Maloofs to layoff 12 personnel....including Kozimor!!

I'm wondering if it actually a financial decision. Didn't Koz do radio play by play for the Monarchs? They'll just have to hire somebody else to do it now.
I'm thinking there's more to this.

It was pretty clearly a financial decision. Since they decided to disband the HPL - for pretty obvious reasons - then Kozimor, who didn't have a regular established gig with the Kings other than HPL - became somewhat redundant. And they won't have to hire anyone else to do Monarchs broadcasts. They still have Krista and Jason.

I think it's pretty clear it's financial in nature. The Bee seems to think so do, if you go by the article on the front page of the sports section today...

I'm pretty irate about them 'laying off' Koz. He was a true shining light of decency, light comedy, and doing things right. If they leave me with just Grant and Lamb, I'm done tuning in for a while.

OK, once again, Mike Lamb is NOT an employee of MSE. Is that hard to understand?

Times are tough. I'm very sorry to see Kozimor go, but I am not going to pretend to micromanage the inner workings of MSE. I'm just glad we still have a team. And I'm not going to boycott the broadcasts because the pre-game warm-up act didn't get his contract renewed.

It's about the team. The coach and the players. Everything else is just icing, IMHO. I don't care if Bozo the one-legged monkey does a juggling act as warm-up. And I couldn't possibly care less if they don't have someone chatting it up and yucking on the concourse in front of a camera before the home games.

I wish Jim Kozimor all the luck in the world and I suspect he'll do just fine.

Really? Whitey, The Phantom and Kayte? I haven't listened to the Rise Guys much recently but the past few days I've heard a couple minutes and I kept wondering who was in there with them.. was it Mark Kreidler?

That's another show I used to like better when it had the original guys.. the original third members name is slipping my head now but he got replaced with Kevin the Rat or some crap I believe. (the Rat was better than F.P. though) Gosh I'm just rambling here.

Take care Koz.

The original third member was Justin Case.

I really liked Koz- I have met him a few times and I think he was very talented.

I'm a little surprised however- I thought they were grooming him to be the eventual replacement for Gary Gerould down the road? And doesn't he do the Monarchs broadcasts too? Who do you think will take over for that and fill in for the G-man? Jason Ross?

I'm not saying MSE. "They" is ambiguous. "They" could be KHTK, it could be "The powers that be that deliver kings coverage to me via radio and television", it could be "MSE" as you took it.

Actually this brings up an interesting question - since Koz isn't working for MSE, is his 7-9 pm show on KHTK going away? I vaguely seem to remember hearing/reading he'll be on the radio just 2 more times. If his show goes away, then i imagine that means that KHTK is laying him off also?

Koz was being phased out on KHTK before this happened with MSE.

When talking about Lamb or Koz, it is germane that MSE could not fire Mike Lamb instead of Koz. Lamb isn't their employee and was not hired to be a "Kings" guy on the radio. KHTK covers all sports and is the Raider's home station in Sacramento, so Lamb should be seen as primarily hired for his football knowledge, anyway. You can criticize that if you want.

But we are not being left with Grant and Lamb for Kings coverage. Basically, MSE has left us with Napear, Gerould and Jason for the Kings and probably Krista and Jason for the Monarchs.

Don't forget the legend Jerry Reynolds in that list. ;)

Sure Lamb isn't a 'kings' guy, but he and Grant do talk a lot of kings and basketball, and I'd much rather hear Kozimor than Lamb. Period.

When you say "they" laid off Koz (as you did in your post), that can only refer to MSE, since that is the organization that just laid him off. No other interpretation makes sense. Maybe you are just being very lazy in your typing and switching who you are referring to by "they" mid stream, but in that case don't get upset at others for not being able to track who you are thinking about when your typing doesn't make it clear.

Hey don't lay into me because your interpretation of my ambiguity made you upset. I also referred to 'tuning in' to Lamb, who isn't on TV, a reference to radio/KHTK. I chose to be ambiguous because I didn't know the details, didn't care about the details, and really just wanted to express sentiments that I feel that Kozimor >>> Lamb.

This argument is ridiculous and I'll have no further part in it. You may go ahead and put in some last word now should you deem it necessary.
