He plays like a complete bonehead on the court. He completely delves towards his weaknesses--he keeps shooting even when he can't shoot, and he doesn't pass often despite the fact that he can pass. You can see the latent talent in his court vision and passing ability. But as long as he keeps playing selfish basketball while flaring up all of his weaknesses at once, he's not going to be in the league. Not to mention that he can't play defense and he's not too athletic--those combined with his lackadaisical attitude and perceived baggage are enough to banish him away from the league.
Unfortunately, talented players with bad reputations and selfish games never tend to die out immediately, and they'll always be roped back to the NBA in minimum contracts just to see if the team can tap into any of their potential. I mean, even after he was terrible in New Jersey, GS actually sacked a 1st (!) round pick for him, due to his "potential." Williams was once perceived as a lottery pick, was perceived as pure point guard in college and could actually pass the ball, and that alone will garner him at least training camp invite. But I think he'll slowly fade away into obscurity
I admit, I wanted Petrie to draft either him or Rajon Rondo to replace the aging Mike Bibby, but I was also aware of the issues that made him drop quite severely on draft day--inconsistent jumper, conditioning/injury problems, baggage, bad defense, lack of athleticism. I mean, those are already a lot of cons for a player that was to be drafted that high, so there was already some bust potential with him. Not surprisingly, he became a bust. But I wanted him because he could actually pass the ball, and we needed someone like that. But it turns out that he even refuses to pass the ball, and unfortunately he can't really do anything else well. So I was wrong about him.
