Minority Owners unhappy?

30. Tension Emerges Among the Owners in Sacramento
The franchise’s minority owners have been having pointed conversations over the last few months about Vivek Ranadivé’s stewardship, per league sources, but they are powerless to do anything under the franchise’s governing documents — unless Ranadivé accepts an offer to sell his controlling stake. If the Kings continue to be unstable, look for some of this noise to become public.

Seems a bit like speculation.
Feeds Zach Lowe's narrative. He just wanted to make sure nobody forgot, you see. This is a bit like saying there has been discussion between your toddlers about mommy's vegan lifestyle and the resulting lack of Mac n' Cheese. Its completely 100% irrelevant (aside from mom spoiling your childhood). They can't do anything about it. The minority owners could scream, stamp, set themselves on fire or anything else and it wouldn't matter in the least. Its no more relevant than us being upset about it. Maybe less so, because we at least can punish Vivek financially, while the minority owners trying that would just be hurting themselves.

As a fan I was infuriated by the firing of Malone, the hiring of Corbin, the firing of Corbin, the hiring of Karl and then the rumors of firing Karl. I can only imagine how much more upset I'd be if I actually owned a share of the team and was on the hook for the costs (or at the very least the lack of profits) of those decisions. And I'd be apoplectic about the notion of paying for yet another coach if Karl was fired.

The minority owners had every reason to be angry. NOTHING positive was coming out about the Kings last year. Front office dysfunction. A GM who clearly didn't even understand the roster he put together. A meddling owner. An unhappy all-star center. A historically awful bench. Behind the scenes power struggles and blame games. Yet another disappointing top 10 pick. Yet another sub 30 win season.

I'd be livid about Vivek's management of the team up until the end of last season. He'd spent much more money and had no more success than the last years of the Maloofs when they were actively trying to move the team and cut costs at the expense of actually winning games. Personally I wished that Burkle and Mastrov had bought the team. I didn't see how anyone could be this disastrous as an owner unless they were trying to torpedo the team. I was getting to the point where I was almost waiting for them to trade Cousins before I checked out as a Kings fan for a while.

But just like me I'm guessing the minority owners are feeling much better about things now. Because while Vivek has certainly done some positive things on the business side of the Kings (the new arena looks to be fantastic, much better marketing efforts etc) the reality is that in my mind he's made exactly two good basketball moves. Resigning Cousins and hiring Vlade.

So I would agree that Lowe's piece is outdated junk IF (and only if) Vivek continues to let Vlade handle the basketball side of things moving forward.

Winning cures all ills.

I can't see how the minority owners are complaining about the job Vlade is doing, especially since many of them were part owners of the team during the Magoof era.

Give Vlade a chance and Vivek will be vindicated for his decisions.

I didn't realize this was that old... I was surprised that owners would be unhappy with the job that the current FO is doing... Shame on RealGM for putting this old "story" (really a prediction/speculation) out there with their current stories.

I really don't care.

We're either going to start winning and be a playoff team, which will cure much of the nonsense and change the national narrative, or we'll lose which likely would be a byproduct of dysfunction in the locker room, which would mean same 'ol Kings as usual and the national narrative will continue. It's on us to give the media a different story line.

But no one owes us anything. We've been a train wreck since 07. Had a good off season but now it's on Vlade, Karl and the boys in the locker room to go out and prove we're a winner.

The only thing that matter is the playoffs.

I think your last sentence is the critical one. Vivek needs to GTFO of basketball decisions and leave them to others. And so far this year it looks like he is doing so.

What's funny about Vivek is that he has traits of both a really awful owner, and a good one.

He wants to win, he's enthusiastic about the team, and he's willing to spend. Awesome.

He's also a fool when it comes to basketball, easily led, a control freak, and impatient.

As long as Vlade keeps him in check, we'll be fine. But if he was ousted, I wouldn't exactly be heartbroken.... although that would be more off court distraction.

There's only 2 outcomes. Playoffs or bust.

This franchise can't afford to bust. A lot is riding on Vlade after he essentially just traded our future drafts away.
Well, he really only traded one draft pick away. The pick going to Chicago was already spent. Philly has one option to swap (two if we do so poorly we don't give a pick to Chicago) and even if in the most magical of scenarios they have a worse pick than us, it's not likely to be by much.

Maybe I'm the optimist, but I just don't see us crashing and burning anyway.

I think a 41+ season in the West is acceptable even if we don't make the playoffs, it shows we have something to work with and are probably one decent rotation player away from a playoffs spot.

Can't wait for this team to break past 40 wins just so we can all thumb our noses at this meathead.
Did we thumb our noses at ourselves the last how many years the Kings didn't crack 30?

He's obviously a little too obsessed with Cousins' penchant for lollygagging and being petulant, as well as a little too obsessed with the Kings front office disarray. But that obsession has turned out to be "right" so far, so it's hard to criticize too vehemently.

In conclusion, you mean, let basketball people handle the basketball things? How novel!
