Loren Woods cut

Saw it at the end of the Bibby article. First cut = our only 7 footer. So much for that experiment:

Kings' Bibby Out for Three Weeks with Injured Thumb
Written for the web by C. Johnson, Internet News Producer

A banged-up thumb will keep point guard Mike Bibby on the sidelines for three weeks, the Sacramento Kings have announced.

Bibby jammed his right thumb in the third quarter of Sunday's contest against the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets in Reno. The starter left the game with 7 points and didn't return.

The thumb was x-rayed Monday. It is not broken.

Kings won the Hornets matchup 117-93. Back-up point guard Ronnie Price had a strong outing, shooting 18 points.

Sacramento has three more preseason games, including Tuesday's Hornets re-match before the regular season opens November 1 at Minnesota.

Also, the Kings trimmed their roster by one Sunday night. Center Loren Woods was cut. It's expected one more cut will be announced this week as Sacramento gets down to the league maximum 15 players

you could see it in his face as he sat on the sidelines, he probably had good inclination of the inevitable.

He was probably a victim of not being eligible to be sent down to the D-League as much as anything else. Pot's salary too expensive and too valuable as a trade piece. Either Hart or one of Amundson/Williams is next -- my money is on Hart. Amundson and Williams both to DLeague and the final 13 on the active roster:

Bibby/Price
Martin/Salmons/Douby
Artest/Garcia/Corliss
Kenny/Shareef
Miller/Taylor/Pot (inactive)

If Williams and Amundson are doing really well in DLeague, by the end of the season Corliss and Pot will probably be traded/put on waivers/put on inactive list and the kids will be called up.

I think one of the rooks will be on the roster and pot will be in street clothes all season if need be.

In order for one of the rooks to suit up someone else would have to be made inactive. Maybe Corliss? It's definitely likely Pot won't play this season.

sucks for woods and the kings i guess... 1 less 7 footer, lakers have 3(2 injured but still) and we have 1 soft one... oh well, one down... one to go...

wonder who starts at point guard? i think salmons will.. which might be nice for match up purposes... salmons guarding mike james sounds better than bibby guarding mike james... eventhough bibby has been playing defense...

That's definitely a potential scenario. Mo has sucked too of course, so that's another possible. Either way, the Woods cut actually saved us $900,000 this season, but Hart and maybe Mo (if that was guaranteed) are people we actually have to pay regardless, so be interesting to see if we are actually willing to eat those contracts (not to menion lose thme as minor trading pieces). Also interesting to see if the Bibby injury changes our thinking any about Hart -- we've got Salmons, and so might give him a shot, but hard to imagine that impresive camp or not we want to trot Ronnie Price out there as our starting PG for the first few weeks.

We have a "point Artest", we can get away with no PG for a little while at least. There is a lot of potential talent that can eat Bibby's minutes. Martin-Garcia was a potent combo last year. I'd like to see more of that.

First post. Might be just precautionary, but seems a bit strange for a thumb jam.

Sorry for the derail, this was the first news I had read about it.

ya i guess everything has an upside if u look hard enough, maybe garcia excels and has more confidence same with ronnie, but i think i the long run we would have won more games with bibby not being injured the first few weeks.. maybe he comes back, bibby's a beast, in the last 3 season hes only missed 2 games, if u dont coutn 02-03...since 99 hes only missed 4 games

Yeah, because we've lost so many of them, right?

really, u dont think when teams lose their best offesnive player, and possible number one scorer for the year, that theyll lose some extra games, well..since i too am a kings fan i sincerley hope u are right, but most teams lose a couple games when the lose one of their best if not their best player. imho

I wonder if bibby hadnt been injured, would Woods have been cut. Bibby getting injured may have saved Hart from being cut at this stage.

I sure hope so, sounds good. I would like it if we sent Douby and Amundson down and played Williams on the active roster now, but it would help Williams probably more to get playing time other than just practive in the D league. Amundson is very raw and needs time developing. Williams needs to add muscle very bad and fill out, Amundson is filled out, but needs to get a shot developed, Williams maybe as well, but he doesn't shoot free throws that bad from what I saw.

I think its a real reach for the kings to keep even one player in the D-league.... the kings have never taken advantage of the d-league yet why now... if amundson or williams get cut that means their CUT.... the maloofs are not paying for a player that has no chance of helping or any real off the charts talent to mess around with chumps, and collect a check... yeah right on that happening...

my guess is that Hart and Potato Head stick around...too much of a hit money wise to release these guys.... my guess they could be included in a trade with Corliss W.(i think Corliss is in his last year?) and cross your fingers kenny thomas to a team looking to free up some cap for a sight edge in picking someone up in the offseason... with Bibby, Hart, Potato and Corliss coming off the books that allows us to shop or trade...

The Kings will be look'n to save as much money they can at this point... no more spending on a 14th 15th man... amundsons 2 year deal is not look'n so great at this point... no way the kings honor this deal

Well, I think it's possible, but you are talking in the past tense about THINGS THAT HAVEN'T HAPPENED YET. Wake up, will you? You have a crystal ball? We don't even know how long Mike will be out. Sheesh.

That makes bunch of sense. Pot as the 15th guy but one more player has to get cut to get down to 15. Bibby injury may keep Hart around. Hope not.

Why don't you discuss losing "best offesnive player, and possible number one scorer for the year" with yourself, because here's what you said in another thread less than an hour ago:

http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showpost.php?p=383956&postcount=23

bibby did good in the high post offense assist wise, i think in the low post offense of last year he wasnts able to keep up the good assist numbers...bibby never misses games, i think hell put on one of those finger splints and play

well if u saw, in the post above someone was semi-bashing bibby, i was just satnding up for a player i like in a thread baord about that player, hmm...so in other word ur pointing out that my opnion stay the same..or ur poingting out that i have very good opnions in many threda... i dont quite understadn what ur attempting to pont out, other than that bibby is a better player in a high post offense than in a low post offense, that i like him, or that i think hes our top player, how did i contradict myself, and yes i said his assist numbers slipped, but his ponts went up..i really dont understand what ur trying to point out

really..we dont know when mikes coming back, well i was basing my message on the fact that theres ana article saying hell miss 3 WEEKS, sheesh

I think this is exactly what will happen. Musselman is a different cat than Adelman. He seems to be big on underdog types, young over-achievers like himself.

Apparently you lack some basic reading comprehension skills. Maybe the fact you say that he's going to be out for weeks and we've already lost a chunk of those games (which we haven't even played yet) and then you say that Mike isn't going to miss time because he's going to splint the finger and play with it anyways?

Ring any bells?

You're stating "facts" regarding some assumption you have made on our win-loss percentage on games we haven't played yet for an injury that we are still not sure about the healing time on.

You know, this bit right here:

"we would have won more games with bibby not being injured the first few weeks"
