Let's Make the Playoffs! & The State of the Opposition

#31
If we're talking about the end of the season (playoffs), then let's be real:
We need to be seriously thinking about the #5 seed.

No, I'm not on dope.

All the Kings have to do is play to their potential, stop half of the braindead stupid plays they make every single game, play hard defense and start getting some of those hard-luck misses to fall, and they are pretty clearly better than the Mavericks and the Grizzlies, IMO.
They've already proved they're a better team than Houston and others below them.

They're only 3.5 games back from #5 right now, and they could pick those up pretty quick once they start winning.
I don't know if they could beat OKC or the Clips in a playoff series, but they could take them to enough games to make a splash this year and threaten getting to the second round.

If we

1. Lax the double teams a little and cover corner 3s
2. Stop with bad lineups (Rondo-Collison)
3. Keep playing our brand of offense, while being more conservative with our pace and picking our spots

We'll make the 8 no problems

So much stupidity is undermining how much good there is on this team. We cut out the stupidity (which isn't hard it's clear to most), and we get so much better. We can see this slight progression as the game goes on. A team finding its identity.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. I am so excited for tonight game!! I really hope we can keep this winning streak alive :)

When our defense decides to show up, our offense will be borderline top 5 statistically. If I recall we are around 10 or so now... And that's with a defense that repetitively allows teams to score and set their defense up.

One step at a time guys. I think you overestimate our team quite a bit. There are several teams, that underperformed this season. Usually the Clippers, Rockets, Grizzlies, healthy Mavs, healthy Thunder, Spurs and Warriors are clearly ahead of us, when it comes to experience of their key components, chemistry and overall level of talent (Coaching included).
We are on par with Minnesota, Utah, Phoenix and healthy Pelicans and should beat Denver, Lakers and Portland.
So everything other than the 8th seed is pretty much a pipedream with our current team and experience.
At some point of the season teams will figure things out and start playing as usual again.

The Kings are currently :
3rd in ppg
8th in fg%
5th in 3pt%
opponents points - dead last
opponents fg% - 5th from last

add defensive tenacity and we're a solid competitive playoff team. all about the effort and whether they want to do it. plenty of talent offensively to play with anybody in the league except the top 2

Guys, I know we have not had a positive thread in a while. The team is competing and winning and it's all fun. Did not want to drop a negative comment and actually held for a few days but gotta let it off my chest. I was waiting for someone to address what I noticed at the end of Rockets game between Cuz and Rudy. At the beginning of garbage:)) ) time when our starters were walking to the bench, Rudy and Cuz.. well, high fived. As Cousins walked past Rudy after the gesture, rudy's arm was still tangled with Cuz and Rudy kinda pulled his arm in a not so nicely manner. Then Cousins almost pushed back. Bad enough to grant technical in a game situation. I have watched the recording many times looking for positive clues out of this, could't find any. Cousins didn't look happy on the bench post a good win. They walked on the court upon the last buzzer, Rudy and Cuz did not intract or high five. I have been concerned. Honestly, Unless Rudy did something really bad that I did not know, Trade Cuz thought came to my mind, first time ever. I have never, ever put a negative comment on Cuz but I am worried.worried about team chemistry.

But what if we trade Demarcus Cousins???

As an aside, this Boogie as "PF" stuff sites like ESPN have adopted really pisses me off. Even when he's next to WCS he's playing at least as much center as PF, and WCS was a guy who played 18 minutes for about 15 games and then got hurt. We almost never play Cuz next to Koufos, and he's always the center next to everybody else.

You know what Cuz as 'PF" is going to do? Its going to seriously threaten his position on the All NBA teams unless we go off and win a crapload of games, because ALll-NBA teams are done by position, and if half the voters think you are a PF, and half think you are a center, or maybe that should be 1/4 and 1./4, because half of them refused to vote for Boogie as anything last year...you're not going to get enough votes at either C or PF to make a team.

I would rather have a well behaved boogie but from what I have observed, If Rudy feels dejected and digresses, we lose this game due to that, I know where to look. I can't fault Rudy or the teammates anymore. Rudy has been playing excellent ball. I remember in the same Rockets game, Rudy was sweating it out and had 'IT' going. Cuz took a bad long distance shot. Rudy took a long rebound off it and nailed a long jumper right away, at the same time Rudy let Cuz know! I saw him yapping. May be it hurt Cuz ego a bit thus he rebelled like a teenager but the whole sequence of interaction has me worried about the rteam chemistry, The Rudy treatment and today's game.

Yep, but Kevin Martin is exactly what we need!
Ask VF21 about the irony of somebody mocking ME as a Kevin Martin supporter. awesome.

It just seemed like one of the possible ways to grant Caron his freedom and jettison BMac. I'm not hung up on Kevin but I think he's a better ballplayer than Ben McLemore that's all. I don't mind Ben as much as some people, but I don't think he's too bright, and to have his athletic tools and not be an effective lock-down defender is something I don't understand.

Anyway, I love it - I mean I was actually banned from the board for my vicious & relentless and I agree excessive attacks on Kevin & his fans back in the day. I was just spitballin with that one the other day :)

Speaking of 8seed I hope some of you realize how foolish you were to question Rick Carlisle.

You can add my main man my number 1 MIIKE NALONE to that as well he's doing a fabulous job in Denver.

Hope springs eternal and it doesn't cost any more to dream in 3D.

If there's one thing Kings fans are about, it's about hopes and dreams.
Let's be real here, most of us have to be lacking in some sort of capacity in order to have stuck around this clown show for the last decade! Hopes and dreams are in there somewhere though, can't be without those otherwise I may actually go "full" crazy.

A trend I have noted myself, and why I have (wisely as it turned out) held off on making this one. Just once I would like this team to seize the bull by its horns, say "hey, we're really a good team' and go out on a trip like this and serve notice. Just once. Not squeak out a win, or come close, but just once make it happen the way that every other team in the NBA does from time to time.
I think this team has turned the corner and understand how good they are. I think they are a very good team that only needs experience together to improve. In my mind, only Collison is struggling to find a role but that is a team/coach problem and not just his. That doesn't mean we will win tonight as any road game can be an adventure.

You know, The PER thing and the stats can be very deceiving on a bad team. i. e. Tyreke stats on his rookie year.
I generally agree with you, but I'm not sold on that example, The Pelicans sure look like a significantly better team with Tyreke back, and that Kings teams had a pretty decent amount of wins with a total dearth of talent around him. (I'm still not over it)

But what if we trade Demarcus Cousins???

I would never do that trade! Those are not players that would make any difference for the Kings. Players that would be potentially of interest, such as Drummond, Davis, Towns, Butler, Klay Thompson etc. are not available. Therefore, there's no point to even discuss a trade.

Only two of those are even worth discussion: Davis and Towns. And the reason they are not available is because those organizations are far brighter than Kings fans apparently and would never trade their franchise big men for anything, which is the only appropriate response.
