More (maybe too much?) about Jennings (MERGED)

Maybe when/if Jennings gets to the level of Shaq or Kobe we could revisit the whole thing...

I jumped to the conclusion yesterday that Jennings didn't intentionally mouth off but was led that way by Amick. In seeing everything subsequently, however, I've changed my mind. This guy has a big mouth but nothing to back it up. Talk is really, really cheap - I don't suspect we'll see him in Arco unless he buys a ticket like everyone else.

Cry me a river NBA players do it all the time....Shaquille O'neal, Kobe Bryant, Deshawn freaking Stevenson, LeBron James

What has Jennings proved to talk trash? He couldn't even get off the bench half the time. He plays one game against Rubio and had better stats when Rubio was playing with one hand, and he trash talks him. I think there's probably a reason he never got much playing time

Worry about the decisions Jennings makes on the court. I want to know more about that. Besides Gary Payton makes Jennings look like Miss Manners and he found a way to be an all star player and highly coveted PG for his NBA career.

Again with the comparisons to a future HOF? What is it about Jennings that's so impressive he can be excused for blatant stupidity and an overactive ego (and considering who I'm comparing him to, that's quite a feat)...

I'm not going to worry about the decisions he makes on the court for the simple reason I don't think he's going to be anywhere close to the hardwood at Arco.

There are good point guards in this year's draft that could really help our Kings. I won't apologize for not including Jennings among them. His is, IMHO, the type of egocentric attitude that can cause a lot of damage to a young team. No thanks...

I ask that you never put Gary Payton in the same sentence as Jennings ever again. Thank you :). Feel free to use Steve Francis as an example if you like, who was an All-star with a pre-draft ego, but he never did help a team get better, n now he's out of the league or close to it.

Makes his comments about outclassing Rubio sound Hypocritical. Maybe he IS just running his mouth to hype the draft a little.

I think, to paraphrase Top Gun, his ego is writing checks his body can't cash...

And just because players like Kobe and Shaq do mouth off doesn't mean its all of a sudden an OK thing... the only thing those two back up with their words is that they are huge douchebags... I don't want that on my team.

But at least they've walked the walk. Thus far, all Jennings has done is talk the talk...and talk is cheap.

I'll spell it out for you, since you seem to find it difficult to understand:

All those guys are NBA players right now. Three of them are HOFers.

Jennings called a guy who put up 16/7/6 against Real Madrid, who are one of the best teams in the world outside the NBA, in an important playoff game. Want to know where Jennings was when his team was in the playoffs? At home. Couldn't make the roster.

Are you finally starting to understand why his comments seem not just arrogant, but downright stupid?

Or is that too much to expect?

I'm not saying Jennings is a future HOF guy. I'm only saying that some are looking WAY too hard at one off the cuff interview. Many of those HOFers that get passes for the stupid stuff that comes out of their mouth actually did talk this smack in college and high school too. Well before you ever paid attention to them.

First things first - does the guy make good PG type decisons or does he call his own number too often? That's what's going to affect his draft stock and career way more than a sound bite. You can bring up his issues at trying to get into college and his questionable choices as high schooler. There are legit red flags that should be brought discussed.

But if you dismiss every player who trash talks or shows disrespect to another player, then you better open up the discussion to a lot of other guys that play the game. And yes people's memory gets fuzzy about what kind of a guy they are once a player proves himself in the NBA.

Ok, I respect this argument. You've made some good points.

However, you shouldn't trash talk when you haven't proven a thing. Sure, he was highly scouted in high school, but so was Holliday, who is in a similar situation because he had a disappointing year. But you don't hear him saying he's better than anyone else, he just leaves it all on the court. Yes, I like Rubio but that isn't why I'm jumping all over Jennings. He just needs to shut his mouth, or at least back up his claims on the court.

We wouldn't even be having a nice debate today. But thanks to Amick and the other observers who watched Jennings best Flynn yesterday, it's now interesting at least. We'll see if his stock soars in the next week. If there is hype to be had, he will rise up. But if he's not, then maybe the GMs watching these workouts are seeing things they don't like in him despite blowing by defenders with ease.

I personally think it's great to see everyone wanting to be a Kings pick at #4. Nothing like a wide open starting job to get the juices flowing.

Jennings says he is a pure point guard too, but it looks like he is better at the 1:1 game. He only averaged 2.3 assists in Italy...

Jennings can say whatever he wants, I don't mind, as long as he isn't on our team come october. He hasn't earned the right to say what he said, but its realy on him if he wants to put that much more pressure on himself heading into next year.

My only criticism of what Jennings said is that there really isn't any truth to back up his statement. Rubio has been pro since he was 15, has been considered the best pg in europe for a few years now, was named the defensive player of the year of the ACB League, and ran his team very well as the starting pg despite having an injured right hand all season.

Jennings didn't start one game for his team last season, and struggled to even get off the bench for a while. I find it dillusional that Jennings is calling out Rubio when he couldn't even contribute on a regular basis to his team, while Rubio played the entire year with a target on his back a proved he was the best pg in europe. Like I said, Jennings can say whatever he wants to say, but the fact is Rubio has a much longer and impressive resume than Jennings.
