Lakers @ Jazz

4cwebb

Starter
Kobe going off on the Jazz (3/22)

At the end of the 3rd: 39 points on 14 - 17 shooting from the floor (9-11 from three), and he's only 2 of 5 from the free throw line.

Lakers up 6 to start the 4th.

Lakers leading 88-82 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Kobe with 9 3-pointers so far. He could very well break the NBA record for most 3-pointers made in a game (12 3-pointers). He shares that record with Donyell Marshall.

Celt - They posted at the same time.

;)

Kobe may have gone off but the Lakers lost and are out of the playoffs.

Yeah! Once again, Kobe shines, but the team loses. What the heck good is that?

Out of playoffs? Eliminated already?

Hmm Ok... yeah Kobe leading his team to.................. the lottery.
EDIT: I don't think the Lakers are technicaly out of play off contention. They should have about 15 games left and are 4 games out or 8th place... but I don't remember the last time a Lakers team ever lost 6 in row... probably have to go back to Dell Haris for that.

Aside from Jumaine Jones, you got to admit the rest of the team is pretty bad. That was one ballsy performance though. How many guys in the league can you say would even have the confidence to take the shots he did?

You seem angry. So anyone that respects Kobe's game you have hostility towards? He's better than anyone on the Kings. Chris Webber? Bawahaha, Webber can't even make a lay up let alone figure out how many time outs are left.

I am angry today so I will respond.

Kobe is a great INDIVIDUAL player. He doesn't make players around him better because he wants to be the star on every shot. CWebb while not better and with the Kings made the team better around him.

SHAQ makes his team better around him. Kobe is about Kobe, not about team. Its a miracle they won any rings with his selfish play. Luckily they also had shaq, otherwise Kobe would have 0 rings right now. Kobe is a young Iverson.Great individual talent but horrible team player.

Funny thing is before Shaq was traded, all the Kings fans hated him. Now you use him as en example to what Kobe isn't. Sounds hypocritical to me. He used to be the enemy, now you use as an ally for your arguments against Kobe. If you weren't down with Shaq before, I don't understand how you can jump on the bandwagon now. A little bit too late. This is not Kobe's best year but you can't ignore how many clutch shots he made before. Bottom line is winning is everything. Kobe has three rings and Chris Webber is branded a choker. The two are not even in the same category.

I never said I like Shaq? Were did I say that in my post?

I never said CWEBB was a better individual player then Kobe infact I think I said the opposite.

This is a team game. Lets see, my bet is that Shaq gets a ring before Kobe. Shaq is of course like 200 years older then Kobe. I also think that without another superstar Kobe will see about 0 more rings in his future.

well i don't have the SAME level of hatred that i once did for the Lakers...i still am no fan of "The Bean" (as Garg calls him)...the rest of the players are young and don't know any better...and to tell you the truth i almost feel bad for them...eek! How many games did they win on their road trip...1? to the Mavs? to start it all off since then losses all over the places...

I never said you did like Shaq. I said you hated him before and now you use him as an ally just to prove your case against Kobe. He's a team player, blah blah blah. I never heard that before from Kings fans. Never thought I would see the day Kings fan's jump on the Shaq bandwagon. Only after the fact now though. Totally hypocritical if you ask me. Comparing Chris Webber, a player that has never won anything to Kobe is almost dillusional.

actually I never said I hated Shaq, nor Kobe. I don't "HATE" many players I definately put Kobe down there on the list but I have always liked Shaq (except when he played us). I think that part is just a character thing. Shaq has that personality away from the court that people like. I am not sticking up for him in the way you are saying and I am not on his wagon.

I could care less if he wins are not, I was comparing Kobe to Shaq and saying how I think Shaq is a better team player. I think Kobe is more like "the answer" in styles of play and how they help their team.

Lakers need a point guard in the worst way. You cannot have Chucky starting for a team that is trying to make the playoffs. Granted Kobe has to show more confidence in the other players but how do you do that if they royally suck. It's a vicious circle.

Not only are you nitpicking, but in doing so, you're missing the point.

Kobe will always be the best player on his team. And that's good; he's a great talent. But it takes more than talent to win. Kobe does have the intangibles that are needed to lead a team to victory, but he needs to learn to trust his teammates. It's a vicious circle, because there aren't too many people on that team earning anyone's trust. Hell, if I'm 14-17, you'd better believe that I'm going to keep shooting it.

But beyond all that, the point was that Shaq knows how to make the players around him better. No one said anything about how great a person Shaq is and how he's the blueprint for a franchise player and so on. The comment was that Shaq has displayed leadership traits that Kobe has yet to display - at least not enough to keep his team winning. Can't knock his game tonight, but there was probably a way that he could have helped him teammates step up and contribute a bit more, but he seems to be too stuck in the "I have to do it all myself" mode. And it's a crying shame, because he's one of the absolute best players in the NBA.

Just one clarification to your sentence. I think it should read" Since Shaq is no longer a Laker,..."

Hard to phathom a Kings fan making this distinction noting their inability to contain either of them in the playoff series.

True, true. They need a lot of things in the worst way including a head coach and a defense-minded 4. Once again, the blame from non-Laker fans falls unfairly on Bean's shoulders (yawn) as if this is a team that should be winning games right now, esp with Odom injured.

The Lakers' problem have absolutely nothing to do with the offense, and everything to do with inside toughness and lack of perimeter defense, especially at the 1.

Hard to fathom a "Bean" fan sticking up for his boy instead of looking objectively at the situation.

I'm not going to point the finger at Kobe right now. It's clear that he can't do it all alone with this roster (without Odom, it's just Kobe and the 11 "dwarfs", so to speak), and there's really no shame in that. He had a ridiculous first three quarters against the Jazz, though, which is why I opened the thread...more out of respect for the game was having (even though his game fell off the cliff during the 4th), which was just insane.

Query, though, what's the Lakers' W/L without Lamar vs. the W/L without Kobe? Just curious more than anything.

Give me something objective to consider. Truth is, look at what he's working with. Look at what this team has gone thru. I know you would be willing to admit that certain factors have heavily contributed to Sac's 12-14 record since Feb 1st, right? I know you wouldn't be pinning all of their losses solely on Peja/Bibby's shoulders, right?

I like this better.

Lamar's only been out for 1 game, 0-1. Without Kobe, 6-8.

Kobe has three rings

Derek Fisher has three rings too.

At least he was a team first guy.

Webber may be branded "choker" by ignoramuses, but Kobe's got a lot of cleaning up to do to remove the giant "Does Not Get It" brand from his own forehead.
