More Fun With Numbers...

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
1) Hit the Road...Or it Hits Back
In compiling our 14-18 record, the Kings have been playing overwhelmingly at home. The Kings have played the fewest road games in the NBA this year (12) while having already used up half of our Arco dates (20).

2) Home Bland Home
With the loss to the Cavs, the Kings fell to 10-10 at home. During the entire 01-02 and 02-03 seasons combined, we only lost 11 at home (71-11).

3) Just Say No to Third Quarters
It wasn't always so -- we started off the season 6-1 in 3rd quarters. But since that time we have gone 8-1-16 in the third, and been outscored by a combined 64 points.

4) The More Things Change...
We grab 40.8 reb/gm, give up 42.3rebs/gm (-1.5 reb/gm). Last year we grabbed 40.5 reb/gm, and gave up 42.1 reb/gm (-1.6 reb/gm). We have outrebounded a mere 10 of 32 opponents, amny of them in the first few weeks of the season.

5) The More Things Change...Pt.2
We are allowing 101.6ppg on defense, the same number we allowed in the 04-05 season (Yr Webb and Doug were traded and Cat and KT + friends arrived).

6) DEFENSE!!!
Of all our many indicators, this one is perhaps the strongest: we are 3-15 when allowing our opponent to score more than 100. Also, BTW, means that we have allowed 18 of 32 opponents to score 100+.

7) Think I May Detect a Problem...
This season our entire power forward rotation (Reef, Kenny, Corliss, Mo) has combined to average:
23.9pts 15.8reb 3.2ast 1.9stl 1.3blk in 68.3 min/gm
In 00-01 Chris Webber alone averaged:
27.1pts 11.1reb 4.2ast 1.3stl 1.7blk in 40.5 min/gm

8) Peja Vu Indeed
We've seen this pattern before:
Peja Stojakovic:
99-00: 23.6min 11.9pts (.448 .375 .882) 3.7reb 1.4ast 0.7stl 0.1blk 1.2TO
00-01: 38.7min 20.4pts (.470 .400 .856) 5.8reb 2.2ast 1.2stl 0.2blk 2.0TO
Kevin Martin:
05-06: 26.6min 10.8pts (.480 .369 .847) 3.6reb 1.3ast 0.8stl 0.1blk 1.1TO
06-07: 35.6min 21.3min (.501 .419 .888) 4.5reb 2.1ast 1.2stl 0.1blk 1.7TO

Great post Brick. We need to start at the PF situation and go from there. 4 usless (shall I say) entites on this team. I mean if they are not going to perform on either end of the court, why not just go with a defensive PF for now.

Arco arena used to mean an instant loss to any team that came in. It used to mean to the East that they might as well not even show up. It used to mean the best home-court advantage in the NBA. How far things have come...

Arco was a feared place, period now teams can't wait to come there to beat the Kings. thats how far things have fallen apart. and now it will take a while to fix the whole thing. we have no HCA anymore.

I think the toughest # of all of this is the fact that we're 10-10 at home thats unheardable.

Except that, on this date last year, we were 9-11 at home. We were more understanding about it, because Bonzi's finger had been sideways for several weeks, and SAR had a broken jaw. This year we just suck.

The sad thing is, you don't really even need to look at the numbers. Just look at the faces of the players or their posture. It tells the whole story.

I still can't comprehend what I heard Geoff say on the radio over the summer, that losing Bonzi's rebounding wouldn't hurt because we'd get better "as a team." Who didn't see this coming?

Well, he's right about the first part -- losing Bonzi hasn't hurt the rebounding. We're just as mediocre as we were last year.
