March 6th city council meeting - It's a YES!!!

can't believe I'm still watching this. These council members are underpaid if they have to listen to these nutjobs at each meeting. After listening to that Sloan chick, I'm prepared to surrender my Chico State diploma. But the real news isn't the arena vote-- buried deep in the fifth hour of this meeting, announcements about story time at a local library, and Fresh and Easy opening. Epic night all around.

Congratulations from LA! So glad you guys keep the Kings and they didn't move to the bandwagon region of California.

Ya, but now they will have to clean up the rest of downtown.

The area where the arena will go has a nice surrounding developed area. Now the further you go out the worse it looks, but the waterfront and the local businesses around where the arena is going to go will boom..

I said I'd only play this song on 2 occasions...and TONIGHT was 1 of them(the other is pretty obvious. Lol)...we as Sacramentans and Kings fans can rejoice!!!! #LongLiveTheKings

nice article on NBA.com, calling this turnarond the greatest comeback in NBA history. On an unrelated note, the blog ends with a "don't get your hopes up" bit about a future All Star Game, again citing the lack of upscale hotel rooms. Anyone have any clue how many upscale hotel rooms the NBA would like to see? It's been easily 15 years since Arco was in any shape to host an All Star game (and it probably never met minimum standards even when new), but in recent years there has been progress on the hotel front-- the Sheraton, Le Rivage, Embassy Suites, and the Citizen Hotel downtown all should meet NBA standards. No doubt we'll see at least another one or two upscale hotels come once the arena gets underway, plus lots of new places in recent years that aren't exactly upscale but at least add to the city's inventory-- multiple Hilton Garden Inns, Hampton Inns, Larkspur Landings, Courtyards, etc. Thousands of new rooms that didn't exist last time Sacramento would've been in the All Star game discussion.

not to mention the Hyatt (any other upscale downtown hotels I'm missing?), the high rise Residence Inn near the convention center, plus the Hilton and Marriott which aren't downtown. Even the downtown Holiday Inn, while not upscale by any stretch, is nice enough for media and fans.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! :D
Wonderful.

I've been to a few of these city council meetings and D. Fong's town hall meeting last Saturday. A few comments.

I actually warmed to Kim Sloan last night. Yes she doesn't know what she's talking about a lot of the time and certainly she presents her argumants in very poor fashion and she is quite rude. That does not mean that wanting to help the homeless and poor is crazy or stupid. (Altho, they do have better advocates at council meetings.)

On the other hand, what you saw is representative democracy in action. Anyone can stand up and talk to their elected officials. They may indeed be crazy, ill-informed, incoherent, snobbish, "holier-than-thou," or under-educated. Some staunchly ignore fats or logic. I respect people who are willing to get up in public and voice their opinion as the constitution gives them the right to do. I have way more respect for the people who represent us and have to put up with all the crap----hours of it.

There were some who spoke for the arena, that did not come across that well, either, but we look at them in a more generous light. The guy with the crown and jersey, I seriously wanted to go up and drag him out of their about 10 seconds after he started. I was so embarrassed by him.

All I know is: 1) it has been a very interesting experience, so far; 2) there's still a lot that could derail this effort, but it's so close; 3) who knew copncil meetings were a source a cheap entertainment; 4) I never, ever want to run for office; 5) I'm so excited about the new arena and keeping the Kings, I could bust! 6) And last night was most definitely a huge victory for the arena backers and we believe it is a victory for Sacramento! :)

LONG LIVE THE SACRAMENTO KINGS! LONG MAY OUR CITY PROSPER.

I rarely post here... ever. However, this is a special occasion. HOOORAYYYY!!!! My Kings will stay in Sacramento for a LONG LOOONGGGG TIME!! And they will be close enough so I never have to pay for additional parking... as a State employee and having a 24 hour parking slot. Oh, yeah. So damm lucky. ;)

LOL. I used to have a State parking space so close to the railyards. :)

I've been to several of those meetings and yes, the crazies are there every time.
