Marcus Williams? (merged)

Marcus Williams waived

Is he worth a look? I say no right now. I would've said yes last year though, but he hasn't worked out now for 2 different teams..
I remember being devastated that Petrie didn't pick him back then. Now, he is one of the few players available that I don't mind not being picked instead of Douby. I don't think he'd work out here, either, but if the Kings were to pick a big man in the draft, why not try? Can't hurt too much.

He plays like a complete bonehead on the court. He completely delves towards his weaknesses--he keeps shooting even when he can't shoot, and he doesn't pass often despite the fact that he can pass. You can see the latent talent in his court vision and passing ability. But as long as he keeps playing selfish basketball while flaring up all of his weaknesses at once, he's not going to be in the league. Not to mention that he can't play defense and he's not too athletic--those combined with his lackadaisical attitude and perceived baggage are enough to banish him away from the league.

Unfortunately, talented players with bad reputations and selfish games never tend to die out immediately, and they'll always be roped back to the NBA in minimum contracts just to see if the team can tap into any of their potential. I mean, even after he was terrible in New Jersey, GS actually sacked a 1st (!) round pick for him, due to his "potential." Williams was once perceived as a lottery pick, was perceived as pure point guard in college and could actually pass the ball, and that alone will garner him at least training camp invite. But I think he'll slowly fade away into obscurity

I admit, I wanted Petrie to draft either him or Rajon Rondo to replace the aging Mike Bibby, but I was also aware of the issues that made him drop quite severely on draft day--inconsistent jumper, conditioning/injury problems, baggage, bad defense, lack of athleticism. I mean, those are already a lot of cons for a player that was to be drafted that high, so there was already some bust potential with him. Not surprisingly, he became a bust. But I wanted him because he could actually pass the ball, and we needed someone like that. But it turns out that he even refuses to pass the ball, and unfortunately he can't really do anything else well. So I was wrong about him.

Marcus Williams?

Cut today from the Warriors: Little-used Williams gets cut

He hardly played at all this season, but he had some good games for the Nets the past two seasons and was quite highly regarded as a playmaker coming out of college. Should we be interested with Beno currently sidelined? Not that we're trying to win games here or anything, but Williams could be a decent backup next season after Bobby Jackson leaves.

well its about time someone did this thread......but he could come in and be a starter. The kings always had tons of interest in him. He was valued so much from the nets that, when we inquired about him, they asked for kevin martin! When the nets offered VC+filler for Corey Mobley and Livingston... clippers said no because they wanted marcus

Your point? I mean, it IS the Clippers.

Marcus Williams? No thanks. I'd rather wait for some kids who haven't shown every wart and wrinkle with very little upside to what they can bring to the table...

And I'm not sure the Kings ever showed "tons of interest" in him. None of us really know what exchanges, if any, took place between the Nets and the Kings, so to state something like that as fact is just misleading IMHO.

Same here I wanted Petrie to draft him instead of Douby. He had a decent rookie year for NJ, but had an injury iirc, and just disappeared. It's clear dude's head is not in the right place.

If he's cheap, I'd still be interested in him next year. That is if we don't draft a PG. I'd prefer taking a chance on him over Petrie signing another undrafted tweener guard like he's done in the past.

How?? He slipped past us in the draft. If we were always interested in him we would've drafted him.

I say we should try him out... the guy averaged 7 ppg and 3 apg in only 16 mpg in his rookie year...this year he's been cast aside by the warriors and plagued with injures but with decent minutes on the floor he might be able to out preform Beno... Overall its not like its a franchise changing move or anything so i could really care less either way.

Is this your argument as to why we didnt have tons of interest in him? Obviously GP thought douby was a better fit and pick for the squad and iirc we tried to get an addition late draft pick to nab Marcus. The notion that because we didnt draft him we didnt have tons of interest in him is silly imho.

We all know how Petrie drafts, he's anti PG's and pro 'versitle' players. And lets not forget how douby was drafted.....he displayed a 'shooting clinic' at ONE particular workout for the kings!

But, we cant say either or would have been a better pick because they both are off their teams roster as of right now. But I say we should bring him in. And we will.

+1

and iirc he is still on his rookie contract, and with the cba rules if we bring him in and sign him we take his contract from the W's

I personally don't remember hearing about Petrie being very interested in Marcus Williams. We never even worked him out. I'm not saying you're wrong because you sound like you know what you're talking about, I just don't remember it.

Anyway I guess it wouldn't hurt if he could be had for cheap. No MLE though, and nothing longer than a 2 year contract.

he was very good his rookie year. Remember him averaging something like 23 ppg in a week when he was thrust into the starting role due to injuries. won't remind anybody of magic, but he hasn't shot anybody or had a baby mama accuse him of various infidelities. if you can get him for the minimum why the hell not? you are the worst team in the NBA with Beno Udrih and Solomon as your PGs? Sure, williams is a guy who couldn't beat out Nelson (anybody here thought he would be starting for an NBA team? anybody?) for the starting PG spot, but he was in Nellie's **** from DAY 1. the more i read about Nellie, the more i'm definitely convinced he's a ****ing nutcase. Sitting down Biedrins so he could test out the youth. the youth is a walking double double perfectly suited to your system and you're sitting him! don't judge williams based on his GS stint. what do you have to lose by trying him out?
