"Leading Off: We want Kings to stay - and win again"

No its not. He was the most talented player

Look, I watched Lillard play quite a bit in college, and I couldn't predict he would be this good. When a player comes from a smaller conference, and as a result, doesn't play many games against the bigger schools, its hard to find a true measuring stick. He looked like an elite athlete to me, but unless I see him on the floor up against other elite athlete's, Its hard to predict. Now, as Bricky said, hindesight is 100%. I think I became positive about Lillard at summer league. After that, there was no doubt in my mind that this kid was going to be a very good player in the league. He was one of the best players there, hands down!

I will admit that Robinson wasn't my first or my second choice, but I couldn't fault the Kings for picking him at five. The tantilizing player of course was Drummond, and he was a risky pick, and anyone that doesn't think, so is just blowing smoke. But, it was one of those high risk, high reward type things. I wouldn't have been upset if the Kings had taken him, but after watching him play in highschool and then one year at UCONN, I can certainly understand teams passing on him. Right now, that looks like a mistake, but lets wait a couple of years before passing total judgement.

I still think that Robinson's best position down the road might be SF. He's athletic enough for the position. He has good ballhandling skills, that should improve, and he has a nice looking, but inconsistent jumpshot, that should also get better. At SF he wouldn't be undersized, and would be one of the stronger SF's in the league, and a SF that could post up other SF's, similiar to Melo. And please, I'm not implying that he's the next Melo.

To get back to the topic at hand, I really fear the fan reaction if VB somehow mutters the name of the Sacramento Kings in January as being the proposed anchor tenant for their new arena. On that day, I suspect it could be the final straw for a vast majority of fans.

Well I think most of the fans have already had their final straw with the Maloof family, and frankly I doubt many would be surprised by that announcement. However, I don't think it changes much. The Maloofs can promote whatever they want, but VB doesn't have an arena, and it doesn't look like one will be built anytime soon. Plus, they need permission from the league, which once again, is doubtful. I won't waste your time going over the same ground again. To be honest, I'd be more shocked if its not the Kings that gets mentioned as the anchor tennat.

For the casual yet loyal fans in and around Sacramento, I think it could be the death knell for their support. This arena crap has gone on for far too many years. After the frustration of the recent near-miss, to find out that once again the Maloofs are being disingenuous could easily empty Sleep Train, even if the plans for VB never get off the ground. The fans who merely listen to the likes of Bryan May don't know the whole story and don't really care. All they know is they're spending money to watch a bad team that isn't going to be here much longer anyway. (I'm paraphrasing comments I've heard over the past few months...)

I think VF has a point here -- we all know the Virginia Beach arena plan is a hail mary at best, but that doesn't really matter. The Maloofs very publicly destroyed the last whiff of support they're ever going to have in Sacramento with that whole ceremonial arm-raising fiasco. If the Kings and Virginia Beach are part of any kind of official announcement, they may still get fans at games this season but I expect a large chunk of any remaining season ticket holders are going to jump-ship at that point. I'm hardly ever in Sacramento anymore so it's been years since I looked at how much it costs to go to a game. I looked it up today and the upper-level tickets cost twice what I expected them to. You can charge that much for a playoff-level product, you can't charge that much for professional incompetence. But what really gets me is that they could have easily sold out the entire downtown arena in advance, overcharged for seats even, if they just signed the stupid agreement last year. The whole community was rallying around the cause, itching to let bygones be bygones, and then Georgey woke from his drunken stupor and pissed all over it. They're going down with the ship and it's their own dumb fault.

I personally do not see Virginia Beach happening at all.

VA Beach's arena deal calls for $426 million for the construction of an arena along with relocation costs and other costs with the public contribution at $391 million. The only private investment would be from Comcast at $35 million and none from the Maloofs. Public contribution is at 92% and they need $150 million from the state of VA. Good luck with that.

I will continue to post links to any of the latest news on it for our entertainment. January 9th will be an interesting day as that is when the anchor tenant will be named.

First, the city will have to get a commitment, on paper, from all the players, including Comcast-Spectacor and the anchor tenant. Sessoms said he plans to get this "term sheet" done before the legislative session convenes Jan. 9.

"Certainly within a close time frame of that date," Sessoms said Tuesday. "No question in my mind. We're going to have to."

At that time, Sessoms said the anchor tenant and the lease agreement will be revealed.

If the Kings are named as that team, I'd love to hear Joe Maloof's explanation and I won't settle for, "No comment."

Ailene Voisin: So what's different a year later? A lot of people still suspect your plan is to spend next season in Sacramento and then file for relocation in March.

Joe Maloof: That's not true, that's not true. I swear that is not going to happen. I don't care what rumors are out there. It's our team. We're not selling, and we're not leaving. Our identity is the Sacramento Kings. That's how we're known.

The Kings vs Knicks game costs more than say the Kings vs Bobcats. At any rate the prices have gone up way too much since the Maloofs took over the team. They basically priced out the fans that were around during the early years.

Tonight's crowd was great. Nearly sold out with a legitimate 16,000 plus.

There are approximately 2,800 seats left for the Kings vs Celtics game tomorrow afternoon. How do I know? I counted each seat available on Ticketmaster.

Hilarity will ensue. I hope you've got the "we're committed to Sacramento" quote mill queued up. We're going to need it. We might need another server just to hold all of it, though.

Well, I don't think I will be surprised, if the Kings are named as their anchor tenant. I don't see a new arena there as looking realistic right now though. VB is nuts if they pony up 92% of the cost. We can't compete with that kind of deal, but I don't think its going to work there either. VB is supposed to include "moving costs" which doesn't even take into account what is owed to Sacramento. Most people back there don't even seem aware the team owes this city money.
