Overall yes for a simple reason that it is a smaller contract (even though it for a year longer I believe) and Hayes provides leadership and some good man defence. Having said that, if push comes to shove I would give Hayes up to get pick 12 and Lowry but I would also try and give 36 for 18 knowing that its unlikely to be accepted
Hayes contract is bad no doubt but I think Salmons contract is even worse.

Lowry, 12 + 18 or Motiejunas. That should do it, IF MKG is not available. Might be asking too much though. Henson will likely be gone at 12, but if we came out of this with Lowry, Jones, and Harkless or something of that ilk, that would be a successful night.

In terms of the best place to get a double-bacon cheeseburger, I agree. But coming in out of shape, throwing the ball all over the court, forcing 1v1 shots and laughing on the bench during losses is not my idea of leadership.
I'd personally ship Chuck out before Salmons, as I think Salmons with his declining contract and ability to play SG/SF and handle the ball could be attractive to a contender, and therefor might be moveable in a package in July. Or we can amnesty him, which we can't with Chuck.

Best case, MKG falls to the Kings and we get the SF we covet.
Next best, MKG is off the board and Rockets complete the swap for #5 and we get Lowry and a pick or two in the teens along with a young backup center.
Next best, If the Rockets don't ante up for the #5. Widely make it known that Lillard is the pick. This will send Portland into panic mode because they wanted Lillard. Perhaps leading to pick and swap with the Blazers if they want it bad enough.
If all else fails, Kings take Barnes.

I have no idea why you quoted me when I didn't mention Lillard, but if you want a friendly wager, I'll bet that Lillard is a far, far superior player than either of those two. Perhaps with the winner getting to choose the other's signature for a fixed period of time? Unless you're not saying he's Douby/Price reincarnated, in which case I don't see your point...
Lillard is not top of my list at all. All I'm saying is I'm not necessarily against taking him, only provided that the roster is sorted out. But I don't trust GP to make the necessary moves, so we're back to square one. In all honesty I'll happily stay at 5 and take MKG if he's there. If not, I'd listen to offers. Lowry + 12 + 18 doesn't look too bad in that scenario.

Jones just said the Kings turned down Lowry+16 for 5+ Hayes, which is encouraging because a) this means Hayes still has some trade value and b)this is a actually a decent trade, so Petrie is holding out for something better

One does have to marvel at how Houston has somehow managed to (and is attempting to) turn Camby/Scola/Dalembert into Patterson/Scola/Brockman. Add in Chuck Hayes and Carl Landry and you'd have a midget power forward all-star team.
Considering how much Houston will wind up having to give up to acquire Dwight Howard (which is apparently their big end game, even though everyone is saying that he would immediately want out of there), Morey's taken a team that was on the fringe of the playoffs (albeit without a real core) and has it now teetering on the edge of a cliff over which it could plummet at a moments notice.
Apparently trying to get a top 5 pick (which I'm assuming is a couple of this year's picks plus Lowry) to pair with Dwight (though you would have to think Orlando would want that pick for themselves), while they will also have to mortgage the farm to get him themselves (i.e. KMart + Scola + a bunch of picks).

I wouldn't take Lillard in the top 10. And I think anyone who picks him over Andre Drummond is crazy. Drummond is a big risk because his attitude at UCONN makes you question his willingness to work hard, but let's look at Lillard for a second. Upper-classman undersized scoring guard carves up the inferior competition at a small school but fails to repeat that success in the NBA. Brick just showed you the big failures that ended up on our team, but this happens with someone else every year. I don't know if Lillard has something that none of those guys had or not. But I'm with Brick at least in saying that you have to be a little apprehensive about guys who fit that profile because the historical evidence is horrifically one-sided. You might be lucky and find the exception that proves the rule, but do you want to be the one to take that chance?

Yeah, agree. At this point I would I think Lowry + Montie + Harkless > 20% chance the rookie we draft at 5 becomes an all star in 3-6 years
Again, this is if the top MKG is off the board.

Well, it's 11 actually because JT and Donte are free agents. We all kind of expect JT to be back, so we can call it 12, but Donte is pretty much gone. If Sham is correct, Whiteside is completely unguaranteed (and so could be cut), but Honeycutt and IT are guaranteed for next year (and we wouldn't be cutting IT at any rate). So we have a bit of flexibility, but you're right that we would have to dump contracts (trade, amnesty - ha!) if we want to pick up too terribly much more.
I had a Machiavellian episode last night wherein we made four trades, dropping five players and picking up three players and two daft picks in the process, but it's far too fantastical to post here...!

Nope, haven't heard his name mentioned in any rumours. I'm not saying we need to include him in any deal BTW, just that he probably makes more sense than Scola/Patterson. And yes, Motiejunas should not be a deal breaker when it comes to Dwight Howard, although I think they are treading dangerously since he's said he has no intention of re-signing.
