New Orleans wins 21 games and ends up with #1 overall pick. Kings win 22 games and end up with ho-hum 5th pick. That final game victory over Lakers could be seen as a curse, as if Kings had only won 21 games MAYBE they'd be celebrating right now instead of Hornets.

The NBA doesnt even try to hide that this thing is rigged. I know more than a few people who predicted NO would get the #1 pick. Screw the NBA.

I think Beal and Drummond may both go top-4, which means there's a chance we might be able to pick between MKG/Robinson and Barnes.

1. Hornets - Anthony Davis. No brainer.
2. Bobcats - Andre Drummond. I think they have to go with the big upside here.
3. Wizards - Bradley Beal. With Singleton and Vesely in town, I don't think they can go with a defensive wing in MKG, and I think Beal's offense plays well next to Wall
4. Cleveland - probably MKG/Barnes. They'd love Beal if he falls. They'd also take Drummond if he falls. Robinson is the only one who doesn't make any sense, due to Tristan Thompson, can't give up on him yet.

That would leave two of MKG/Barnes/Robinson for us. We just have to make the right call.

Has he already opted out? I haven't seen a report on that. In fact, I saw some reporter as of yesterday or today saying they thought he wouldn't opt out, but often reporters are dumb.

Right in the Beal/Robinson range. I'd look to trade down or out all together.

You wouldn't want Robinson? Sure, he's a bit undersized, but he makes up for it with his athleticism. I think he'd work just fine alongside Cuz. As for Beal, if he' the BPA, you go BPA, position overflow be dammed. If you have a chance to get a Baby Wade Jr., you take him. My worst case scenario is Drummond. He's got major Bust potential. Still, all things considered I'm cool with everything because if taking a chance on Drummond is our worst case scenario, then we are in a pretty good situation overall.

With the Kings' lottery history, it is far more likely we'd have ended up with the seventh pick.

That means exactly nothing. In a conspiracy, what happends behind closed doors is the crime. It's rigged and it's obvious. Stern is thumbing his nose at everyone ! How much extra do you think Benson had to pay to get the first overall pick thrown in?

Can't even get mad about this, as if the last 2-3 drafts we done all over again, with all the players combined, we came out with #1 in Cuz, and Reke would be top 10. We weren't even supposed to be in this conversation is the first place.

I wouldn't be so sure. They have absolutely no option for low-post scoring. None. Biyombo is a shot blocker, and that's about it. Drummond ought to develop into a capable, if not great, low-post scorer.

Beal wouldn't shock me (again, a consistent scorer), and Barnes wouldn't (scorer, from UNC) if he weren't such a reach. MKG doesn't make much sense in Charlotte, again, because they need to focus on scoring, and Robinson as a smaller face-up PF probably doesn't tempt them as much as Drummond. But that's just one random dude's opinion, so take it for what it's worth.

While I'm not going to say the lottery process is or isn't fixed, I will say that the process needs to be changed. I understand why it was implemented, but it's hurting several franchises more than it's helping to thwart those that may choose to lose on purpose in order to improve draft position. Any franchise that would purposely lose to secure a top pick certainly will do the same to acquire more ping pong balls and the chance to jump other teams.

If they really want to prevent a franchise from tanking at the end of a season, as Houston may or may not have done in back-to-back years to get Sampson and Olajuwon, all they need to do is slot teams based upon a 3 year average. For example, you'd take this past season's record and combine it with the previous two. You then slot the non-playoff teams in reverse order of their combined winning percentage.

Problem solved.

Doing it this way prevents a team from tanking the last 2 months of a season and being rewarded with #1 based off that one season. Sure, a team on the fringe could still opt to do so if they know a 3-yr average between themselves and another team is going to be close. However, you get that anyway with the current ping pong process. So what's the difference?

The difference between the current process and what I'm proposing is teams that have been bad for a string of 3 years aren't going to be consistently penalized and see their draft position fall nearly every single year. The Kings, for example, have been in the lottery 16 times. Of the 16, they have lost position in the lottery 13 times. THIRTEEN! Including today, they have maintained position only 3x and improved position only ONCE. That's a flawed system. And the Kings aren't the only one's finding themselves buried in lottery mediocrity.

No franchise is going to tank for 2 or 3 years straight in order to get a #1 pick, especially considering they would have no way to know who would be available that far out. So any team that ends up in the top 3 or 4 will have legitimately been bad for a majority of that time frame, even if they did choose to tank near the end of the current season.

Wake up NBA. It's time for a change. Doing so will help alleviate the ever present conspiracy theories that surround the current process and align yourselves with every other major professional sports league. The NFL and MLB don't seem to have problems with franchises losing on purpose. Start policing your league better.

I think Jordan has to go with Drummond. The team cannot really get any worse than they were this season, and he cannot take a safe pick to save his reputation. If he makes a splash with a guy like Drummond and it turns out to work well, it could help bandage some of the cuts from his failure as an executive.

MKG would make a ton of sense to Charlotte. He's exactly the kind of guy who can lead in a locker room, provide the energy and hustle on the defensive end, and be a 13-15 PPG scorer right out of the gate. Charlotte can not afford to miss on this pick; they need the safest, most talented player they can get. MKG is that guy after Davis

At this stage though Drummond is largely duplicative with Biyombo. Not, mind you, that talent evaluation has ever been Jordan's strong suit. Not sure how involved he'll be this tie, or whetehr he'll actually let his GM make the pick.
