shooters: Peja for example. Kevin is the best at quick spot-up shooting. Brad and Spencer can shoot from a dish just they are slower. The rest are ball pounders that eliminate assists when they get the ball.

I love Beno's size and fearlessness and his abilities. But now he needs help from the team to spot up and shoot or finish to the bucket and not dribbling around more.

Before I reply let me give a shout-out to John - HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN SALMONS! - Let's celebrate by watching you give Kobe fits again!

I don't really care if John sulks. I probably would too if were him. He is a very good player. I am just not sure if he is part of our future. He is a little old for "the future" and I personally hate the chemistry (or lack there of) when he and Kmart on the floor together.

I totally don't buy that reducing his minutes will impact his trade value. the league of the league has seen what is can do. They are not going to just forget that. The same can be said for the rest of the vets. I don't see how playing them is going to increase their trade value at all.

So if the Kings play him as a sub, and Salmon's play suffers, you don't seeing him worth less? If anything, a team that might be interested is going to be thinking - if you aren't playing him as a starter, then why should I give you starter value in return? And they would be saying that to the Kings in a negotiation as well. Just makes sense.

I really don't think it diminishes his trade value if his minutes get cut. It's just my thinking. I see your point though.

However, your thinking could lead to more confusion on who should be getting minutes. That is, by you thinking maybe Team B should get most of the minutes along with some K-9 time in the hopes that someone starts to play well so we can trade them.

I would much rather let all the vets sit (salmons included) longer minutes. Let the league know that they are all on sale for the right price and if a good offer is not made then just let their contracts expire.

How 'bout we just solve the problem by trading him. :)
