Okay, let's not get too carried away. :p

Eric Musselman isn't Red Auerbach; he isn't Pat Riley; he isn't even Rick Adelman.

I think some of us have gotten giddy over the fact he's NOT John Whisenant.

Hey both our ex-coach's and potential future coach's name end with "elman." I take solace in that atleast.;)

Watch everybody botch his name when the "Fire Mussleman" threads begin.:D

I'll pass on Musseman! Id rather have Coach Whiz instead of him.

Er....no.

Musselman is not my #1 choice, but at least he's a reasonable one. A young NBA coach in some demand who is going to get another shot from somebody. That's miles from saying he is a championship caliber coach or whatnot, but at least he belongs in the league. Been prepared for it. Paid his dues. Knows the players, the refs, the rules, the stadiums, the speed of the game, and generally has experience where it counts -- in the NBA itself.

His tendency to rub his players raw in his first try might mean its not the right choice in the long run, but at least it has a chance to work.

Just listen to KHTK with Sam Amick then Mark Kriedler. A couple things of note.

-The 2nd interview hasn't officially happened yet to their knowledge. Maybe they went to dinner, but not an interview.

-The Maloofs have been slowed, and steered away from Whisenant by some sense getting talked into to them by Petrie, and they've heard the public opinion loud and clear.

-Yes the Maloofs care about public opinion, they are trying to get a new arena built by that public.

-They trust Whisenant, and the Maloofs are huge on trust, that's why Whisenant was an obvious candidate for them.

-The "Wrong move" being made won't chase Petrie away. Petrie would rather find an answer that both he and the Maloofs can live with. Petrie has told Kriedler that he doesn't want to leave Sacramento, he hopes this is his last stop until the end of his career.

-Whisenant could still very well end up the coach, but for now they are exploring all the options thoroughly.

The player he rubbed wrong in Golden State was Jason Richardson and that's because J-Rich was interested in winning the scoring championship and didn't want to play defense.....at all.

Petrie said this a while ago in disputing that there were any issues between him and the Maloofs. He said they've always been able to agree on the final decisions. He said one side or the other may agree with reservations, but they'e always agreed on the decisions themselves.

It was interesting to hear Kriedler on Petrie. He said that Petrie is really, really good at listening, at letting people people explore what they want. However, at some point he starts to steer them in the direction he thinks it needs to go. I suspect that Whisenant was an obvious possibility to the Maloofs, becasue they admire and trust him, but I think the Musselman 2nd interview is Petrie doing that "steering." I believe that is what Kriedler was saying.

Indeed. That team also didn't really fit Musselman's mind other than 2 or 3 guys.
