Mavs @ Kings Game Thread

While I LOVE THIS TEAM, I have to acknowledge that the Mavs are a better team than the Kings. Having said that, I think we lose this game whether Kevin plays or not. So, the best thing would be to rest his ankle so he will be stronger when he comes back. No use playing on a very sore ankle against a team we are not likely to beat anyway.

as much as martin has improved this isnt 5 martins against the starting lineup of the mavericks. we have very weak links. some teams have a great starting five, but they lose games when they go to their bench. the kings would still have this record if the starters had endurance like rip hamilton and played a full 48 minutes.

We're going to miss his offense and his ability to spread the floor. Remember, Dallas is an excellent defensive team.

The problem is that they ARE a good defensive team. Shutting down Martin over the past couple of weeks has consisted of putting a man on him that won't leave.

The majority of Martin's points come off of defensive lapses. Transition baskets and wide open shots.

While we will certainly miss those easy baskets, I'm not sure how many he'll get on a team that will devote energy to him.

We are a better team with Martin than we are without, as he is actually a pretty good perimeter defender.

Not sure I agree there about the defense. He's better than Bibby, but who isn't? Salmons is a far better defender than Martin.

Though, like it was said before by someone else, even with Martin I don't like our chances.

Nor do I. We don't match up well.

* JT is a better, quicker Mike Bibby with the ability to penetrate and get good looks. He'll be able to get to the rim at will on Bibby.
* We've got no answer for Dirk out of the post. None of our interior players play great man-defense outside and KT is just too short.
* Josh Howard might be a nightmare for Artest. Perimeter defense is not Ron's best asset and Josh is a great penetrator. He's not the matchup I'd choose for a larger, slower Artest.
* Two legit big guys (7') in Dampier and Diop. They're big and bulky and should pose real issues on the offensive boards.(Especially Dampier)

Only chance we have in this game is to play mistake-free team ball and get high percentage shots. On defense, we will need to try to at least play the best man defense we've played all year, because if we're forced to rotate on this team, we won't be able to get position back for rebounds or defense.

I am soooo happy today because i just finished 3 finals back to back to back (with 1 hour break each). 3 hours each test. i was out of the house by 6am and i just came back about 9pm. I'm sooo glad that all those tests are over with and my "hell monday," as i like to call it, is OVERRRR!

Now, let's get some Kings basketball going!

We will win tonight!!!!

:D:D:D

GO KINGS!!!!!

Last time we played the Mavs, Martin scored 13 points in only 20 minutes off of only 6 shots. He's got a nice assortment of one-on-one moves, so not sure I agree with the "only open shots" statement.

He does have a tendency to disappear on offense and become unaggressive when the team doesn't set him up for plays or if he misses a few shots in a row, however.

Not sure I agree there about the defense. He's better than Bibby, but who isn't? Salmons is a far better defender than Martin.

Salmons is the second best defender on this team, after Ron. I'd say Martin's third best on the perimeter because of his length and quickness. He'd be useful against Devin Harris today, because I'm not sure Salmons is quick enough to stay with him. Not saying that Martin can, but he has a better chance than Salmons.

Other than that, I agree with what you said. The Mavs are a matchup nightmare for this team. Adding to what you said, Devin Harris is simply too quick for anybody on this team to guard, and with no shotblocker at the basket, that means either a layup, or a defensive collapse in the paint, translating to open threes.

We need a shotblocker.

i like salmons defense. artest didnt win dpoy for nothing. the guys a great defender. can guard big guys and small guys. so there's not 1 player in this league artest cant slow down. josh howard needs more attention than terry and harris in my opinion. josh howard is just annoying. scoring off putbacks and easy back door layups. open 3's off a terry drive and kick. just annoying plays like that kill us. i agree with romans assessment of martin. he's a great open court player, but this is exactly what separates him from the aptitude of a true shooting guard. we saw the same thing in peja. he'll usually fold under pressure. there have been times where martin has beaten the pressure; however we need to see that more often if he's going to help this team make the playoffs

honeslty i wanna say this teams ugly but i dont think it has to said... pretty much the whole world knows now!!! :(

honeslty are like ****ing serious??? what the **** is this? my under 7's team can play better d than this...

god we suck more than we did b4...
