Kreidler: Don't give Kings the title...yet

No, I think what Brick is alluding to is that considering that the Maloofs and fans alike were calling for more defense this offseason, they went complete opposite direction by the Wells and SAR additions. Rick might be the scapegoat if we lose in similar fashion to previous years where the team is great offensively but they don't play a lick of defense and don't go very far in the post seaason.
I don't think Wells and SAR are really all that "opposite" from the previous direction. Wells does play better defense than Cat did (arguably) but SAR isn't exactly a defensive specialist. He does play offense with his back to the basket quite nicely which is slightly new. Defensively I don't think the direction is all that different. I could be wrong but I really don't see this team playing all that much more defense than any previous kings teams.

Would it not then be logical not to expect too much defense from this team. I mean they will be exciting and everything and probably fill it up pretty nicely, but why would anyone with any basketball sense expect this team to noticably improve its defense?
Logic won't stop people from ranting about defense all year;)

This kings team hasn't even played one game , so it is hard to assume anything about them . The only thing i can assume is that we will put up a LOT of pts ,as far as defense only time will tell .

How about a billboard that says Joe or Gavin will give him Manacures if Mike stops his man and maybe a free pedicure for every steal. :D

the last billboard didn't work out so well, so maybe not.;)

hmm...didn't work out too bad -- he came back. And then we spent the next couple of years being maybe the best team in the league.

Mike is ranked 10th in steals. I don't think he needs motivation.

That's why I didn't comment on that originally:). But that brings up a curious point doesn't it? Mike has the athletic (at least speed and quickness) ability to make the play, and shows decent instincts for ball disruption and stripping his man, but for the life of him can't find to ability to stay in front if his man. He will however sprint from one side of the court to the other for "help defense" all night long. I love Mike, I really do...but maybe the added motivation (he really does seem to hate those fingernails!) would put him over the edge and actually bring us closer to "giving the Kings the title" .

If anyone other than Chad Ford (personally I think he's about as reliable as the cars that carry his name) was actually ready to do that anyway from only TDOS. I think I'll start calling him Chad Pinto.

Mike is NOT a good athlete for a PG. Below average actually. He gets where he wants to go on offense because if saavy and ball handling, but defensively he's a step slower than most PGs, and several steps slower than the jets. That's not an excuse for his total lack of defense at times -- there is a significant component of lack of effort and focus there. But even best case scenario, he's a step slow physically and will always have to contend with that.

I don't know any players that can stop many PG's in the league. One thing I noticed last year was that Bibby would lead his man to the baseline, when the player would go by, there was no one there to take the charge, defend, etc. If this team finds out where to be and when to rotate, (the only player last season that seemed like he even knew how to was Kenny), they should be improved.

Well to be fair in the very limited min that Kevin Played last season he showed a remarkable ablity to gain position and take charges.

I've seen Bibby get burned at times, either off the dribble or by a pick n' roll, but im not buying your total lack of defense. Show me some video clips of where he's doing nothing.

How could he show you clips of Mike doing nothing? If he's doing nothing, odds are really high the camera wouldn't be on him...

;)

Seriously, Bricklayer said "total lack of defense AT TIMES" - I think those last two words are integral and correct.

Just my three cents...
