Marcos Breton: Sacramento Kings are fun again

Wow, did you guys read the comments beneath the article? Lots of non-Kings fan Sacramento residents with pent-up hate against the Maloofs and the organization.

I've never been a fan of Breton, but kudo's for this article. Its nice to see an article in the Bee suggesting that people go and check out the new team. As far as what non-kings fans think, I could care less. After listening to some of the sacramento city council meetings, I came to the conclusion that a lot of these people would love to go back to the horse and buggy days.

It's like that every time a Kings related article is printed. The Bee comments section is filled with trolls and very angry and negative people no matter what the article or topic.

One comment below the article:
We got rid of the WNBA Princesses or whatever they were called, now lets get these other royal losers on the next Hummer out of town.

And another:
What kind of farcical fantasty world do you sportos and barely sober old sots live in that you think that the Kings, of all things, would be 'central to life in the Valley'????

And of course the ever popular:
they owe 70 million and have to pay it back if they move, otherwise it sits there as money owed

And the cherry on the sundae:
The Kings have been a poverty-pleading blood-sucking deadbeat organization constantly seeking a handout from the public trough, now aided and abetted by a former basketballer of questionable integrity and certain moral turpitude in our mayor...

edit: Bravo!! Bravo!! Its people like this that are the most misinformed finger pointers when they know absolutely NOTHING about what's going on due to the fact that they only pay attention to this team once every 5 years, or when we're winning 60 games and feuding with that team from Los Angeles. This is the main reason why we need a strong mayor in this city, because as long as there are people that know nothing about what they're reading/watching other than what the talking heads tell them(and that's a bunch of hot air, even at that)...the strong mayor would bring a concrete plan into fruition and wouldn't allow Debbie Downers to open their mouths about a subject they haven't paid any attention to in YEARS! The bottom line is that these people couldn't give a damn whether we have a young and competitive team or whether we're losing 60 games a year, it's all the same to them, they'd rather Sacramento crawl back into it's Anne Rudin/Heather Fargo 1970's unprogressive coma that it was in, and return to being a sleepy cowtown with nothing exciting going on.

I'm actually glad you guys hit upon those comments -- I almost did not post this article because of them and was going to make a comment myself (mostly about eschewing my normal intellectual superiority schtick long enoguh to kick some teeth in :p). Even accounting for the normal number of Lakers trolls or whatever, thought the comments there really revealed that deep well of pure poison that seemed to spring up in the past decade in Sacto. I feel sorry for those of you that have to consider those people your neighbors. I also urge you it fight the good fight against that kind of venom and not get intimidated by it. Amusingly...well not amusing exactly since people who hate so blindly are just a blight that can never be reasoned with, but anyway, 4-5 years ago Breton himself was stoking those poisonous fires with a long series of hit pieces on the Maloofs. Seemed to experience some sort of abrupt change of heart back there, I think maybe when he realized he might actually succeed in chasing the Kings from town, but I still found the article ironic because of it.

Most of those idiotic comments are coming from one person, who uses various screen names. He trolls that forum constantly, which has driven many people to stop posting over there.

Wrong response alas. As its the website of Sacramento's main newspaper, those comments get taken as some sort of barometer of local public sentiment.

Somebody should write the editors there and ask them if all the IPs match. Of course the feeling has long been that the editors there may actually encourage such nonsense.

Kings are definitely fun again, that's for sure.

Gee, I hope Petrie doesn't bite for Nate Robinsons recent trade request to make them even more fun, lol. It says in the Yahoo article about Robinson that Kings had an eye on him for a while, but a trade seems "doubtful" now. Ha!

Now I'm hoping we can pack ARCO a bit tighter to bring the Kings atmosphere back to the city

I know for a fact that there is one or possibly two who monopolize the comments over there (I've posted over there for a long time - as irritating as it can be sometimes). One of the worst was finally blocked from posting after many complaints, though we know that it is all too easy to begin posting again by using a different screen name. I don't know if they have gone so far as tracking IP addresses, but it is obvious that they have chosen to not push the issue, thus the continued dilemma. That's why I love posting over here (though I still post over there from time to time).

On the Bee comments section:

The negativity really spans all topic areas. My wife and I have actually made it a sick kind of entertainment in the past. Find a nice, heart-warming story and see a reader turn it into a diatribe on why the government is corrupt, people on welfare are lazy, the Maloofs are parasites feeding off Sacramento etc. I am not sure what is scarier, the anger and negativity or the shear, unadulterated ignorance.

I have my own vision of who these people are and they all closely resemble the Michael Douglas character from "Falling Down."

You guys may be happy to know that is not just Sacramento. The Oregonian comment pages make my eyes bleed, some of our tv stations' web sites are even worse, on just about any topic.

Sadly, you're right. I have done my fair share of political work (well more volunteer really) and used to go check the comments beneath every article. However, you realize very quickly, whether it's sports, politics, movies, etc. you rarely ever get any stimulating discussion, it's mostly those fervently for or against the [fill in the blank topic] that post extreme comments. You can save yourself a lot of frustration by just skipping them all together.

Best course of action. No matter the topic, it seems it's just an excuse for certain kinds of people to vomit hate and negativity. Its a pointless activity to try and have any serious exchange. I try to not read them and rarely read the Bee online, because of the spewing vitriol of the commenters.

And you are right, Brick. Breton was a huge contributor to creating the anti-Maloof feelings that seem to run so deep now.
