Marco has got to go... but for who? and how?

This guy is lost... rock bottom of his career... he's jacking 5!!! 3pt fg's a game! all while shooting a career low 32% from 3.

He ranks as one of the worst (if not THE worst) defensive player in the league...


I have no idea what happened to this guy.. He looked good playing for his country during the summer, and the preseason.... but......He's getting worse every game now. At some point a band-aid isn't enough and its time for a tourniquet!!!

He needs to go. we need a 3 and D guy stat!!!

but for who? and how?

With all the attention that he draws there should be some weak side action when he comes off of screens to counter when teams overreact to him, similar to what the Warriors do with the Curry/Bogut lobs, put the defense in a position to pick their poison. Instead most times guys just stand around.
 
Marco just isn't good at shooting contested shots. He's money from 3 when he's wide up as a catch and shoot player, but not creating off of the dribble. I don't know if he's lost a step or if we're setting bad screens or what, but we need to find a way to get him easier shots. That said, i'm all for trading him if we can find a someone we want in return, but unfortunately what we need is a shooter, which is exactly what Marco is supposed to be...

And what way would that be. With the Spurs he was more of a spot up shooter. We're running him off of screens. The jury is still out on using him that way. But, so far, he's been very inconsistent. Who knows, maybe he has tired legs from playing this past summer. Whatever the reason, he's not helping at all if his offense sucks, because his defense is poor at best. We're trying to win now, not tomorrow. We're forty games into the season and patience is starting to run out.

Almost every shot he took last night was an off balance shot. When he finally had a wide open three, he missed. He's out there for one reason, and one reason only; he's out there to score. He's a poor defender, so if he's not scoring, then he's a detriment. That's just the reality of it. If I'm Karl, I insert him at his normal time, and if he's not hitting his shots, then I jerk him and put Ben, or someone else back in. Hell, at least Anderson plays defense and he can miss as many shots as Belinelli.

yeah we need to trade them both lol!... unfortunately Marco is WAAAAAAY worse...
 
I'm not sure how he was used on his previous teams but from the naked eye it's obvious that we're putting him in low percentage situations. It's not easy to run full speed and then stop on a dime and shoot a long 2. He doesn't get many open looks. Is it Marco, is it the scheme or are his teammates not doing a good job of helping him get easy shots?
 
If Marco wants to work majority off of screens, he's going to need to drop a couple pounds. He looks a heavy to me.

Unless we can get another respectable shooter for him, I wouldn't trade him. If we make the playoffs, Marco is going to be BIG time there.
While he's not making his shots, he's shown that he can make them. I've been as critical of Marco as anyone, but we need him.

Maybe Karl should run the 2nd unit off the combo of Collison-Belinelli. It worked really well in pre-season when we weren't specifically drawing up plays for Marco. It was Collison driving, then kicking out for a set 3pt shot.

Even if we don't change anything, Marco is a proven shooter. He'll start clicking again.
 
Don't trade him. What goes around comes around. Before the season is over he will again be an asset to team play. If there is a better way to use him Karl will figure it out.

also if DC STAYS as a back up PG.... he needs to just play PG without Rondo on the floor... DC is just an awful defender (worse than Rondo). If DC's only job is to relieve Rondo for 15-20mins he's ok. But... that Rondo DC backcourt is just a nightmare.

I agre with you, if a player is useful keep him n the team.

I agree that the Rondo/DC backcourt is a nightmare but I disagree that DC is a worse defender than Rondo. People don't notice how often Rondo brain farts during the game on defense. Go back and watch that last play from last night. Rondo is just standing in the paint guarding nobody while Casspi is guarding two people at once. If Korver catches that ball he has an easy catch and shoot. Yet Rondo gets all the credit for it because he was yelling at everyone to get in place. People just don't notice how often he just stands around doing absolutely nothing while it makes the other players on the team look like they're getting torched because they're trying to make it back to cover his man.
 
Marco has to STOP with the catch off the screen and shoot in motion shot. It NEVER goes in.

Marco has a Championship pedigree and playoff experience, you simply don't trade that away, unless you can replace it with a similar player.

Marco needs to stand in the corner and wait for the ball to be swung his way and he can nail the set 3 pointer.
 
the primary problem with Marco is shot selection more than anything. He is still a good shooter when you put him in positions to succeed....right now all I see from Marco is fade away drifting shots to either the left or right side which are not only bad shots but shots superstars only can make really IMO. The Kings too many times try to just force feed him the ball coming off the curl screens instead of having him stay stationary like they do with Ben.
 
As far as I remember those crazy looking floating shots were always part of Marco's arsenal. I believe the Spurs used him in a way already decribed above: put him in the game, see if he gets hot and yabk him, when he isn't hitting. Now the Spurs had the personal to do this, because they had plenty of shooters. We don't have this kind of depth, because we wasted roster spots on Dukan and Anderson.
When Ben isn't clicking our only hope for production from the 2 is Marco and to a lesser extent Curry.

I don't think so. A deep team isn't built overnight. And a guy like Marco, who can get hot from 3 and hit all kinds of crazy shots is a solid building block.
Keep Marco, keep Ben, get another guy able to hit from outside/defend and trust him (Curry may even be our own Patty Mills).

I was a big fan of Marco's to start the season, but there's no denying he's struggling big time. I admire his tenacity, but I think right now, his confidence is shot to hell. When you start hoping that your shot goes in, instead of knowing your shot is going in, your in trouble. And that's where I think Marco is right now. You start questioning your release, balance, etc. You start overthinking your shot, and the more you do it, the worse it gets. While it's painful to watch him out there missing shot after shot, even open spot up's, you understand why Karl is leaving him out there. He's hoping he'll shoot his way out of it. Obviously his teammates are doing everything they can to help him. They keep feeding him the ball.

However, I do think that Karl has his limit. Belinelli is such a liability on defense, that if he isn't hitting his shots on offense, he's a big detriment to the team. It's one thing to not help, but quite another to also hurt the team. Right now our second unit is not only trying to hold serve, but make up for one double fault after another from Belinelli. Other than trying Curry, I don't have an answer. Karl decided to replace Belinelli's potential offense with a more proven defense in Anderson. Hard to argue with that decison given Belinelli's current shooting problems. I think Ben would have gotten more minutes last night if he had been playing as well as he did in the prior game. But that's Ben right now, isn't it. Here today, gone tomorrow! In fairness to Ben, George is a tough guy to defend. Especially when your giving away around 4 inches in height. No excuse for leaving Ellis though.
 
Until Ben is playing 36+ minutes a night, I see no reason to play Bellinelli at all until his game turns around.
He is so obviously hurting the team every second he's out there, it's a wonder the Kings won the last few games with all the points he gave the other teams.

The Kings HAVE a replacement already on this team - the starting SG!
Just play Ben more, and Marco's ineptness won;t hurt the team as much.
 
What really sucks about his play this season is thatw e saw a 4-5 gane stretch in late December-early January where he was on fire... He's shown he can shoot, but I think the All-Star break will serve him well so he can take a break/regroup.
 
Cleveland may need some more offense/creativity off the bench.... what about Marco/Butler for Shumpert? It works on trade machine. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

Shumpert isn't the greatest shooter on earth, but he isn't horrible either (35% from three last two seasons). However, he is a capable defender, which is more than I can say about Marco (though he does try.... but the point still stands). He is also still young at 25 years old and his deal isn't a back breaker (4 years at 9 million). SG is a tough spot to fill and let's face it, us trading for a top flight SG is not likely to happen, so we need to be selective and smart.
