MKG, Barnes, Beal, Robinson all done with working out.

I'm worried about the trade. Char just shipped out their SF in Maggette and brought in Gordon. Might be maneuvering for MKG/Barnes. In fact, putting a scorer like Gordon next to MKG would make some sense for them.

But they're also rumors tonight that Char will trade the pick, so who knows.

Well, Beal is probably not in the cards for Charlotte, not that he ever was, but this probably solidifies it. I still think they are going with Robinson or Barnes, but MKG is always a possibility. I just don't think MKG is sexy enough for #2 overall, as stupid as that might sound.

The Cats have very limited offensive options down low which would make me believe that they will pick Barnes to pair with Gordon in the perimeter to open up the lane for Kemba who is better at driving through the lane than shooting from the perimeter.

This would mean the Wizards will snag beal and probably the Cavs get MKG with Thompson already their PF. This could mean T-Rob is definitely the man sliding to us.

I don't see how the trade keeps Charlotte from picking Robinson though.

Yah Charlotte needs a big like no other team I have seen in a while. They are better off taking a chance at a swingman late in the draft or ufa

Here's an encouraging little blurb from Chad Ford's latest 9.3 Mock:

Cleveland:
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Position: SF
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 233 pounds
Age: 18
School: Kentucky

Analysis: We'll be going back and forth on this one right up until the draft. If the Cavs don't move up to No. 2 to take Beal, this is between Barnes and Kidd-Gilchrist. Both camps are confident their guy is the guy in Cleveland. But after hearing on Monday that Barnes was, in fact, the pick, it looks like the pendulum has swung back in MKG's direction. Both guys desperately don't want to go to Sacramento. If I'm Chris Grant, I make them go one-on-one, Kwame Brown-Tyson Chandler style, on Thursday morning.

One other scenario worth reporting: Terrence Ross will be in Cleveland on Wednesday for a private workout. He won't go No. 4. But he also won't be on the board when Cleveland picks again, at No. 24. If the Cavs can't get to No. 2, are they thinking about moving down a few spots?

Sacramento:
Harrison Barnes

Position: SF
Height: 6-foot-8
Weight: 228 pounds
Age: 20
School: North Carolina

Analysis: Someone isn't going to be very happy and it might be Barnes. Not only does he really not want to go to Sacramento, but it's possible the Kings trade this pick and he slides down even further. We think the stopping point is Golden State at No. 7, but don't be so sure (see Warriors comment below). I doubt he would slide past Toronto, though. The Raptors love, love, love Barnes at No. 8.

FOR REAL???

FOR REAL???

Does this really surprise anyone? The team is in one of the least desirable cities in the league, with the most pathetic owners, almost a decade of futility and recent issues with players happiness. We've created a cluster of a situation and now we're paying the price.

When I heard the Bobcats made the trade for Gordon the first thing that came to my mind is that they are gearing up to take Thomas Robinson. I hope that's the case. They could use a Barnes or a MKG too but this years off season appears to be ripe with available SF's and they severely need some kind of presence down low.

They will pick Barnes if they want to model their team like OKC where all gunners are from the wing and turn Biyombo and co to some sort of Ibaka-Perkins.

Well I don't know about them, but if I were a GM watching the finals my biggest takeaway would be that you absolutely NEED a post threat (unless you have LBJ and Wade, and even Bosh can be a post threat anyway). Durant is already so long and is a way better player than Barnes is ever likely to be. If Durant, with his length can't even get the ball due to good ball denial during the finals, how in the world is a lineup of Barnes, Walker and undersized Ben Gordon going to help you win a championship?

If I were Charlotte getting Ben Gordon would make me chase after a big man even more since I would have my perimeter scoring settled.

Also:

and:

I don't think Gordon is in Charlotte's longterm plans. He's just a way to get rid of Maggette and a more reliable scorer than Maggette. (Yes, Maggette is a scorer, but he and Kevin Martin were hit hardest by the rule changes.)

we've become the NBA's version of the 2005-2010 Oakland Raiders >_<

If we find ourselves in a scenario where MKG is gone and we haven't managed to work out a trade in time, I would lean towards just crossing your fingers and picking Drummond. With Drummond you have several options:

1) Keep him and pray he'll develop into something good
2) Continue to work a trade with Houston (on the basis that Orlando wants Drummond and Houston wants Dwight)
3) See if any of the other teams are interested in him and see what we can get for him

I think that this is a better alternative to picking Lillard and then being forced into making some moves. Any time that you're forced to sell you're going to end up selling low, which is exactly what will happen with us being forced to move a guard. Teams can easily lowball us and our choice would be accept it or live with a massive logjam of guards.

Or maybe I'd just pick Barnes and live with him at SF. But I would not pick Lillard, unless I already have a good deal in place to ship out one or more of the guards.

This is pretty much how I feel. I don't know why but i get a bad feeling about Barnes on this team. Id rather take a chance on the more unknown (Drummond). Dont think that happens though i can see us picking Barnes right now.

I have been doing my homework :) however i am still relatively inexperienced and have made my opinions manly based on articles and scouting reports from various websites. As you can probably tell from such insights as "I have a bad feeling about Barnes".

My list is exactly the same I think.

I will be staying up, not sure if i'll make it to our 2nd round pick tho! How/where are you watching it? I posted on 1 of the other threads it doesnt seem to be on ESPN over here so help finding a channel/stream to watch it on would be appreciated.

Gordon's contract is a year longer and about $14M heftier than Maggette's. This was not a salary dump. Clearly they intend to use him.

I agree.
When I heard about the Maggette trade my first thought was that they would be going after Robinson who gives them a player with potential to provide good post offense to combine with Gordan's outside shooting.

Then I hear about the coach liking to space the floor and it appears that Barnes might be the man.

At this point, provided that there are no trades, I think if the Bobcats take Robinson, then MKG will slip to the #5 spot.
Whether we'll still have the 5th pick seems to be the bigger concern at the moment.

Well, if it's true that Tyreke and MKG are tight, then it would make sense for MKG to be wary about this organization considering what it did to Tyreke last year. Now I want MKG on this team and paired with Tyreke, but if Tyreke was really unhappy with his role for the latter half of the season, I could see how some of that could rub off on MKG.

Good point. MKG might think they'd switch him to center to better prepare him to be a SF the next year. :)

I'm sure Tyreke's saga has spread throughout the NBA. And Cuz and Daly for what it's worth. Rightfully or wrongfully they say the coaches are screwing them over. The fact that it is "rightfully" means that people who look into this organization a little more closely will get the full picture. At first Cousins' explosion was blamed on his immaturity. Then we watch Tyreke get beaten about. And lastly we found out from Daly that he didn't want to come back here because of Westphal.

It's a sad picture because to at least 3 guys, this seemed to get personal.

I prefer MKG... but if Barnes falls to us TAKE HIM! Lets not over think things. He'll play for us...

SIMMONS: If Barnes goes over Kidd-Gilchrist, we might as well eliminate college basketball as a device to scout potential NBA prospects. Seriously. Let's just dump it. We'll save tens of millions on travel and DVD expenses.

FORD: And don't get me started on the Kings. They have five guys on their roster that care nothing for defense or chemistry and want to jack up 20 shots a night. They finally get a chance at a guy who can make a huge impact on the floor without the ball in his hands and their response is to trade the pick.

SIMMONS: They're the greatest. I wouldn't let Geoff Petrie organize a Grantland office lunch order at this point.

The only problem with that theory is that drafting MKG would solve the problem of Tyreke playing SF and make him happy again.
