Maclemore can create own shot

Entity

Hall of Famer
Not only is this the best highlight video I have seen (mostly because of the song I am sick or rap highlights) anyway check out the video at 3:14. I think saying he can't create his own shot is an overstatement a little.

Heh -- I had to sit through about 30 assisted baskets to get to that one step back jumper. :p

but that is ok anyway. Given our personnel, the last thing we need is another guard who thinks his job is to create his own shot. Spot up and take kickout passes. Get out on the break and finish. Slide backdoor for alley oops. All things we need more than another guy stepping back into his own jumper.

well I just saw some saying he is awful or can't create his own shot at all lol. just saying it may not be as big of a weakness as some make out. I think we definatley got a talent here.

Well, if you're going with highlight videos and using an example or two, you can make Jimmer look like a great 1v1 player.

When referring to a guy who can get his shot 1v1 and create his shot off the bounce, you're generally referring to it as a strength, somewhere you can go if needed, you know many times something good will come out of it. Obviously MLM can create a step back or two or can occasionally get a guy leaning too much and cross him up in the half court. It's why I don't think he has a bad handle. He has potential there.

But creating his own off the bounce is clearly not a strength nor something which should be a focus at this point in time.

He can create his own shot which I don't think is what people are saying. He seldom dribbles more than twice except in a a straight line on a break away.. He's not the guy you give the ball at the end of the game to go 1v1 against anybody.

mclemore's game reminds me so much of ray allen its crazy..im nt saying he will be ray allen as it took more than skill if you see how hard ray allen works and his mentality. bt ray made a hall of fame career out of basically running off screens or two dribble pull ups off hard closeouts and making cuts- so i think ppl are making to much of deal of him nt being able to create his own shots, especially with this team filled with so many ppl that need to have the ball in their hand.

We don't need anymore ISO players. Use him like Ray Allen with the ability to get out and finish strong at the rim, and he is on his way to becoming an All Star.

He may never reach Ray Allen's level in the coming off screens and shooting skill(prove me wrong kid), but his Elite Athletic ability, quick first step could prove deadly if he can improve his ball handling enough. Imagine him coming off a screen, pump faking, he will have so many options from there, attack the rim strong, drive and kick, let defender fly by and shoot open 3.

That's kinda why he would be a good fit with some of our more ISO players (such as Tyreke). But as we've come to learn only too well, it all depends on a coach to put all the pieces together. His shooting ability wouldn't have meant diddly squat under Keith Smart's offense where there's no such thing as off-ball screens.

In Smart's defense, the Globtrotters didn't need to set a lot of screens against the defense of the Washington Generals.

I believe that I said that he was a good 2 dribble and pullup shooter. I also said that I think his lack of creativity has more to do with confidence, than ability. There's no doubt he can be a highlight reel, and I suspect he'll get play on ESPN's 10 top highlights of the night. Similar to what Bricky said, I think if might be overall, a good thing that he plays off the ball, can hit the catch and shoot, and therefore spread the floor. I also think that its just the tip of the iceberg of what he's capable of.

When were talking about creating your own shot, were talking about offense. Lets see, how good a ballhandler was Kevin Martin? How often did he create his own shot? Or did the Kings run him off screens? Sometimes double and triple picks. How about Reggie Miller? How often did you see him create his own shot off the dribble? Just saying! I think were making a mountain out of a mole hill here.

I know a lot of people compare him to Ray Allen but am I the only one who think's he plays a lot like former Grizzlies players (Bibby teammate) Michael Dickerson (injuries cut a good career short)? Good shooter's and like Baja said are good of 1-2 dribbles and are explosive leapers who are elite in transition.
