Sorry, but you're way off base. Had they done this with just a modicum of tact and finesse and shown at least borderline respect for Rick Adelman, you wouldn't see me complaining. I was pretty much expecting him to be gone...and said so numerous times during the season. I respect Adelman and what he did but if they want to go in a different direction, have a change of focus, etc. it is - bottom line - their team. It was entirely the shoddy manner in which he was treated AND The obvious duplicity of the Maloofs that has sparked my comments.

But you know what? I'm getting over it. The only ones who seem to be bent on whipping the horse are the people who are glad Adelman is gone. They're gonna ride this as long as they can in their glee.

I suppose that looking at purely the bottom line, dollars and cents of it all, the difference is not huge -- I'll still buy tickets, I'll still buy tacky little Kings knick knacks, I'll still fork over the bucks and I'll still cheer for the team.

However, it makes a difference to me. And again, this isn't the first thing that's rubbed me the wrong way. The things we've seen over the last few years have turned me off big time -- from the ridiculous over-marketing of the gold standard crap, to the giant corporate sponsored "tribute" outside of Arco, to the repeated mishandling of player/personnel changes, and now the massively smarmy spin job we're being treated to -- just a whole bunch of yucky. At this point, I love the Sacramento Kings as a TEAM. As an organization? Not so much. If THAT doesn't make a difference to someone, it damn well should.

I'm still a fan, and will continue to be one, but it would be nice to be able to have a little respect for the people that own/run the team I've chosen to support. And it would also be nice to think that they cared whether or not that respect was there.

I think the reason I don't feel the same as many here is that I'm not living in the area anymore. And your post GGG, helped me come to that realization. I'm far separated from the media you guys are in touch with; radio, tv, newspapers. All I really look at is the bottom line. I want this team to win, and the internal happenings don't really concern me all that much. In no way do I think the way they went about his firing was decent, but I was quickly over it due to the fact that I'm not "in touch" with the team anymore. I'm a television Kings fan now.

Like someone said earlier, I think the majority of people are angry not because of some perceived slight against Adelman, but instead would have been angry regardless because they can't let go of the memories of 2002 with Adelman, Webber, Peja, Hedo, etc.

This is a different team, with different players. Adelman made crucial mistakes that, although did not cost us the series, made winning the series very difficult. Game 2 and the non-substitution of Wells, anyone? How about Game 5 with Miller in the game over SAR? The list goes on and on with this guy.

To me, the reaction to Rick's firing is the difference between Sacramento's fan base and other teams' fan base: the majority of fans complain when Rick is in there doing crap that costs us games and respect, but when the Maloofs FINALLY do something about it, they're criticized. What the heck did you expect them to do? Can someone answer that? Did you want them to host a video presentation to a full house at Arco showing Rick's greatest moments before the firing? Or how about a bonfire or picnic to celebrate his accomplishments? Give me a break guys!

In New York, LA, Chicago, etc. coaches are shown the door in a MUCH less ceremonious fashion without much as a peep from people. When this team gets a defensive-minded coach and are playing San Antonio again next year, this time in the WCF, I bet some of the cryers won't be complaining then.

I SUPPORT the Maloofs 110%. They did what they thought needed to be done to take this franchise to the next level. This isn't about making friends, or allowing the team to stagnate in mediocrity as a 3-6 seed with a 1st-2nd round exit just to keep "the most winningest coach in team history". This is about making this team a championship team. About bringing that parade to J Street like we should have had in 2002.

When it happens, I'm going to be the first one there to say thank you to Joe and Gavin. Thank you for not listening to your hearts, but using your heads.

WOW...you are really missing the point. If you peruse the posts briefly, you'll realize that most people in this forum aren't debating whether Maloofs did the right thing by dismissing Adelman...but rather the lack of professionalism in handling a business and relationships.

The Maloofs vow to mow Chris' lawn in order to sign him, but let Petrie dish out the news when he is traded.

The Maloofs said repeatedly they wanted to resign Peja, only to let him find out that he's been traded sitting in a hotel room watching ESPN.

The Maloofs could have told Adelman they didn't want him anymore in person (perfectly fine) but they again let Petrie do all the dirty work.

A simple phone call and a little bit of honesty is all anyone asks.

I think these evidence speak for themselves.

Yes, when someone (in this case Rick) makes the initiative to tell his boss that he would like to return, I think the boss should return the call in person to be the bearer of good or bad news.

No matter what Joe says on radio, it's hard to convince anyone that the family made the decision in the span of that 3 hours following Rick's call. They made this decision months ago.

No Riley it is a PR disaster IN SPITE of what your little minority would like to argue. It is you who are sitting around willing to accept anything just to get rid of Adelman. The PR disaster on the other hand is FACT. As in called out in the papers, bashed on the radio, overwhelmingly negative FACT. Doesn't matter who is right or wrong about Adelman, it still has been a public relations NIGHTMARE that has given the Maloofs another major blackeye.

Yep, and again, from a previous post of mine, talking about the Maloofs and the decision with Adelman:



Apparently they thought it wasn't going to get any better and wanted to change coaches. That is their right and perogative as owners.

However, they went about it in completely the wrong way, and it may have damaged their chances of hiring a quality coach after watching how they treat "important" employees. It isn't just about Rick, you know. It's setting a tone for the organization and establishing a good relationship with employees - players, coaches, everyone else associated with the team as well. This was not the way to do that.

There is always a long and short term effect to an action. Although the short term effect for the Maloofs (not having to get their hands "dirty" by personally talking with the coach that got your team to where it is today vs. where it was 8 years ago) may be a little comfort in having Rick gone via a call with GP, for whatever reason they aren't sharing - the long term effect is the erosion of "goodwill" between management and employees.

I have a lot of respect for Peja and I think he was wonderful when he was happy - he had many good years here. To find out that your traded by turning on the TV is completely unacceptable to me.

Excellent point. And I'm reasonably sure those players - and a lot of others - have friends or family who do, in fact, scan the fan boards once in a while. I'm sure they know how we feel...

The interesting thing is that at least at lower levels the Maloofs/Kings organization treat their employees VERY well.

Two of my best friends have worked for the Kings for a long time(pre Maloof). They both rave about the organization. Moreover, in terms of fan relations the organization has always ranks very high.

I think people would have complained either way he was let go, be it the "kick in the arse there is the door", or the "pat on the back we wish you well" dismissal.

I agree somewhat with your sentiment, the other thing is that this may be a PR disaster but is not a disaster. With some personel moves, and solid coach this team will be back in the running again.
