Looks like Reke has a shooting coach?

Magic had probably the greatest court vision and passing ability in the history of the game, he was so talented at getting others involved that it didn't matter that he couldn't shoot. Tyreke on the other hand is best creating for himself, he doesn't have the court vision or awareness to consitently create for others, thus his lack of jumpshot is even more glaring. Opponents know that if they pack the paint, Tyreke doesn't have the ability to hit an open shot, or create for others on a regular basis.

You might try watching a Kings game sometime. A guy named Tyreke Evans constantly sets up teammates with wide open shots that they brick at one of the worst rates in the league. Every game this guy Tyreke Evans, an elite NBA penetrator by anyone's standards, gets by defenses geared to stop him numerous times only to see guys like JT/JJ/Hayes bumble dump offs out of bounds or miss easy layups, or to see what up until this weekend was one of the two worst shooting supporting casts in the league brick open shot after open shot. At the end of just about every 1st quarter, when keeping track, this guy Tyreke Evans has set guys up with so many open looks he should have 5-7 asts if his teammates would just convert at a league average rate.

The funny thing about this guy Tyreke Evans, is that even though he repeatedly sets up his teammates, and on numerous occasions should have had 10+ ast nights if only his teammates could convert open shots at a league average rate(really, these guy have been shockingly poor at hitting open shots), the fans of the team he plays on never mention all the open shots his teammates miss which he's set up, even though they're missing at the 2nd worst rate in the league. In fact, the fans of this team Tyreke Evans plays on appear to blame him for the 2nd worst shooting core in the league missing their open shots which he set up. If you get a chance, watch this guy, as he apparently is so good that he can not only set up teammates for open jumpers, but he can magically be in two places at once, receive his own pass and convert for them. When he doesn't, the fans of this team blame him for not using his super powers which allow him to convert shots off his own passes. Truly remarkable.

When opponents have another player's man help pack the paint on Reke, shift, double, trap, shade, whatever....he just did create for teammates. They are open because of him. All that remains is us designing a way to get the ball to them. This is why players who demand double teams and extra attention are so much more valuable than players who don't even if the numbers are similar.

And BTW, Tyreke has NEVER been as bad about finding people as its often made out on this board. Call him anything but a PG and he's one of the best guards in the league at it actually. SGs are Kevin Martins and Marcus Thorntons and Wes Matthews and Tony Allen and Jared Dudley. If that's what Reke is, let alone if you call him a SF, guys like he and Wade with the ability to create for others let alone the willingness to are a very rare commodity.

How far away is Evans from becoming a solid jump shooter? ”Oh, he’s right there. I mean, the thing is when he was growing up, he could shoot the ball pretty good, so, it’s not like he’s an awful shooter. Right now it’s about the repetition, getting his confidence back and doing the things that he did when he was a youngster. And I’ve been watching Tyreke since he was in high school and he was scoring 30 points a game back then and he could really shoot the ball.”

You know, I have heard rumblings of that from Evans' brothers in the past. The story was that he used to do nothing BUT shoot jumpers, and people remarked on it, so he responded by starting to go to the rack and became an elite talent. Just hard to imagine it going so wrong.

Oh please! You know what loser's mentality is...exactly what you are are displaying. Here we have a unique talent that EVERY team in the NBA would love to have on their roster, you constantly we are subjected to you dribble about how Tyreke is crap because he can't shoot, he is a crap defender, he can't pass, he is selfish, he can't finish consistently, he can't dunk, he can't this, he can't that.

The loser's mentality in all this is that you don't appreciate the player we have because he is not sexy enough...in other words he is no Rubio! So spare us the loser's mentality allegations because you are the one that wants to build this team with the type of players that have never won anything in this league in prominent role.

Cousins and Tyreke are absolute untouchables on this team if we are serious about not being perennial losers but you would trade Tyreke for any good player that can shoot and nothing else or pass and nothing else. THAT is the loser's mentality. Its called the tall poppy syndrome! Maybe you should look it up?!

I think I should point out, that Kingster was a big supporter of drafting Tyreke, along with a few others of us. And while He may be a little over excessive at times in his criticism of Tyreke, I think he still wants Tyreke to succeed. I've had my run in's with Kingster, but I do admire his passion for the team. Being critical of Tyreke's jumpshot, or lack thereof, is certainly a reasonable criticism. This dispute seems to be more over how the criticism is communicated, than than the criticism itself.

If a messenger tells you that there are 100,000 enemy soldiers outside your gates, killing the messenger won't make them go away.

But if there's only 1000, and you know about them and are prepared to handle them, then shooting the messenger will give you a little peace and quiet on the subject. ;)

im surprised that no one mention the game against the pistons when tyreke hit 4 jumpers and he didnt fade away on any of them. Tyreke usually only fades when somone is guarding him but when he shoots his 3's he shoots it straight up. I say last night he faded a little bit on his shot but he could be favoring that ankle too. I have confidence he will get a jump shot by next year bc he seems like he is really determined now. I think its a wake up call on how the league plays him and how bad his shot has been this year.
