Man arrested after bomb threat called in at PalaceJune 4, 2005

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- A 42-year-old man was arrested during the first half of the Pistons-Heat NBA playoff game Saturday night after a bomb threat was called in at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The threat was made at 6:12 p.m., about two hours before tipoff, with the caller claiming a bomb would go off if the game was played. Policed said new security measures implemented after similar incidents earlier in the season were instrumental in identifying the suspect, who was arrested after being interviewed by the FBI and the Auburn Hills police department. The suspect, from Lapeer, Mich., was not identified by name. Police said he was being held at the Oakland County jail.

``Matters of this type are taken very seriously, and the suspect will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,'' Auburn Hills police lieutenant Thom Hardesty said.

Detroit won the game 91-66 to force Game 7 Monday night in Miami. Earlier this season, the start of a Pacers-Pistons game was delayed almost 90 minutes after a caller said there was a bomb in Indiana's locker room.

I wonder if this is the same guy who called in the threat against the Pistons. Did they ever catch him?

Its just stupid IMO... no point to it at all and now the guy is screwed.

They said on ESPN this morning, they caught him using caller ID/tracing. If you're going to do something that stupid, don't call from home. He's obviously not the brightest bulb on the tree.
