Looking to move back.

Well, this Christmas has taught me that I need to come back to the west coast. Grandma(s) can't stand being away from the kid, and we'll take the extra help. That, and I can't really count on Sportscenter for Kings highlights anymore ;)

To that end - I'm looking for help/recommendations from the community. I'm a math teacher with 7 years experience, and she's a scientist working for a small biotech company. I'm not really trolling, but aside from looking at the want ads and randomly searching, I was wondering if any of you knew of good places (schools, bio companies) for which to look. I currently work at an independent school, so I was thinking Sacramento Country Day School, but again, if any of you know of good areas, it would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

Good luck. You do realize the cost of living in California is currently slightly less than colonizing Mars, right?

;)

Housing proces in CA are dropping though, so wait a bit more (maybe rent for a while first, if possible, assuming you want to buy to begin with) before you make that plunge if you can. You will probably get better deals in a few more months. Foreclosures are rising and prices going down.

Believe it or not, I'm paying as much in taxes here in Delaware (to make up for the fact that there isn't any sales tax, I suppose.)

My son works for Genentech and says they are a wonderful company to work for. They are rated very highly as an employer nationally. They are based in the Bay Area but have spread to Vacaville and Sacto. San Juan Unified School District is a decent collection of schools. You are probably over qualified for Country Day but than I am making assumptions based on the fact that many private schools don't require a degree in teaching. Private schools probably pay less but that's a guess based on their requirements.

They do make less, but I've grown used to the autonomy given inside of my classroom. The current problem with public is that I'm not quite sure what I'd "need" to teach. I think passing the CBEST is first on my list. I'm also looking into the diocese of Sacramento to see if any Catholic schools need someone.
Good to hear about Genentech - I heard that they were laying people off, though.

Ah. I've taught Algebra I, 6th grade math for the past six years, and currently teach 8th grade math. I've taught Spanish and Computers, but I have my Master's in Math Ed. Thanks for the links; I'll give them a look.

Also, I've been working on not ending sentences with a preposition.

I try to be concious of that as well. :) Although, it seems like its become acceptable. Makes my writing look stilted to some folks, when I do it the right way. ;)
