Luka a Laker/Mavs Misery

Yes, the trade was dumb, but people really are kind of almost forgetting Davis is a legit superstar here. The question is obviously how long he holds up physically. Lets hope for the Kings sake that Davis doesn't decide to take the disrespect out on the Kings in the play in, lol.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Nico is thinking there, but as convoluted as that pick history is, I don't see any evidence that they got a pick back in that deal.

At the time, Dallas controlled "best of PHI/DEN 2025 2nd" (so effectively PHI 2025 2nd which ended up at #35), which they sent off with Grimes. But nothing back that I can find.

Weird to reach for the conspiracy theory angle when simple incompetence is a much more likely and readily available explanation. It's not like Luka was in a tiny media market that the league resents. It's Dallas, TX.
Yes cause the league never rigs games and draft lotteries and somehow magically every time Kobe/LeBron are missing a Allstar/Superstar the Lakers always seem to aquire them for nothing or trades that make zero sense.

Most of the moves Nico has made prior to this were good e.g Lively , Gafford , DJj, Washington, Irving, Thompson, Marshall , only bad one was letting Brunson go but Brunson would not be what he is with Luka where as Kyrie was use to being a #2.

This is ratings move by the NBA and getting LeBron more help.

The NBA is an entertainment league and much closer to WWE than people want to think. Even an incompetent GM would shop Doncic to other teams. Makes no sense. It sure doesn’t put conspiracy theories to rest….just the opposite. NBA is rigged towards big market teams.

There were a lot of years in which both Kobe and LeBron were mired in misery/mediocrity. Let's not conveniently ignore all of those seasons for the sake of frustration over the Lakers' ability to quickly bounce back from fallow periods.

I mean, how do you even imagine this went down? That Adam Silver backroom-ordered Nico Harrison to trade his best player to the Lakers and absorb all of the ridicule that would follow? Do you imagine Harrison is receiving league revenue kickbacks as a result of the shame and humiliation he's had to experience as a result of a trade foisted upon him by the league office? That Adam Silver happily accepts a fan revolt in the massive Dallas media market just to give LeBron a boost in LA?

Again, simple incompetence explains all of this in a far less convoluted fashion. More than anything, it's likely that Dallas's new ownership group wanted off the Luka train in a quick and quiet fashion, and they put their GM in the crosshairs because they didn't believe in Luka. It would hardly be the first time that meddling owners tanked a franchise's future due to ego and hubris.

The NBA may honestly believe that "what's good for the Lakers is good for the league", but they do not stand to gain from breaking trust with their fans. This was as clear as day when David Stern intervened and stopped Chris Paul from being traded to the Lakers in 2011. The league resisted a "superteam" forming in LA precisely because they feared the appearance of impropriety.

The dude just tried walking out a locked door at his press conference. Against all odds, he appears to have traded Luka because he is that stupid.

Owners and GMs make stupid decisions all the time. No conspiracy is necessary.

The Mavs ownership was likely looking at the payday Luka was heading towards and may not have thought he was worth it. Now they may not have gone about the process in the best way, but it's not like they traded Luka straight up for Bagley and cash considerations or anything...

The thing about conspiracies is, everything is 'proof' of the conspiracy, even things that directly contradict the conspiracy.
