CLEVELAND -- Mike Brown was honored as the NBA's coach of the year Monday after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to their greatest regular season.

He guided the club to a franchise-record 66 wins, a second Central Division title and the No. 1 overall seed in the postseason. Cleveland leads the Detroit Pistons 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs.

Certainly not awarded for doing the most with the least. ;)

Although you look at that roster beyond LeBron and it certainly isn't screaming 66 wins. Of course when you;ve got that megastar, as he goes, the team goes, and maybe you don't really have to look at the rest of the roster that closely.

As an aside, Rick nabbed the #2 spot, which was richly deserved after all the crap he had to put up with to keep that team in contention this year. Oddly neither Natt nor Reggie placed. Nor Muss for that matter.

The title should have been "Lebron James wins Mike Brown Coach of the Year"

I voted Doc because I like him a ton and get to watch a lot of Celtics games. They played above there head without KG and helped further develope Rondo, Perkins, and BigBaby Davis.

Adelman also did a incredible job with that team losing Tmac all year and dealing with the Artest show.

Then there is George Karl, who wasnt on the poll but I think I would have voted for him above any of these guys. That team gets no respect. They got the 2 seed in the west this year and I dont think there roster is all that great.

i voted for adelman, using the criterion of "if you replaced the coach, which team would suffer the most?" to me it was a race between rick, mike brown, and george karl; brown and karl clearly got a boost from the right personnel (mo williams and chauncey respectively) and didn't suffer an extended injury to a major player (T-Mac).

I really thought Adelman should have won... how hard is Brown's job? "Hey, Lebron, Sir, would you please go win the game now? Thanks... Here is some more gatorade, sir and let me know if you want any substitutions made"

I have to agree with the choice of Brown. His team beyond Lebron has been a scrambled mess over the last few years... I think the fact that the team seemingly stays out of trouble and seems to jell so well is a big testament to Browns work. Lebron gets alot of credit for sure being that he is a great character guy and a great example to his teammates... I just think Brown is finally getting the credit he deserves for keeping everything steady and on the up and up...

Well, certainly Adelman deserved 2nd and Stan Van Gundy got 3rd in the balloting - but who should have REALLY won? I don't think there was a clear cut, obvious choice, and I guess Mike Brown would have been on my top 5 ballot if I had a vote. So, if I was voting on COF I would have probably had Rick and Jerry Sloan as my top 2. May of went with Sloan since he's never won it and I think been runner up 3-4 times. Kind of ironic that our former head guy and almost became our head guy were 2nd-3rd in the voting.

Of course my vote would have gone to Adelman.

Unfortunately, Coach of the Year voting is even more shallow than MVP voting is anymore. It's become a pretty simple equation to figure out who gets it the past few years. I don't think Mike Brown is by any means undeserving, but I don't think that he was most deserving either, great season notwithstanding.

I think it's pretty crazy that Don Nelson has three COY awards, and Phil Jackson only has one. And I'm not a huge Phil Jackson fan, but compared to Nellie?

I actually had George Karl on the poll, accidently deleted him and then forgot about him. :o

Anyways, I think you are right.. that team does get no respect; But I don't feel Karl should have won COY. The Front Office, however, deserves an award for trading away Camby/Iverson and bringing in Billups.

doc rivers won last season, and, like boston last season, the cavaliers had the best record in the nba this season. that said, mike brown was the obvious and incredibly safe choice for COY...

the nba is usually very conservative with its awards, so it would not have been difficult to predict this. but i think the more bold choice of rick adelman would have been more celebrated league-wide, as adelman is a highly-regarded coach around the nba, and one worth affirming...

I pretty much agree with the choice of Brown being coach of the year. Defense is one of the harder things in basketball to get guys to buy into and Brown got them to buy into it. Cavaliers is one of the better defensive teams in the league today credited to not just Lebron, but coach Brown also has a lot to do with it.

Doc Rivers wasn't the COY last year. I made that mistake last week. Byron Scott won it.

Losing TMac was a blessing. The guy is gutless.

that may be, but it annoys me that coaches get "awarded" based on rosters usually given to them by the GM. you remove lebron from the cavs and do they still buy into the defense? if KG never showed up to boston two years ago, are they still known for their defense??

ah, i see...

my mistake...

i guess choosing mike brown is about right, then, considering they went with the outta-nowhere coach in byron scott last year...

the hornets definitely weren't on people's radars last season, so it was a good pick...

dunno why i thought doc won it...

my intuition sucks...

;)

The Hornets finished second in the West last year, and it came down to the last day of the season. I wouldn't say that they weren't on the radar last season, or that Scott was the "outta-nowhere" coach either. Maybe before the season, and considering how well they did, I do think that Scott was the right choice.

that's what i was referring to...

given expectations, the hornets overachieved...

byron scott was the right choice, precisely because no one would have predicted that the hornets would play nearly as well as they did last season...

I've got no problem with Mike Brown getting COY. He made the most of a good situation and his team is on track to meet the Lakers for the big prize. That's COY worthy to me. And the fact it's not Phil Jackson doesn't hurt.

:)

I was actually hoping Rick Adelman or Nate McMillan win the award but Mike Brown deserves it to. Congratulations to him.
