James, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: making the playoffs in this season is the worst possible outcome.
 
Maybe there are enough fans out there that actually want us to tank to out-weigh the fans that want us to win and the result is the opposite effect.

So if everybody hops on the SuperTank Bandwagon does that mean we will win a championship?










Or does it just mean more frustration because of a bad draft pick leading to bad off-season moves and more treading water with a mediocre everything.............:rolleyes: ...........?
 
Let's get the first pick AND win the championship! :D

Of course, we are too good for the first and not good enough for the latter...but at least with the way things are going, we can hope for the first when we're losing and the second when we're on a win streak...
 
Ya know--it takes a special fan to want their team to lose! It somehow goes against everything I stand for. This team hasn't given up and it is sad to see so many fans giving up. There has to be more to being a fan than just winning. Wish my grampa was around so I could talk this out; so will just keep rooting for the Kings and let the cards fall where they may. Annie.

Of course, there's more to being a fan than winning.

I don't actively root for losses. But I'm not upset by them right now, either. If this team could get a reasonably high draft pick, with the potential for a franchise-changing player for my team, why would I not want to hope for that, at this point?

If losing now gives my team the chance to get back to contending status sooner, is it wrong to hope that can help us, as its clearly helped other franchises?

What do fans (IMO) hold onto when their team is mediocre and has no chance of going all the way? Hope, that's what. The hope that the team will get better and acheive the goal, the glory that we all want.

If losing now gives my beloved Kings the chance to get back to contending status sooner, why is it so wrong to hope that losing could actually help us in the long term as it has clearly helped other franchises?

And I'm not talking about "tanking" as in intentionally losing. I'm talking about being bad enough to lose outright. Unfortunately, we may not be bad enough or good enough.

We might just be stuck in the doldrums of the NBA ocean, no wind to push us in any direction. I want to feel the joy again of full sails, flying over the water and a chance to make it to the destination. (All right, that was my sappiness for today....maybe for the season.:p )
 
i'm tired of all this "real" fan crap, it's getting on my nerves. i'm totally with vf21 on this issue, who's to say who's a real fan? people are fans in different ways and there is no right or wrong way to go about it.

i am a fan that isn't satisfied with a team not aimed at being a championship contender (whether it's now or in the future), i'm fine with a team that's taking the right path and doing all that is necessary to become that in the future but not a team that only plans on being content with the 8th seed and a first round exit (which is our ceiling). i hate patchwork and being content with mediocrity. i like plans that build toward something big not just build towards mediocrity and hope that something bigger comes falling into our laps. i respect people that have the courage to just outright say what's taboo and that's "i want losses". while it may be illogical to some people, it makes perfect sense to me to want a team that has no shot at the championship to have a better shot at the prizes of this exceptional draft. it doesn't make them bad fans, just that they have a different perspective on what's better for the kings.

If "all fans are equal" why are people being insulted if they pick a "cheer the team on" or a "tank now" attitude?

I suspect that although we may say all fans are equal, few really accept that.

I think you've done an excellent job of expressing how some fans view the current team. I'm torn on a daily basis. I want my Kings to do well. I want the players to look like they're having fun, just like the golden days. I want to see fans cheering and enjoying themselves.

But a part of me knows this current group of players is a jigsaw puzzle that cannot ever be properly put together because some of the key pieces are wrong. They may be puzzle pieces but they aren't puzzle pieces for the big picture we're hoping to assemble... So, even though there are the right numbers of pieces some of them will have to be exchanged for other pieces.

Does that make sense?

I have loved this team since the very beginning and I hate what's happening to them right now because, as has been mentioned in another thread, the players are doing what they're supposed to do. They're trying to find a way to win games. You cannot fault them for that and you certainly can't fault the fans who want to root them on.

We're caught in a true conundrum. We have the worst of both worlds. We still have players who are capable of putting together wins, especially against weakened teams and yet we're still in the running to possibly snag a franchise player in one of the richest drafts in recent memory.

Only time will tell which way things are going to go. But I do firmly believe the front office is even more aware of this than we may want to believe.

I've been told many times that team owners/management cannot make long-term decisions based on fan reaction. This is going to be one of those times that puts that assumption to a real test.

Bottom line?

GO KINGS!!!

That's easy. It's because fans are passionate about their beliefs and they want to believe their particular attitude is the correct one. That's part of human nature.

What we strive to do around here is maintain a forum where passionate fans can discuss these issues without resorting to name-calling, insults, flame fests, etc. It's not easy, but we do our best... And I think, for the most part, our board stands head and shoulders above most others in this regard.

As I said above, a lot of fans fluctuate between one extreme and the other because it's a turbulent time to be a Kings fan. It's all good, though, because just the fact we're still here debating it proves we still care about the Sacramento Kings.

He didn't say nor even imply that. What he (meaning Bricklayer) was referring to was the belief the Kings will win all the games in February. That's pretty pie-in-the-sky at any time, let alone when a team has been struggling as much as the Kings.

Or maybe Brick just meant he wasted his brainstem reading the thread. :p In which case, it is an opinion only he is qualified to state with any authority. ;) (In case the emoties don't do it, I'm joking and in no way am I qualified to interpret Brick's comments.:D )

I route for the team when it plays well and wins, and then I slap myself for routing for the never-ending purgatory that it brings....

Just to clarify -

The brain stem controls basic physiological processes such as heart rate, respiration, blood pressure and the like. The pre-frontal cortex is the part of the brain responsible for reasoning, abstract thought and judgment. Even very primitive animals with no reasoning abilities at all have a brain stem. The pre-frontal cortex is reserved for higher ordered primates (and perhaps dolphins).

I'd give it about one more game...our NEXT game, in fact. I think the Bulls will win. If not, my bad, but I do think that Loul Deng and Co. are going to run it up against us.

depends what the insult is. i may disagree with some here, but doesn't mean i'm calling them bad fans.
