Report: Lakers Had Agreed To Kobe Bryant Trade

Deal With Pistons Would Have Sent 3 Players Plus First-Round Pick To L.A.

LOS ANGELES (CBS) ― Radio station 1270 AM in Detroit is reporting that earlier this week the Lakers and Pistons came to an agreement to trade Bryant to the Pistons.

However, Bryant used his no-trade clause to veto the trade.

Detroit would have sent Tayshaun Prince, Rip Hamilton, Amir Johnson and a first-round pick to the Lakers.

The report claims the deal was completed late Tuesday night.
 
Yeah, I saw that. Which if true...how big of an *** is Kobe anyway? How much better of a setup would he want? Detroit with Chauncey and Sheed still in town? I don't think they win a title, and that trio isn't as good as Boston's, but he is the **** who said he wanted out to go compete.

And of course the Lakers look like idiots again. Get back two not terribly young sub-All Star level players, and one kid. And instead end up looking like Kobe's just trying to screw them at this point.


Which let me repeat one more time is why he is extraordinarily lucky I do not own the Lakers.
 
I would describe Kobe's behavior as closer to that of a ***** or a ******-***, but the point is, he's obnoxious, and slowly getting older in LA.

Nope. What Webber had was a trade restriction clause, which meant that if he was traded a certain percentage of the money remaining due him would have to be paid up front. And, as a matter of fact, he WAIVED that provision when he was traded.
 
couldn't happen o the nicer guy and nicer franchise. I hope that he stays a Laker for life and that he plays for a long time

Thanks for the clarification. I knew whatever clause he had, he waived it. I just wasn't sure what exactly it was.
 
Once again I am reminded of the scene in Animal House when Otter returns from the road trip having destroyed the car Flounder lent him and he say' " You (messed) up you trusted me!"
 
Why not sit down with Kobe and pencil out situations that he would accept. It seems rather pointless to negotiate a deal without the only person who can single handedly squash it......

Well of course that would make sense but then again so does simply putting the ball in his court and telling him and his agent to set up deals get tenative approval from the trading partner and then let Mitch either aprove or void the deal. In short why should I as a GM work to move the little puke just to have him void the deal?

In the end I'd love to see Dr. Buss and the Laker organization man up for the good of the game and just give the Kobelet an indefinant suspension.
 
The Lakers appear to be playing fairly well -- although still not a team that can win at all, but I wonder if Kobe is beginning to think that perhaps things could still work out in LA.

Every team of the post-Shaq era has started off fairly decently and then swooned later on. And they tend to lose to some of the league's worst teams. This seems to be an institutional pattern though. They did this in 2002, even, started 16-1, finished 42-23.

I doubt Kobe thinks this team can get out of the West, that's the problem. What he should begin to think is, "God, did I get Chicago all wrong?" (They play Chicago tomorrow, btw).
 
After LA, can't see Kobe "wanting" to live in Detroit. Phoenix, Chicago and New York, but not a rusting hulk like Detroit.
