Marc Stein: Impressed with Martin

My young vet (on the) move: Kevin Martin

Martin is one of the more experienced names present, after an upbeat sophomore season with the Kings, and has quickly emerged as the Vegas version of Dwyane Wade. He earned 24 trips to the free-throw line Sunday and sank 20 of them in the Kings' 86-79 win over Toronto.

Martin's success in this setting won't surprise anyone who watched him trouble San Antonio occasionally in the first-round of the playoffs, but new Kings coach Eric Musselman is especially pleased.

Musselman told Martin that his No. 1 summer-league project is using his athleticism to get to the rim and learning how to draw fouls more frequently.

Imagine how surprisingly good Sacramento will be if Artest follows instructions this closely.

I can't wait to see how Martin's VSL success is going to translate into regular and post-season success!!!!

Just likes to take shots doesn't he.

Since Martin said he's been watching and studying Dwayne Wade tapes to see how he gets to the line so much, no surprise. Altho he seems to be a quick study.;)

He took some too many jumpers yes, but it wasn't near every game where he took un-needed shots.

He worked on his jumper last summer, said it felt good, and it looked good in Indy. But obviously the 1 month and a half off hindered his game shape, just practicing at gyms around the country, and still played well and on a high level for us. He's working on his game again this summer.

I think sauce-26 was saying that Marc Stein likes to take (pot)shots at Artest, Kings113.

i donno if stien is taking shots at all. since the start of the summer league, he's been right there at the front of the artest bandwagon

In TDOS, it seems everything tends to be microanalyzed, dissected, trisected, vivisected, etc. I think we've already spent a lot more time trying to figure out what Stein might have meant then he spent on writing the whole piece...

;)

Skies the limit with Martin. He has the tools to become an all around type of player. He can play defense, can rebound at the SG pos (4.5-5rpg is above avg), can shoot the outside shot at a 37-40% clip, can dribble penetrate, can shoot freethrows, and much more.

I had said this about a year ago about K-Mart that he can be a number one option on our team in a couple years if can continue to develop. Much much more than a role player. This is why I want to get him the minutes.

He's gonna get the minutes. I think you can count on that.

I'm glad people are seeing what the really small group of initial Kevin Martin advocates saw back then but I honestly don't understand why you're so impatient. He's learned to crawl and he's starting to walk. Let him master each stage before he gets to the next.

Just my two cents, BTW.

WORD!!!

Can't wait for the season to start.

Rest assured if we do not sign Bonzi than K-Mart will fill in wonderfully. Garcia as well off the bench.

Same thing people said with Peja. Thing is that I'm not so sure Martin has the magnetic personality to take over a team.

Though definitely more than a role player.

I was referring to Mark taking a cheap one at Artest. Considering his reputation in his articles about us, I am assuming that is what he meant to do. I could be wrong.

I don't want him to "take over the team". Give him a few years. When he isn't the young guy on the floor anymore, than we might see somethign from him in the form of leadership.
