Monta Ellis Interest

IF and this is a BIG IF, the new owners want to bring in Ellis they would have to clear out most of the min-chuckers for him. I for one would be fine with an Evans Ellis back court, with Douglas and/or IT comming off the bench. But to add bodies to an already glutted position makes no sense unless you are going to clear out some folks. Ellis is a very good shooter, can and will pass and played some D so I do consider him an upgrade to every guard we have not named Evans, he might even make a nice second choice if Evans is determined to walk, but given Evans presence at he rallies and the plethora of #13 Jerseys being sported by Randive and other new faces, I don't think that is very likely.

If Ellis were to come here, I would wish to god that he was a good shooter, but he's not. He's averaged under 30% from the three for most of his career, hitting a high of 36% five years ago. He used to have a decent overall aveage which hovered around 45%, but the last couple of years he's been around 42%, while shooting around 29% from the three. Rather than call him a good shooter, I'd call him a scorer, but not a particularly effecient one. However, he is a very good passer and averages around 6 assists a game.

This isn't a player like Tyreke where you hold out hopes that in the future his shooting will continue to get better. He's already been in the league long enough to make those improvements, and it hasn't happened. A lot of his poor shooting can be attributed to poor shot selection. I know its been reported that Ellis likes Malone, but what we don't know is whether Malone wants Ellis. I'm sure that Malone will have some input into player selection, and since he's a defensive minded coach, I would think he would lean in that direction. Not sure Ellis falls into that catagory. Now Chris Paul does, and he likes Malone as well. Let me see, who would I choose? Ellis, or Paul? Hmmm! Boy, thats a tough decision......;)

Don't be a hater. Monta Ellis have it all.

How about trading the #7 and Salmons (ender) for as signed-and-traded Monta?

I wouldn't. The only way I would even consider Ellis is if we had used all of our other mini chuckers to bring back a more valuable needed piece and he was willing to come in at a reasonable salary to be the scorer off the bench. Even then, we potentially have bigger needs but it would at least be up for discussion.

Smart is no longer coach. No need to load up on chuckers.
Although a lineup of IT/Ellis/Jimmer/Thornton/Evans does sound sexy...

no! why exarcerbate a problem that direly needs fixing and that we shouldn't have in the first place? enough with the undersized chuckers already!

I'd rather use the #7 on McCollum (assuming Noel, Porter & Oladipo are off the board) and then use Salmons, Thornton and Jimmer in trades to address the forward positions.

I posted this when Marc Jackson said it a couple months back, but it applies, and given Vivek is a fan of Jackson I highly doubt this is lost on him.

On trading Ellis to the Bucks:

"It helped change the culture. Obviously it was easier to pull the trigger because we knew what we had in Klay and it was time for him to be a starting two-guard. And he does everything right."

How did that trade change the culture? Jackson paused four seconds.

"It helped change the culture," he finally said.

Anything specific?

"You know."

Still think there's much to this?

Is Monta a trouble maker? I don't know and that quoted snippet left me confused.

Ellis doesn't fit, even if we got rid of Evans. Ellis won't make the Kings any better. GS learned when you get rid of Ellis and replace him with a player (Klay) that fits the team better (who might not be as good of an individual talent as Ellis) then it makes the team as a whole better.

Ellis has Iverson Syndrome.

I am not a fan of Ellis and don't think he would be a good addition. Hopefully this is just a lame rumour.

Having said that-

Monta Ellis next to Tyreke Evans would be better than Monta next to Curry or Brandon Jennings.

...still not keen though.

Jose Calderon is a free agent and brings a more interesting skill set. Not without his weaknesses, but a much better fit.

If we manage to sign this guy, this may turn the franchise around. Everything the Kings desperately need: High IQ, great Shooter, great P&R Ballhandler, not ball-dominant, mediocre defender

I think Calderon is a better fit next to Evans than Monta. Calderon is a Much better 3 point shooter and always has averaged higher assists.
