Martinez and Boyd are potentially guys who can turn it around and offer great depth … they’ve shown in the past they have something to offer but some of these chances/redemption guys Farhan signs are eventually going to flop.

I don’t think Beede makes it out of spring. Out of options, and think he’s too erratic to stash in the bullpen to prevent the DFA. It’s a shame because his pure stuff is filthy he’s just never been able to command it. Shame really.

DiSclafani and Wood are both so hit or miss… Disco looks like an ace one start then gives up 6 the next. Wood looks like an ace through 4 or 5 innings then falls to pieces.

Hopefully Rodon and Cobb stay healthy and it doesn’t matter. We’ll see.
I think that's just your usual level Slab-tilt talking lol. Both dudes were really quality 3-4 guys last year backed by every metric. And Disco couldn't have been more consistent last year tbh. Outside of getting blown up by the Dodgers twice for 14 ER in 4 2/3 IP, he only gave up more than 3 ER in one other start (4 to Arizona). That had a 2.48 ERA in 163 IP in those 29 other starts.

Wood was more volatile, but everything suggests he recovered his talent level after 2 injury-filled years and should be able to repeat last years performance as a really good 3-4 guy.

Just do ties then. The ghost runner is such a disgrace. It’s not baseball anymore at that point and extra innings games shouldn’t count.
I like this. 3 innings max of OT to win the game. Home team gets the chance to tie or win if the away team scores in that first or 2nd frame. Lets each team get through their LU one time and it's not a huge tax on the BP.

Unless it's an actual playoff game, there is absolutely no reason a game shouldn't be allowed to end in a tie.

Athletics new marketing strategy unveiled. Double ticket prices while gutting on the field product and watch the most die hard fans still show up before team finally leaves Oakland forever. https://www.sfgate.com/athletics/ar...orst-17012659.php?IPID=SFGate-HP-CP-Spotlight
This isn't new. The A's front office bought a copy of the Maloof playbook and they've been following it word for word for over a decade now -- sabotaging every new stadium proposal, raising prices on tickets, parking, and concessions while delivering an inferior product, bad-mouthing their own fans every chance they get, blaming everyone but themselves for all of it. They want out of Oakland so bad. The Matt Chapman trade is as much of a middle finger at all of us as the ticket prices are. I won't be surprised if they pull the plug on Howard Terminal and move into some fake grass techno dome in Vegas instead cause that's the direction they've already been pulling since the San Jose ballpark got nixed. The future is looking pretty bleak right now. We need Wild Thing and Willie Mays Hayes to come save us.

I hope you enjoy watching Seiya Suzuki on the Cubs. :) I started watching Hiroshima Carp games a few years ago and he's a total stud. I expect him to compete for MVP and silver slugger awards once he gets adjusted to MLB.
It’s interesting some are saying he could be that type of player while others say he is more likely to be Kosuke Fukudome.

I'm not the type of person who can look at swing mechanics and tell you with any degree of confidence if a swing will translate or not but in terms of what he did to NPB pitching, he's as good as any Japanese hitter that has jumped to MLB. He probably has a little less power than Ohtani but he's a better all-around hitter because he doesn't swing on pitches out of the zone and he walks as much as he strikes out. Power and plate discipline is generally a winning combination.

The weirdest thing about this latest A’s tear down is that we’ve let our great manager walk, traded away our two cornerstone all-star infielders and our opening day pitcher but still kept the rest of the starting pitchers and brought back Jed Lowrie and Stephen Vogt for some reason.

I feel like they had resolved to trade Matt Olson no matter what as he was their biggest trade chip and that trade single-handily restocked the farm system. And as for the other two, they probably both read the writing on the wall and said enough is enough. The Matt Chapman trade in particular when you consider his reaction and the return they got by selling low on his rough season at the plate seems like he low-key demanded it (ie.. "Scott Boras is my agent and I'm never re-signing here") after Olson got shipped. That might just be me projecting Josh Donaldson onto him though since both were traded under similar circumstances to the same team.

How in the world is Matt Duffy of all people hitting cleanup in a lineup that has Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon in it?! Lol
