Hall of Famer
IF and this is a BIG IF, the new owners want to bring in Ellis they would have to clear out most of the min-chuckers for him. I for one would be fine with an Evans Ellis back court, with Douglas and/or IT comming off the bench. But to add bodies to an already glutted position makes no sense unless you are going to clear out some folks. Ellis is a very good shooter, can and will pass and played some D so I do consider him an upgrade to every guard we have not named Evans, he might even make a nice second choice if Evans is determined to walk, but given Evans presence at he rallies and the plethora of #13 Jerseys being sported by Randive and other new faces, I don't think that is very likely.
If Ellis were to come here, I would wish to god that he was a good shooter, but he's not. He's averaged under 30% from the three for most of his career, hitting a high of 36% five years ago. He used to have a decent overall aveage which hovered around 45%, but the last couple of years he's been around 42%, while shooting around 29% from the three. Rather than call him a good shooter, I'd call him a scorer, but not a particularly effecient one. However, he is a very good passer and averages around 6 assists a game.
This isn't a player like Tyreke where you hold out hopes that in the future his shooting will continue to get better. He's already been in the league long enough to make those improvements, and it hasn't happened. A lot of his poor shooting can be attributed to poor shot selection. I know its been reported that Ellis likes Malone, but what we don't know is whether Malone wants Ellis. I'm sure that Malone will have some input into player selection, and since he's a defensive minded coach, I would think he would lean in that direction. Not sure Ellis falls into that catagory. Now Chris Paul does, and he likes Malone as well. Let me see, who would I choose? Ellis, or Paul? Hmmm! Boy, thats a tough decision......
