Martin, Garcia, Trades = Possible 8th seed?

If the Kings can play .500 ball or better by the time we get Martin and Garcia back and GP makes the right trades before the deadline, can the Kings make a playoff push for the 8th spot?

The Kings mightve dug themselves too deep a whole to climb out of but I think with Martin, Sisco, and the right trades its possible. Everything would have to go right with little room for error.

Evans
Martin
Casspi
?/ JT
?/ Hawes

JT - I'm ok if JT is a backup or gets traded if Geoff brings in a better player. If not I'm fine with JT starting.
Hawes - I like Hawes but he's not ready to start yet. I'd like to keep Hawes as a back up C but Geoff needs to trade for a starting C (Okafor) without trading Hawes.

Bench
Udrih Garcia Rodriguez
Garcia Greene Udoka
Greene Noc Garcia Udoka
JT Brockman Greene Noc Hawes KT
Hawes Brockman

My trade list: (from "ok with" to "no not him")
May - "ok with"
KT - "ok with"
Noc - "ok with"
Rodriguez - "ok with"
Udoka - keep for defensive substitutions while adding occasional offense in limited minutes but... "ok with"
JT - "ok with" and "no not him" lol
Hawes - same as JT.
Udrih - "no not him" but if we had to he's the first out of the "no not him" players
Greene - "no not him" but if we had to he's second out of the "no not him" players
Martin - "no not him" but if we had to he's third out of the "no not him" players
Brockman - "no not him" he should be the 2nd big man off the bench and sometimes 1st in front of Hawes.
Garcia - "no not him" can bring the ball up the court and call plays while playing the 2 or the 3, scrapper, hustles, good defender, good scorer, leader and team player.
Casspi - "NO NOT THEM" lol
Tyreke

i wouldve thought so before we hit our little losing streak... but we still play the warriors twice, bobcats twice, sixers and wizards... we can beat the nuggets and maybe the hawks. if we get lucky and split a game with the magic we can be close to .500 by the end of the month and then maybe we can make a push when everyone is healthy.

i dont think that we will but we can... i hope that we do, but i doubt that it will happen... we can take the lakers in a 7 game series with a healthy roster...

As far as I'm concerned, if a trade will make sense to help the Kings transform into a contender, ala the Celtics a few years ago...if it means making a big trade involving a couple of your best players to acquire someone bigger and better, you HAVE to! The trade I'd like to see is for Bosh...the players I have no problem trading are core guys like Martin and Noc(especially if we're getting Bosh in return) Imagine a lineup of:

Bosh
Thompson
Greene
Casspi
Evans

with the bench being:
Beno
Cisco
Brockman
Hawes
Udoka

edit: that's ALOT of energy on both sides of the bench.

We may have to move JT for Bosh.

And the big fear there is that he'll just walk at season's end.

I almost think that a lesser, defensive big, would help us even more than the 20/12 Bosh would though. Emeka or Dalembert. We wouldnt have to give up nearly as much, and our teams defense should improve. Which means we'd start winning those close games (assuming they're even still close..muhaha). KT's expiring plus Cisco could maybe get us one of those guys (may have to throw in a pick).

Reke
Martin
Casspi
JT
Emeka (or Dalembert)

That there is a starting 5 I could get behind.

I'd rather have Bosh at the 5...and if he came here, who's to say he wouldnt re-sign with us, we have a bunch of money to use on a top notch free agent, might as well use it on our own, if we were to get him, he would be worth it IMO. I dont want to trade Cisco, he's a team player and provides energy, outside shooting and ballhandling off the bench, I'd rather us trade Martin, Noc and K9 to get Bosh.

I really think that we need to wait and see how KMart will adjust himself to the new situation in the organisation.
He for sure didnt expect the team to develop so well and grow together.

If he still thinks he needs to take every night 30 shots than i´d rather trade him and let the young guys develop.
On the other side he is a real scorer, which means that many teams will concentrate on guarding him and will automatically open some space for other players to score easily and get open shots.

The question is if he really understood and accepts that basketball is a team sport and not an individual statistic center.
He should also understand that by becoming a better team player his value in the NBA will rise.

I´d rather have him making 20 ppg and pass the ball more often since we have some good guys that can also score-if not CIAO BELLA!
Dont want to see the type of Bball we saw last year again.

How would ya'll think about a trade of nocioni, sergio rodriguez and spencer hawes for okafor and hilton armstrong(2.8 mil expiring)

The hornets WILL NOT trade emkeka or d west just for the fun of it or for expiring contracts since we wouldnt be under the cap anyway since we are about 20 mil over the salary cap. We would need a young big with potential back in the trade or get rid of poseys contract and i know yall dont want poseys contract so the best thing for both teams imo would be hawes coming to new orleans.

As far as the thread title goes, I highly doubt we make the playoffs. If we had won some of these close games I would say maybe .. A few big wins against contenders might tempt Petrie into making a big time deal, but with our record getting worse as the season goes on, I dont see us making that 'big splash' trade this season. I hope and expect Nocioni to be out of here by the deadline though.

To thread starter -- yes, potentially. And its been discussed on here again and again. Problem is it has to be the right trades, impact trades (especially to get bigs), and as far as making the playoffs the earlier the better. We've alreayd dropped 5-10 games that could maybe have been turned in a perfect world with a perfect trade. The longer you go before those moves are made, the deeper the hole, until eventually only a miracle supertrade could get you into the playoffs.

Which isn't exactly shocking. Coming into this season thinking we were going to have 4/5 of last year's starting lineup + maybe 1 Tyreke, if he even worked out, people were thinking we would be lucky to make 25 wins. Even now with the revival, we are so young that a playoff run would be shocking and incredibly promising for the future. So not making it is hardly a failure.

If we were willing to pay I'm sure he'd stay. Worst case is he'd leave in another sign and trade. It would probably behoove us to acquire him before his new contract for the sake of making the numbers work without a half dozen throw in players.

But what's to say we couldn't still grab an Okafor or other defensive big too?

I'd like to keep Cisco around at least long enough to evaluate whether he pairs up with Reke better than Beno when you want two ball handlers on the floor.

Yup...that's what I keep telling my non-Kings fans friends (most of them are Laker fans:mad:). I get some grief for all the close losses we've had but really, after last season and what we all (or most of us) expected at the start of this season, I already see this as a pretty good season. Now next year, we better make the post-season!!!:D
